  1. my word–appreciation. BTY–watercolors by a musician. They are so interesting–his name is Rob Arthur and he is truly an artist with his music and art which was an afterthought because he wanted a certain painting for a poster, could not get it so did it himself. Can just google.

  2. Lindsay, uplift is the perfect word for you! You have always said, “A rising tide lifts all boats.” This is my fifth year to choose ‘One Little Word.’ It has made such a difference in my life each year. I’m really excited about my OLW for 2016 ~ blossom. I can already tell that I am blossoming by the choices I am making. It’s fun to hear everyone’s words for the year! ♡

  7. Thank you for bringing this idea forward. My word is going to be “listen.” I love to tell stories but I think this year I need to just listen.

  8. I lost my husband in October, so I am thinking of words like strength, courage, healing, faith, hope, peace. Not sure if I can choose one for the whole year. Might have to pick one a month to work on.

  11. Hi LIndsay, The word “Uplifting” has been used for several years in UK, to mean “Recycle”. (The word recycle is fine to me !).
For the last couple of years I have lived by 2 words, “Hands Full”. when ever I move about the villa, I pick up items & return them to where they should be. ie. cardigan from back of chair to wardrobe, Glass from bedside cabinet to kitchen, books to shelf etc. It’s amazing how clutter free I have become & less housework I seem to have to do !!
I encourge my husband in this too. (It’s slowly getting through to him !) Thanks for sharing your blog, really enjoy it. Best wishes from Mary in sunny Spain.

  13. thank you for your “uplifting” sharing. I chose my word the other day at a ladies meeting at church, Our speaker also challenged us to choose a word for the year-I chose “diligence”. I intend to have more diligence in being more productive in completing and promoting my designs instead of wasting so much time. Your newsletters and videos are very helpful.

  15. This is a great idea, Ii have never done it. I just retired 4 days ago and have big ideas of things to do, but I don’t start because I think I won’t have the energy to complete. So I choose STAMINA. I want to have the stamina to start and finish. I just did it with the tree. My helper decided to take a nap, so I did it myself. It seemed daunting, but it was not that bad.

  16. Thank you for this post. As always you are an inspiration. My word for 2016 has to be peace. Peace in my personal relationships and for our society and the world. I think you have helped me to gain inner peace through stretching myself to try to watercolor and make cards. So many of my friends have been lifted up by my cards and a quick note and that helps them to have more peace in their lives. God bless you for reaching out and uplifting so many of us.

    1. You are so right! I also think being peaceful to ourselves is important too, which Lindsay is always telling us to do. One of the first things I heard her say was: “Just have fun, don’t try to be perfect!”. In fact, ever since I found out the less effort I make – the better the results!

  17. Well, Lindsey I like your word Uplift. . . it’s a good word and you certainly have uplifted me many times. I’m having a problem coming up with just “One Word” LOL There are so many words that apply to me and to my life at this time and I need to focus on them but know I can’t b/c it’s only One little word, Uplift is a very uplifting word and I may just use it. I had no problem with my goal – none whatsoever-super easy for me My Goal:. I will take some time (a few mins each day) to play around with all my watercolor products and try this or that and maybe produce a fine project and if not I’ll have had some fun. My heart goes out to Jan and her family you’ve been added to my prayer list.

  18. My word is FOCUS!!!!!!

“Essence of Lindsay” should be bottled! You are a treasure. Right now in New Zealand roaring wood fires and hand knitted woolies are the furthest thing from my mind. It’s all tennis, cricket, swimming and staying cool.

  19. Lindsey, my word is Faith, my mother went to her cancer dr last week for her 6month check up and they found a spot on her only lung. Right now its too small to test so they will wait 4 months to see if it grows or what. So my word has to be Faith. Faith in god that he heals my mom and shes still cancer free. Also my husband had a heart attack 2 years ago at the age of 45. And recently hes been having some problems with his heart. SO I have to have Faith that god will keep him healthy and here with me. So yep, my word is FAITH. (Its also my grand daughters Name and her birthday is Dec 25th.)

  21. I went a little weird this year. My word is Joie de Vivre. To go with that, I skipped making goals and opted for a family bucketlist. It’s just places we want to go and things we want to do. We made a big “picture” to write our lists so we can see them as well as remember to support those plans.

  22. My word improvement, of oneself, mentally, physically, spirituality. Allow myself to have fun. I lost my husband two years ago, and have lost myself. I want to become a new and IMPROVED ME this year.

  24. It’s funny that I came across this video on You Tube just this year I came across a devotional about One Word…to find out it is also a book One Word by John Gordon and other…..well I’ve kept trying to find a word that was witty, or sounded intelligent or even a cute or pretty word and all I could hear my word to be is FOCUS. I need focus on my family needs , focus for my small business (that is more like a expensive hobby). Focus on my church ministries and what God would have me place all my time, energy an effort into. Thank you for this post and other ones that are helpful and uplifting! http://getoneword.com/about-the-book/ Is the link to the book I mentioned. Have a great 2016 an happy crafting

  25. That was awesome! My word for 2016 is “recreate” pronounced both ways. With a short e it tells me to get recreation – just take the time! – and with a long e, I hope I can revive my creativity.
