Does anyone remember that episode of Seinfeld? Hahahaha, sorry, I couldn’t resist! Well today I have 2 videos showing you some fabulous backgrounds you can make with dye reinkers (or liquid watercolors/food coloring) and various sponges. I was inspired to make this video when a youtube viewer asked for help using her Posh Impressions Rainbow Sponge, I bought some on clearance years ago and thought for sure they were discontinued but no! You can still get her sponges and inks, yay! But I did find DIY alternatives too, such as make up wedges and foam bath blocks. Warning, you will get inky doing this so wear gloves if you don’t want to walk around with blue hands for 2 days (don’t ask me how I know..)
After doing the first video I realized that I forgot a great technique, marbleizing! Rather than edit (I am lazy you see) I just uploaded is separately.
Not bad for sponges and ink eh? If you want to try something else fun and creative you can stamp and emboss in clear ink before sponging and your image will stay white and pop out! Have fun experimenting and til next time happy crafting!

I love that you encourage the use of stuff we have! Or can make (or make do.) And you are totally right, we have more supplies than we know what to do with (well we know what to do, there just is not enough time to use them all.)

I’m glad you brought this back to life again! I used to luv, using the compressed sponge and inks and still have so many inks from that time! I still think it’s much fun but kinda died down…. I like what you did, with the spilled ink. That was so true about using the non stick craft mat! 🙂

Hi my Love Lindsay, thank you so much for sharing your great techniques. I have not used a lot of inks yet….so how do you get your hands clean? Just soap and water? If yes, than no gloves required… Love Ya’ Patricia

I am trying to find a sponge that is similar to the Rainbow sponge. I have tried the Magic Sponge but it dulls the alcohol ink on tile and leaves a residue on other materials like Yupo. Can you recommend any? Also, I am looking for the Magic Sponge. It can be heated and stamps made by pressing objects into the heated sponge. Both have been discontinued. Any ideas? I love your website and channel.

you can use a kids foam bath block like a magic sponge, also Simon Hurley just came out with a new “magic sponge” with Ranger I think. I think felt is better than a spong for alcohol inks so try attaching a peice of felt to a block for swiping alcohol ink. As far as a rainbow sponge you can try a magic eraser or the dollar store version.
