Hi friends! I will be working my way through comments and emails as soon as I can but I just wanted to pop in and let you know what I am working on for projects this week and show you what I painted on vacation. Also if you are interested in tutorials for any of the paintings I showed you today just let me know in the comments. I can record watercolor fairly efficiently (hence all the watercolor tutorials during my busy summer LOL!) and I am happy to if you want to see them:)
Here is a casual, weekly wrap up and preview of what’s to come vlog:)
Video!
Stuff I mentioned in the video:
Cotman watercolors
Zen 1/2″ (13mm) filbert watercolor brush with scraper handle
DIY watercolor blocks (tutorial here)
For those of you sick of watercolor tutorials I have some fun projects coming up this week:
- Fashion: Hand-dyed/stamped/painted scarf
- DIY scratch board (good one for the kids!)
- Back to School Apple for Teacher papercraft
- Under the Sea Party Invitations
- Friday we will have the 12:30pm ET live stream and it will be a watercolor:)
Here are still shots of the painting I shared in the video:)
During the video I mentioned a couple craftsy classes that you might like both by Anna Mason. I enrolled in her fruit class thinking it might help me with my strawberries:)
Fantastic Fruit-Texture & Form
Another nice one from Anna Mason is Realistic Watercolors Step by Step (it is mainly botanical flowers and a good place to start:)
Thanks for being awesome and til next time happy crafting!
I love them all! I can never get enough watercolor tutorials. I’m just finishing my version of your cup of tea and bowl of strawberries strawberries painting. I will post it on your Facebook page when I’m done.

Hi Lindsay! Welcome back 🙂 I love them all but if I had to pick a few it would be the maple leaf and the one that looks like you are looking up at a tree, very tall. Those are awesome.
BTW, Anna Mason’s classes are great too. I am a member of her watercolor school. Her style is much different from yours and I enjoy both just as much!

Welcome Home! Thank you for the interim videos, so we didn’t go through withdrawal. I have a smaller travel set of the Cotman watercolors, and I must not know too much, because I like them.
Would love to see tutorials of the Strawberries, Watermelon, Cupcake, the Fall Leaf, the Pails, and the big rocks on the shore.
P. S. … I’ve used a white gel pen to put in some highlights too! I figure, it’s my art, I’ll use what I want.

Hi Lindsay, welcome home. Glad you feel rejuvenated. I particularly like the rocky shore with the greenery that you did from the dock and the misty trees. I love driving to work seeing the mist rising and wondered how to get that effect. I would like to see tutorials on any of your paintings but these two in particular. I haven’t gotten into mixed media and am currently only interested in watercolor tutorials. I realize that you are much more well-rounded than that. I am trying to simplify plus get ready for traveling for retirement and want to take fewer items with me. I do LOVE make the origami boxes too!! That was a really fun lesson. thank you, GrammieKim

I never grow tired of watching your watercolor tutorials. I have learned more from watching those than I ever did in all the watercolor classes I’ve taken over the years.
I don’t understand people’s attitude towards Cotman watercolor either. I have used them for over 30 years. I have paintings that I did with Cotmans hanging in my home that are that old and show no fading. They are still as vibrant as when I first painted them.
I can only conclude that many people suffer from art snobbery and feel a paint is no good unless they have paid some ridiculous amount of money for it.

…or they need an excuse as to why their painting is not as good as they think it should be:)

Would love you to re-create any of the beautiful ones you did on vacation, was the one with the walkway over water one of the last two? If not, would love to see that one done, it looks so peaceful and beautiful.

The leaf painting is amazing! It truly looks 3-D. I had to do a double and triple take to see if it was really a painting. I am pretty sure even with a class I will not be able to make such realistic painting as yours. Thanks for the beautiful examples to look at!
