Less Pity, More Painty!

Hi friends! I just wanted to let you know my funky mood-attitude is officially over although I filmed this yesterday when I was in full whine mode 🙂 (I shoulda had a glass of wine LOL!) I want to thank everyone for all of the lovely comments on my YouTube and blog yesterday, you all mean the world to me, how can I get down about a negative comment when there is so much positive awesomeness from you guys in my life? 😀 Today we will paint this:

blog_eccinaciadone

It was the most requested photo I took in my sister’s garden:

Don’t worry if you preferred a different photo, I have already filmed 2 more tutorials from the other photos, a colored pencil and an oil pastel, they will be up over the next few days. The video is long, I go in depth on the woodgrain and other elements of the painting. I hope you enjoy it and give it a try!

Video!

Sorry about any whining, well, you can say one thing, I truly talk to you like we are close friends! Have a great rest of your weekend and til next time happy crafting!

    1. I don’t mind when people who share their talents day after day and spread beauty amongst us, also share their feelings as you did. It’s good to let us know about the snags as well as the successes and this turned into a success, as well, IMO. 🙂

  1. Hey Lindsay!
I’ve wanted to be able to paint watercolours for years but never had too much success until I stumbled across your tutorials! You’ve taught me so much and opened up a whole new world for me! Your easy, flowing style and step by step tutorial encouraged me and taught me that watercolour can be loose and doesn’t have to be ultra detailed or perfect. I love your quirky, upbeat personality too. Please keep the tutorials coming and don’t be discouraged by one critic. Happy painting!!!

  2. Love all of your tutorials, especially the long ones as I get to learn a lot more. And as always, this picture turned out great! I work PT in one of the big box craft stores, and I’ve recommended your website to lots of people over the years. Sorry someone was not so kind in what they said, but please don’t take it to heart. You’re a great teacher and artist, and so many of us look forward to all your tutorials. Don’t feel bad if once in a while you feel a little down — everyone needs a pity party sometimes and then you pick yourself up and keep going.

  3. Being sensitive is a great strength, but it can come at a cost to you. Try to lessen that cost. Before you read the comments, say out loud to yourself, “There will always be cranky people in this world.” Repeat as necessary.

  4. I think you are gifted and an asset to the human race. Negativity is so destructive and makes us feel undervalued . I see a picture here that is infused with a pinch of fairy dust… It has enhanced the reality and given us a fantasy world of flora. This is pure joy.
I love the idea of having an American friend 🙂

  5. Was watching my 4yr old grandson colouring the other day. He was chatting away about what he was doing and then said “one day I’ll be as good as Lindsay”. Thought I’d share that to cheer you up. We love your tutorials and are learning so much 😉

  6. Please ignore whoever made the unkind post. We all have rough days and having a pity party is allowed and also healthy sometimes. Love that you share so many great things with us all. Not only have I learned a bunch, I also tell all of my crafty buddies all about you. Thanks so much for showing me my whole punch can be adjusted. I had no idea and now will be making planners for a lot of people. (since you showed me how I can easily punch holes where I need them.) Hang in there and keep your wonderful tutorials and ideas coming. Thanks girlfriend.

  8. Everything you do is wonderful. I love your energy and style. You make us feel like we are all your friends and just having some coffee with you while we do art. Don’t waste time on the negative stuff. Consider if there is anything constructive in what they are saying, take that part in, and let the rest go. It is our human nature to focus on the negative even though you have thousands of positive. You can.t please everyone all the time. Please just keep, doing what you do and know that we’ll always come back to your studio for coffee and art. 😄

  9. I was told to wait a week to read evaluations when organizing a conference. This way you are hardened for the critical comments. There are always some and we tend to remember them.

You are a great person and fun to watch. You’re videos are real, not some polished segments.

Keep teaching and showing. We love you.

