Howdy folks! I thought you might be tired of the non zooming out of focus videos I have been sharing since I dropped my good video camera so yesterday I bit the bullet and bought a new one. I agonized over the choices, decided on one, but was still hesitant to buy thinking maybe shooting video on my daughters point & shoot cyber-shot was OK, and it was OK but not really what I wanted (plus, hello, I certainly did not want to drop HER camera!) So I decided to go with a Samsung H90, it had everything I wanted (and stuff I didn’t know I wanted until I read about it LOL!) and it was what I wanted to spend (about $150) and I am pleased as punch with it. Here is a still picture I took with it:
And here is the video, testing out the camera and showing how to do watercolor washes, 2 birds, one stone;)
I didn’t edit the video, I uploaded it straight to you tube using the intelli-studio software that came with it. You can edit with the software too but I wanted to see what the raw video looked like, good enough for me! BTW I took it to my sons Little League game last night (he pitched the entire game-a shutout!!!) and I could zoom right in and get a great shot of him pitching, the camera has 52x optical zoom! Not bad for $136 including sales tax! The camera also happens to be on sale until tomorrow at Best Buy and my store had a promotion that let me save $20 more so I am one happy videographer! Great camera for the price! I may have to invest in one. I currently use my expensive regular camera for making videos but I find it cumbersome. This is a great alternative. Thanks for the review and the class. š

Camera was great, specially when you could zoom in close. I haven’t done water colors for a long time. I don’t want to sound stupid,but, was that water color paper? You didn’t say and it looks really different from my wc paper. Mine is really rough and full of ridges and stuff. I look forward to more of your videos.

This paper is actually a student grade paper by Fabriano, it is 75 sheet pad of 90lb paper 25% cotton and much smoother even though it is Cold Press, it is my practice and stamping watercolor paper. I also let the kids use it., Here are product link:

Love the results you’re getting with your new camera, Lindsay! It sounds as if you got it for a good price, too. Your watercolour washes are beautiful. I’ve never seen the controlled wash done before, and the result is very smooth. I’ve just got some pan pastels and am looking foward to creating dry washes with these!!
I have a Panasonic video camera and while it records beautifully, transferring stuff to the computer is a complete nightmare. On my large laptop which I use for all my art and graphics stuff, as soon as I plug the camera in, I get a Blue Screen of Death which takes some time to sort out. I can transfer video to the small laptop but it keeps cutting out, so my clips have to be edited together which is a real pain. I have tried different cables, to no avail. I often just use the video feature on my digital camera but the sound isn’t as good, and also the video comes out a bit over-exposed. Wish I could get these problems sorted!!

Great technique. I think I want that camera. What type of tripod are you using so that you can record over your workspace? I’d like to know how easy/complicated it is to edit a video from the camera. Looking forward to seeing more as always.

it is an old video camera tripod by Vivatar I bout at walmart in the 90s for $20. The head tips down at 90 degrees for desk filming. Make sure you get a rugged tripod, back when I bought this the videocameras were huge and heavy so it is plenty rugged and make sure the head of the tripod will tilt down.

I’ve looked on best buy’s site and can’t find that camera. Do u have a link? I really want to replace mine with one with a pause feature! Love your videos…especially ask a crafter…and I do stay to the end. Great information!
