A Freebie! 50% Off Sale & a Quick Tip Video!

How’s that for a headline? It is true, I am having a 50% off sale now through Saturday at Lindsay’s Stamp Stuff. I have some cool new kits to check out as well as a free die cutting file so you can make this swing card! On this card I also used the Pretty Posies Digital Stamp Set on sale for $2!

If you want to see this interactive card in action then check out the video, there are some tips there too including how to use a regular paper punch to make seamless borders. I own very few punches but I still make them earn their keep!

Here is what the card looks like closed:

And all the way flat:

It is such a simple design but it holds a fun surprise for the recipient! The Free SVG kit also contains a printable file, I shared that back on this post along with a video on how to make it by hand with a paper cutter.

That’s all for today! Remember to visit Lindsay’s Stamp Stuff to snag your freebie and to save 50% on everything else! Thanks for stopping by and til next time happy crafting!

Try something new: a gatefold easel card! {video tutorial}

Happy Monday folks! I saw a really pretty card on a blog the other day (I’m so sorry I cannot find the card I saw, I went hunting for it again, so if you recently posted a pretty gatefold easel card on your blog leave me a link so I can check it out!)  I couldn’t get the lovely card off my mind so I decided to try to make one and came up with this. I used Lily digistamp from my Pretty Posies Digital stamp set for the center panel. By the way, Everything at Lindsay’s Stamp Stuff is 36% off through Wednesday! It’s my birthday sale! Anywhoo…on to the card:

Here it is closed:

Remove the band and open the flaps:

And pop up the easel, fun huh?

Do you know what else? It is really easy to make too, check out my video:

Here is the cutting, scoring template:

I tried to find out who originally came up with this idea and saw many more lovely cards (not the one that first inspired me tho!) so if you know who came up with this idea please leave a comment so I can credit them:) Thanks for stopping by and til next time happy crafting!

PS don’t forget to check out the Birthday sale at Lindsay’s Stamp Stuff, 36% off everything in the shop…can you guess how old I am turning LOL?!?

Get Out Your Watercolors!

Let’s Paint! I love watercolors, the splashy vibrant color and the immediacy of creation is what hooks me every time. Unlike oils or acrylics they are always ready to go when I am! This painting is done in watercolor but I applied the paint in different ways: painting, spraying, stenciling and spattering. I love the texture and interest these different methods give the piece.

Cyclamen Watercolor Painting Copyright 2012 Lindsay Weirich

I really believe that anyone can paint, you just need to give it a go! If you don’t think you can draw well enough you can print out a digital stamp (there are lots of great ones that would be perfect for watercoloring in my Fancy Flowers set) and transfer it to your painting surface with graphite paper. I almost always draw it on a scrap first and then trace it so I know I have the drawing again if I mess up or if I want the pattern to use in a class. I mixed watercolor in a spray bottle with water to use with my stencils and I also sponged on some thicker watercolor. Normally I do not use white watercolor but in this case I did to mimic the velvety soft petals in the flowers and for the polka-dot stencil. As a final touch I added some stamping. No rules, just paint! Just remember, it’s only a piece of paper!

50% off at Lindsay’s, a freebie and new Christmas products!

Howdy folks, I know it is a bit too early to start thinking about Christmas…well, unless, that is, you are selling at craft fairs and in that case you need cute packaging ASAP! And today is the perfect time to grab your needed supplies because it is 50% off today at Lindsay’s Stamp Stuff! I was asked by a crafty customer to come up with some printables for her to sell her movie gift kits at craft fairs so I came up with the Holiday Bazzar set. How cute would it be to wrap a few bags of microwaved popcorn, soda bottles and candies and package them in one of those large plastic popcorn boxes from the dollar store, you could throw in a DVD too for a super cute and inexpensive gift!

If you wanted to really spread some holiday cheer you could leave the baskets on a friends doorstep with a note saying “You’ve Been Elfed!”, the 5″x7″ notes in the kit would be perfect for that! You can also used the cards for invitations to a cookie swap and recipe cards!

If you want a cute gag gift for the folks in the office how about some reindeer poop? I found this funny poem online that you can print and slip in the bag:

I woke up with such a scare when I heard Santa call…
“Now dash away, dash away, dash away all!”
I ran to the lawn, and in the snowy white drifts,
those nasty reindeer had left “little gifts”.

I got an old shovel and started to scoop
Neat little piles of “reindeer poop.”
but to throw them away seemed such a waste,
So I saved them, thinking you might like a taste!

As I finished my task, which took quite a while,
Old Santa passed by and he sheepishly smiled.
And I heard him exclaim as he rose to the sky~~~
“Well, they’re not potty trained, but at least they can fly!”

For the kids you might like to send them to school with “Snowman Soup” for their teacher and classmates! I found a poem for this too:

Snowman Soup
Was told you’ve been real good this year.
Always glad to hear it!
With freezing weather drawing near,
You’ll need to warm the spirit.
here’s a little Snowman Soup
Complete with stirring stick.
Add hot water, sip it slow.
It’s sure to do the trick!