  11. Great job as usual. I could watch you all day, it is so relaxing to listen to you. Like the other day when you said it was the chair not your daughter making the farting noise. I thought of the time I went with daddy and my little brother to the eye doctor. He was born with cataract on his eyes. I was about 14 and he liked the elevator so they went out of the waiting room and came back. The waiting room was small but packed with people. I thought they rode the elevator so I ask him what they did now he was about 3 at the time. He commented I peed daddy peed and I farted. Well at that age I put my head down in my lap from embarrassment . Daddy said well you ask. And he hates it when I tell that story. But you know little ones tell you the facts about things. As for adults sometimes when they make comments,I think they are jealous of other people’s talent. I know it is hard to not let it bother you. But they are the ones with the problem. You have a good rest of the weekend. Love Patricia I have 4 sisters and you make the 5 th.

  13. I am new to card making and water-coloring. I look forward to watching all your videos! You have so many great tips! Your are a very talented artist as well as a teacher! Thanks.

PS I was taught that if you do not have a kind word, don’t say it at all.
Hopeful that person could use this advice. People sometimes do not know when a ignorant or hurtful comment is made that it affects the person it was made to,. Anyway, a BIG THANK YOU for sharing your talents!

  16. You gave me the courage to put paint on paper! I watch you every day. I have no use for mean people. If they are not related to you, just move on. You are a sweet heart and patient. For those who like to watch a different kind of teacher, the least they could do is just go away. You are a great teacher. Others dont give as much information. I look forward to your next project.

  17. There will always be hayers. Ignore them. They have to do it to feel powerful. Think of Trump’s comment on Rosie! I’m not a fan of hers, but please! We love u!

  18. I have watched almost every video you have done for the past 8 years or so. I loved you back in the day of the snarky, self deprecating comments you’d put on the screen that would make me laugh out loud. But I like how you are so comfortable with the camera now and knowing you’re talking to your people that you ask us questions as if we could answer in real time. Watching your videos and listening to the random info about your day is like hanging and crafting with a friend. Oh, and for the people who say harsh things (in messages or in real life), I just make up some silly nickname for them in my head, like Poopiehead Paula or Busybody Betty… or maybe a couple more inappropriate ones when it really bothers me 😉 and give them a funny sounding nasal-y voice, and picture them in bathrobes and curlers. It lessens the weight of their comment. Who could take someone like that seriously, right?!?

  20. This tutorial was longer than most of yours, but I was able to pick up much more from the real-time recording, such as the difference between brushes and how to use them for different effects.

Lindsay, you are so sweet and I love your videos. I enjoy your friendly chatter. You are always doing something while you talk so I never feel that I am just sitting, waiting for the tutorial to begin.

If not for you, I would have never tried water colours in the first place. You help me to relax and not be so concerned about making mistakes. Some of my favourite quotes from you are: “It’s only paper”, “I’m not going to worry about that”, “I can always fix that later” and “Painting should be fun”. You give me courage to try and keep trying. I’m sure you do the same for others and that is a very big deal.

As for the nasty comment, let me tell you what I discovered recently on You Tube. There is a lady who has dedicated her life to helping the poorest of the poor, especially in Mozambique. She left her privileged life in USA to live in a garbage dump in Africa so she could rescue starving orphans. Over the last 20-30 years she and her husband have fed and housed thousands. She is the most love-filled, humble person you could ever meet. And this is what I discovered: a You-Tube video criticizing and mocking her. There were probably more than one, but I had no desire to search them out.

Lindsay, what you do is important and breathes life into many people. Unfortunately, that also makes you a target for people who are mean-spirited. It’s not right. And it’s not true.

You are a blessing and I am praying for you.

    Hugs,
    Teresa

    Your a genius
I like your tutorials a lot, sorry for my two comments previously in pain today and trying to relax and do something creative.

we all have rough days, I’m having a bad pain day again (severe endo sucks but there’s worse things to get, but it’s very hard when your in pain a lot)
    Your a kind person too
I enjoy the chat on your videos too. It’s not just someone saying ‘now you do this’ it’s entertaining!
but with step by step way of learning from your tutorials.
