Hi friends! I was cleaning out the framing area of my studio and came across some priority mail boxes with art that had been shipped back to me after being published in The Decorative Painter magazine. They have been waiting patiently to be re-framed. It got me thinking that it might be a nice topic for a video to share tips and instructions on how to get your artwork or crafts published in a magazine. I had to learn from trial and error buy you don’t have to if you try some of my tips:
I hope you found that helpful. If you are curious about the magazines I have been published in you can read my resume and publication list. I am a few months behind on publications but you get the idea. The biggest tip I can give you is to keep at it. Persistence pays off, don’t be discouraged and do your best! Thanks for stopping by and til next time happy crafting!
Thanks for the helpful info. I would love to see your story on video of how you’ve made an artful living!

This was very helpful! You amaze me with all the different things you do and now I find out you juggle too! I’m very interested in learning more about how you make your living as an artist. Do some magazines hire people to create custom illustrations to go with a specific article?

yes, some magazines have illustrators that they always use because they have a distinct style that reflects the magazines, think TIME, Rolling Stones or Vegetarian Times and some mags use stock images. I have not done magazine illustration so I can’t help you too much buy you can write an editor to ask if they use freelance illustrators or not.

Hi Lindsay. I would love you to make other videos about how to promote our crafts or art peaces. Even though I am not in the United States maybe I could try too ? Thank you.
