Hi Friends! Last weekend I came up with a new and better way to store my stencils and it cost less than $10. Have a look:
It was really just an update of this method but I love how I can grab all of my messy stencils and take them wherever I want to work. My other templates (tracing and cutting ones) live in a binder I can flip through but for the messy ones it does the trick.
Here are the categories I have my stencils sorted in:
- Small stencils (6″x6″ and smaller in the front of the divider so I can see them from the outside)
- 12″x12″ background stencils-store bought
- 12″x12″ background stencils-handmade
- 8.5″x11″ stencil backgrounds
- DCWV brand 12″x12″ stencils
- Oriental Trading 12″x12″ stencils
*All others are 8.5″x11″ - Basic Shapes
- Nature
- Borders/Designs
- Occasion
The only ones that do not work in the Darice Spectrafile are my large decor and homemade hot glue stencils. I hope this gives you some ideas to corral your stencil stash. Happy crafting!
Well, you have me rethinking now about this. I have been using 12 x 12 (3) rings notebooks with protector pages and a piece of paper in the protector but the thicker one I have is getting really heavy and some of my Prima stencils are a bit to big. This might hold all my stencils. Drawback is I have 6 x 6 and 12 x 12 of some of the same stencil (interesting to use both on one page) and have gotten used to seeing them individual. I do like both ways but like your option. They should make dividers for this.

I have mine in a binder right now but it is getting a little thick. I may have to switch to your new method. Thanks for the idea!

Great Idea. I used them at the law firm, but never put 2+2 together.
Thanks Lindsay. . . :0)

I use something similar to store all my embellishments and scrap paper for card making. It’s so easy to find everything and I can take it away with me too

Seems impossible to find it in Europe and none of the US stores I found selling them were shipping to Europe…how disappointing ! Just got excited and it was followed by disappointment….sigh.. Again….

I like this idea! I have mine in separate plastic folders organized in a similar manner to your method however the one piece file really appeals to me. Thank you!
