WOYWW: A Winner & A Sewing Nook!

Howdy folks and happy Wednesday. Over the weekend I promised that If I didn’t clean up my craft studio that I was going to post photos on What’s on Your Workdesk Wednesday (I also invite company over when my house is trashed because that lights a fire under me to clean it up!) but luckily it did not come to that, in fact I tore the room apart to make room for a sewing area:

Isn’t that cute! My sister gave me the sewing table, she found it at an antiques shop, it was the iron base of an old treadle machine with a thick board on top. I have wanted it in my craft-room since I received it a year ago but I just could not figure out how to fit it in without getting rid of anything else of course 😉 But I documented the process (so technically you DO get to see the messy room LOL) in 3 steps and I am thrilled with how it came out. Here is my 4 minute renovation video:

And yes, I made the poncho! OK so I know a lot of you are tuning in to see who won the stamp set from About Art Accents, well… drum-roll please…..

Congratulations! I will email you for your contact details so check your spam folder if you have not received an email from me yet;) Thanks to all who played along.  After making that first card last week I decided to make a dozen and use one of my favorite About Art Accents stamp sets: Flowered ATC Trading Cards, it is great for those who like to color with alcohol ink markers because the detail is amazing, and it is on sale for $16.99 (regular $29) each stamp is 2.25″x3.25″, that’s a lot of rubber!

I plan to sell them at the spring fair I am vending at next month. I thought they would be great for Mother’s Day but I did not want to limit my customer base so in each card package I include a Happy Birthday  Thanks and Happy Mother’s Day sentiment and 2 foam squares for sticking them on. That way there are 3 occasions the cards can be used for. I am selling them for $3.

I think they look nice and tidy in their clear envelopes!

Well that’s all for today. I hope I inspired you to cram more junk…er, I mean look for alternative storage space in your craft space! If you want to check out more crafty desks visit Julia’s blog and til next time happy crafting!

  1. I’m trying the cards today. I hope I can figure it out. If not its back to the video. I need a sewing area also . Have one in my big bedroom downstairs but not a good place. Love your craft room, hope I can get mine done this summer.

  2. Before I answer the phone…I take a moment and smile, knowing that I’ll sound happy. What do you do before you start filming? You sound so perky and excited. My sewing machine remains in a closet.

  3. Good for you getting the table into the space, nothing like having one on hand when needed without having to unpack and set up all the time. Love the ATC’s and holders.

    Happy Easter and WOYWW

    1. Hi Sharon, I buy FDA food safe clear bags in 6″x9″ size and they fit most of my handmade cards ans also they can be used for food ite,s. I also get the 3″x5″ and the 7″x7″ size. They come in packs of 1000 so I go in on an order with my stamping friends. You can get them at Papermart or Uline.

  5. I love your sewing nook, I have that old Singer sewing machine left to me by my mom…it would still work if I got a new belt for it. She kept fixing the original and taught me to sew on it. I am sort of displaying it in the great room in a corner. I have 3 machines in the craft studio.

I love those flowered cards, since I don’t work with alcohol ink markers, and I love my colored pencils and using Gamsol, I wonder if that would work? I also as you know love my Tombow Markers…would they work on those too.

Can you tell me where to get the clear envelopes, I am using plastic bags! Clear envelopes make a much nicer presentation…not that I sell much!
    Thanks for the info.

  6. Love it. Old sewing machines, like old typewriters, appeal to me, even if they are harder to use. So I guess a new machine on an old table is the best of both worlds 🙂

  8. I know why your so full of energy Lindsay….it’s all about coffee. I say this with the biggest smile on my face because I’m with you girl! I have been following you faithfully for some time now and I just adore you. Can I ask where you get the ribbon that you used on the 12 ATC card sets….I don’t see that type of ribbon in the Papermart catalog.

    1. Hi Tony, the crinkly ribbon is called seam binding. Papermart does not carry it. I bought mine in 100 yard spools from sewtrue.com for $10 and some I got on clearence for $2. It comes smooth but if you wet it and scrunch it up it will crinkled. I often use white and dye it to match my project. It’s great stuff!

  11. LOVE your new sewing nook, Lindsay! How cool is that? I am planning a sewing area when I have my new ARTHaven, so I can have my sewing machine out all the time. If things are out, you use them. If you have them hidden away, you don’t!

Your seed cards are just gorgeous – so pretty, and I love the colours too. Great work!
