A Saint Patty’s Craft for Kids!

Hi friends! Here is a colorful decoration that you can make with your kids this Saint Patrick’s Day. It is a great way to use up leftover supplies too. I used many odds and ends I had lying around as well as useful staple craft supplies from Papermart.

This project will take about 30 minutes to complete. Take your time and have fun! Watch the video to see how it is made.

You will need:

  • 8″x8″ cardboard or matboard
  • Burlap
  • Pipe Cleaner
  • Craft foam/Fun Foam OR construction paper
  • Paper Straws
  • Crepe paper
  • Something to color with like chalk, crayons or paint
  • Quick grab glue such as low temp hot glue, Thick & Tacky glue, Beacon 3-in-1 or Helmar 450. (You need a glue that grabs quick!)
  • Paper ribbon
  • Wire
  • Beads
  • Scissors and wire cutters

And anything you want to add! This is a great project to use up leftovers you have so customize it to fit your supplies!

Directions
1. Cover a square of cardboard with burlap and glue the ends to the back.
2. Color or paint the front if desired.
3. Cut the foam into a pot, cloud and shamrock. You can use a die cut machine, if you have one, or scissors.
4. Loosely arrange the elements on the canvas and glue the items down when you are happy with them.
5. Make a frame by gluing paper straws to the edge of the picture but before you glue the top straw down insert a ribbon for hanging.

Please refer to the video for more instructions! Big thanks to Papermart for sponsoring today’s Video! Happy crafting!

  1. Lindsay help please!!!!!

I’m so confused, and the more research I do, the worse it gets. I bought a box of “classic chalks” the kind that has a circle cut in half for two values of a color and they come with three tiny pompoms for each color and what looks like a roach clip. Total 12 circles in the box.

OK, so here’s my confusion…. Is it when you use versamark and dab on chalk do you have to spray it with hair spray. And if you use water with it , you don’t spray??? But if it’s used with a blender pen. What then,??

And should I get hot pressed water color paper, if so what weight? Cause I heard you talk about weight. Or can I use a heavy weight cardboard?

You are so good with this stuff I believe you could help me. Thank you very, very much.

    1. The versamark will lock in the chalk but you can spray if you like, same goes with a blender pen, it contains glycerin just like the pad does;) Water dissolved the chalk so it will seep in the paper, you might want to spray that buy dry chalk on dry paper will probably need a spray;)

  2. Lindsay, just want to put another flea in your ear. In your last Ask a Crafter, you mentioned that you would soon do a vid on artists media/mediums (glossy, gel, heavy body, matte, acrylic, etc)…. the different types and how to use them. I’ve been panting for such a vid for quite a while cause I find the different types VERY confusing. The “art” channels talk about them a bit, but always from the perspective of fine art. They don’t discuss them from how crafters think of/use them. Pretty please!!! (grin)
