Attention Washi Tape Hoarders! Ahh, that got your attention didn’t it? I have a couple rolls of washi tape but I never seem to use it, either it is too nice to use, or it does not match my project or I forget I have it. Well, no more excuses because today I have a way for you to get the look of washi tape on your project without using or making tape! It is a masking trick and I will show you how to make the masks and use it and it is practically free! Nice huh? check out my faux washi card, nothing by cardstock and ink baby!

This was great. I will certainly try it. I have been making my own inexpensive washi tape by stamping on the paper tape found in the bandage section of the dollar store. I tear off strips, and stick them on my Teflon matt while I go to town with lots of my small stamps.

Thank you for sharing this tut Lindsay! I don’t have much Washi, it is sooo expensive here, I didn’t want to buy stamps just for that and I’ve been wondering about a frugal way of creating it – I don’t need to work it out now! Happy New Year xx

OMG what a wonderful idea. I know what I will be doing this weekend. I have been making my own with tissue paper and dbl sided tape. Has worked out great so far. Your way looks so much easier though. I have a lot of b-days coming up and these would make great b-day cards. Thanks so much for all the crafting ideas.

Thanks Lindsay, this is a fantastic idea! You can also use the “paper tape” from the dollar store to make washi tape for cards or items that don’t need to be photo safe.

it is just ink, it is a masking trick, watch the video you will see:) Make the template and just stamp on any paper for the LOOK of tape:)

How FANTASTIC!!!! You are a creative genius. I have some washi tape I bought, like so many other things, just because. They are hideous colors and patterns. Now I can make my own and use those for something else. GREAT idea.

hi!! I really love the washi tape idea. I’m only 12, but I like to have something to keep me busy. I really love to crochet ,( I even make hats for my 3 cats sometimes, as odd as it sounds) so when my grandmother saw your instructions on how to make the Katniss ( BEST SERIES EVER!)cowl, I tried it , but I got a little tired and I ran out out of yarn, so I improvised and made a short scaft that buttons around your neck, and it’s really warm. I used 2 different yarns at the same time to make it extra warm. I really enjoy getting the daily email, and i love the ideas you come up with. Thank You.

Now that is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO clever! I made my own Washi Tape by stamping on plain tape and it was much more involved!!!! TFS Lindsay!

wonderful idea! Have you tried just scraps and strips of paper, tearing the edge and just gluing the paper or cardstock on?… after stamping of course!