Isn’t that cute! Both of the poems I found at The Organized Home.com.

Here is a look at the new printable kit and some other Christmas products you might enjoy, remember they are 50% off today only and two of the below products are freebies!

Spooky Stair-Step card and 30% Off Today!

Happy Labor Day folks! I am recovering from taking my kids to the fair yesterday, they had a blast and as much as I really don’t like the fair I managed to have a good time too. Plus I had my yearly indulgence of “King & Queen” french fries…there is something about a fair that makes it OK to eat horrifying garbage 😉 Darn, though those are the best fries LOL! Since it is a holiday in the states I want to celebrate by offering you 30% off everything at Lindsay’s Stamp Stuff. I designed a new digistamp set called Halloween doodles and here is a card I made with it today:

This is a stair step card and it is very easy. I remembered that I bought a DCWV Halloween mat stack last year and all of the papers were 6.5″x4.5″ and made of very sturdy patterned cardstock. I think for making cards these smaller pads are the way to go because the patterns are scaled smaller which tends to look nicer than the large-scale prints on a card. Also you have less waste afterward. Normally I just used scraps leftover for scrapbooking to make cards with because I hate to cut into a 12×12 sheet of paper just for a card so with the mat stacks there is no waste (and no guilt!) I even trimmed the border strip and the sentiment from paper in the stack and saved the scraps for another card…thrifty! I colored the digistamp image with my trusty Promarkers.

As you can see from the side-view of the card it is 3-D. The nice thing about this is that it will fold flat for mailing. Here is how I made the card:

  1. Cut a piece of cardstock 6.5″ wide (because my matstack background was 6.5″ wide, you can adjust the width to fit the size you want to make) by 11″ long.
  2. Score the card at 2.5″, 5″, 6.5″, 8″, 9″.5 and accordion fold on the score lines. Compare that to the above photo.
  3. Adhere your backing paper to the second fold panel as shown.Embellish the other fronts of the folded panel as desired.

Notice that my background panel sticks up over the folded panel, if you paper is too lightweight just back it with cardstock. It is very easy to make and adds a punch to the design!

This card qualifies for the following challenges: Crafting When We Can, One Stitch At A TimeClearly Inspired, Stampin For The Weekend  and the color inspiration from Sketchy Colors.

Have a safe Labor Day, Remember 30% off everything at LSS til midnight! Til next time happy crafting!

I’m “batty” & 40% off!

Silence…my kids are back to school today, time for a second cup of coffee and some peace and quiet, ahhhhh. Rather than have another back to school project for you today I thought I’d fast forward a bit and show you a Halloween card I made with my new digital stamp set Halloween Doodles, that set is 40% off along with EVERYTHING at Lindsay’s Stamp Stuff today {August 31st} only!

I had a nice time making this card. I like to listen to audio books while I craft and I was listing to a very creepy one (Cujo by Stephen King) while I was making this. First I colored the bat with 4 shades of purple promarkers then I masked the bat and moon and colored the sky with inkpads.

TIP: When you wan to mask a digistamp simply stick a post-it note over the image (you will be able to see through it enough) and trace the outline, then cut out the shape and stick it over the image you want to mask, easy!

I punched a 1.5″ circle (of post-it note) to mask the moon and dabbed away with several shades of blue ink pad over the masked bat and moon. then I used a foam dauber to swirl in some clouds. Finally I finished it off with white colored pencil to give the clouds more shape and the moon more definition.

So, if you liked that be sure to grab the Halloween Doodles set or anything else that strikes your fancy at Lindsay’s Stamp Stuff for 40% off today! Here are some products you might enjoy:

A few “toots” and a CASE & Freebies!

Well, my mailbox has been busy this week! I was asked (along with fellow MyGrafico designers Cheri Wenger and Blackleaf Studios) to design a custom digital stamp for Paper Crafts Magazine’s special publication Stamp It! Cards. You can download all of our designs here. Gotta love free right?

I really enjoyed this issue of Stamp It! Cards, infact I found many ideas I wanted to try. Here is a card I CASE’d (CASE=copy and steal everything), the original card is on page 89 of Stamp It! Cards and it was by Agniesza Malyszek, her’s turned out much prettier than mine but I still like it 😉

To make the card I stamped the butterflies in Versafine black and heat embossed them with clear then loosely splashed watercolor over them. Honestly I got a little TOO loose with the watercolor and I’m not sure what I was thinking with the flourescent coral sentiment block but, hey, it was fun!

Tuesday I got the September issue of Scrap & Stamp Arts and I just about fell over to see my button cards on the COVER:

 SSA September 2011

BTW you can still get the July Issue of SSA with my marker review spreadsheet. Honestly, it is more than you ever wanted to know about Alcohol & Watercolor markers and extra ways to use them.

 SSA July 2011

OK I think I just dislocated my shoulder patting myself on the back 😛 til next time happy crafting!
