Hi friends! Today I want to challenge you to dig out a supply you have not used in a while and use it. Try to think back to when you bought or were given the item and think about how excited you were at that moment and channel ‘past you’s’ excitement into ‘present you’s’ project! As an added bonus ‘future you’ will be happy you used up some of your stash!
When I was almost done making these cards I went rooting around in my embellishment drawer looking for the “perfect” accent for the card (bonus points if it had a sentiment on it!) and came across these tags from Making Memories. This product came out in 2009 and I think that is when I got it. It was a gift from my mom. I think I was afraid that this product would be discontinued so I hoarded the tags for the “perfect” project and then simply forgot I had it, until I saw the tags on clearance at Big lots and bought a ton, came home, put them away and again and forgot that I had them. It is time to stop the insanity people! I have decided that saving a special paper, embellishment or supply for “someday” is a bad idea because someday never comes. Today is the only day we have so go on, use the beautiful things you have collected. You deserve to:) Whoa, that was deep. Now on to the tutorial!

- Crop-a-dial hole punch/eyelet setter
- Embossing folder

A word about color mediums…
This project is the perfect example of how you can substitute products. In fact I dare say many products out there are near duplicates of each other or at least are close enough that you don’t need both. For instance, instead of watercolor crayons you could use: watercolor sticks, woodless watercolor pencils, water-soluble oil pastels, gelatos, scribble sticks or gel crayons. You could also use watercolor or gouache paint applied with a flat synthetic brush. You could use any water based markers or your trusty ink pads. We are not making a souffle here folks, it’s more like a gumbo and the more you infuse your own personality and supply stash in to it the more spicy the result will be!

Loved these cards Lindsay. Loved the watercolor effect of using the stamps with the watercolor crayons. Loved the embossed & ink effect. That brought the background up to a WOW. Thanks for making this video.

I would love your “I have to have it” series!!!! I have so much I don’t even know where to start my list. I have used most things I’ve bought, but I’m always surprised by what I unearth when I go looking for something else. I’m sure the majority of crafters suffer from this syndrome. 😉

I have many…. things that I had to have! The most costly was the original Cricut. I have about 30 design cartridges and only used about 5 of them. I haven’t used the machine in years.

I still have the origional Cricuit and also like many of my friends don’t use it often. Can’t see going into the new complicated ones. Use it when I need a bunch of circles or pieces for card classes.

Would love to have a list of products that as can be used as substitutes to other supplies. Kind of like cooking substitutions. Your videos help me a lot to sort through all the hype for products. I love how you show how to use different supplies, but then explain what you could use that’s already in your stash.

I have a beautiful tin of Bruynzeel pastel chalk pencils. I had to have it years ago and just don’t know how to use them. I’ve played with them from time to time, but most of them have not been used. Ugh! It was expensive.
I know I have a ton of others, but this one always haunts me.

You’re speaking to me 😂 So true…..I’m about to purge some paper for starters, that I will never use. Politely put, it’s unattractive to me, but came from a “stash” of items I purchased from someone. Instead of weeding through and keeping the goodies, I put it away … mixed in with other stuff thinking it might appeal to me at another time. Wrong. Same batch of stuff also had a lot of embellishments I don’t use, like stickers. Donate time for me! I do much less paper crafting than art or other forms of crafting anyway. Thank you for your candor….the way you are is one reason so many have come to adore you, watching over and over…forever evolving and full of creative, practical approaches to excercise your talents!

I would love to read your series on “I Have To Have It”. I’m also one of those persons who, over the years, have purchased items that I don’t really need. I have a Cricut and a Silhouette. I really only use the Silhouette and have plans on just donating the Cricut to someone who doesn’t want to spend the money for it. Its the last Cricut before the Cricut Air. It’s barely used. I had an older one (which was also barely
used but I just gave it to a CM consultant along with an small embossing machine I had. I have learned in the last two years to not order or purchase things as much (new scrapbooking items are always coming out) and because I just have too many things. I plan on using all the old embellishments that were cute 10 years ago and mix and match with the new embellishments of today.
I have entirely too much paper because I would go into a scrapbooking store and just grab papers because I liked them. Now I rely on small kits and work in those old papers until I know longer have them.

Very cute. I particularly like the effect you get from inking the raised/embossed paper. I don’t have an embosser and since I am in the process of minimizing …. to move into something much smaller (and maybe on wheels) will not be buying more crafty goodies. I also loved the background before you embossed and inked it, so that will be what works for me. I love that you share so freely and with enthusiasm. thank you.
Oh, and I just ordered the Daniel Smith Essentials kit on Amazon for $31. Wish I had found it for the $20 something you paid, but I am happy with it. I feel it is less than buying the six separately. Hopefully it will come Mon or Tues and I can start off with some washes, a color wheel, and a mixing chart so that I can really get into the Essentials course. Thank you for that. So far I have just been watching as I am not liking the mixes I get from my two small travel kits: Cotman and Koi. Love the kits though.

I’m pretty new, but bought a lot of stuff after seeing it used in tutorials. So many “had to haves” that I haven’t touched. But top of the list is a jar of gesso that I got to use with stencils to give texture. Haven’t touched it.

I do like your cards . Mine buying is travel 3d stickers which I hope to finally work on , I have so many photos taken on my travels and need to get them organized in an album. Maybe when I am 100.I will be able to complete this project.

Love the video. Where to start on the list of “have to have that” is tough. I think maybe Pearl Ex powders. Most of my stuff is from garage sales. I pay a dollar or two for someone else’s “have to have it” but never used stuff. Usually includes all the parts and pieces,. If I don’t like it I can just pass it on with no guilt.

You reminded me of those stamps you attached to something and stamped in a circle, I for the life of me can’t remember what they were called but I thought I knew where I put them. WRONG! I did find a box of borders cut out and ready to use ( never put stuff like that awayLOL) and a whole bunch of the versamark pads I bought when I was first getting Rubber Stamp Tapestry sets. I pulled them out to use . Can’t find the thingy you stamp in circles with. I really need a HUGE purge.
