DIY Hairsticks! Easy to make and fun to wear!

Hi friends! Today I will share a fun hair accessory that is inexpensive to make using supplies from Papermart!

Supplies for the Organza Ribbon Flower Hairsticks:

• 2 3/4 organza ribbon in pink and 7/8″ wide in green
• scissors
• wire
• cute bead or button
• wire cutter and needle nose pliers
• skinny dowel
• pencil sharpener
• fine sandpaper, waved paper, awl and a small saw or cutting tool
• hot glue

Directions:

1. Prepare the hairsticks by cutting a small dowel into 6″ long sections. Sharpen one end with a pencil sharpener and sand smooth, buff with waxed paper.
2. Wrap 2 3/4″ wide organza ribbon around your hand 4 times and cut. Cut through the folds on each side of the ribbon so you have 8 squares of organza. Stack them up randomly so they do not line up and make a hole in the center with an awl or needle. Cut a 4″ piece of wire and slide a bead or button in the center and pull the wire to the back and securing with a small twist. Push the wire ends through the hole in the ribbon. Holding the flower by the wire make a few snips in the organza and gently heat the flower over a candle. Make sure you move the flower so all of the layers get curled.
3. Wrap the wire ends around the blunt end of the hairstick and the add a bit of glue and wrap a foot of 7/8″ wide green organza ribbon over the wire, tie the ends in a double knot to secure.

Directions for the Feather Hairsticks:

1. Prepare the hairsticks by cutting a small dowel into 6″ long sections. Sharpen one end with a pencil sharpener and sand smooth, buff with waxed paper.
2. Select feathers for hairsticks. I used a combination of turkey and guinea feathers from Papermart. Hot glue the ends of the feathers an inch from the blunt end of the dowel.
3. Place a thin bead of hot glue along the area where the feathers are glued to the stick then tightly wrap rat-tail cord around the base of the feathers until they reach the bare dowel. This gives the hairsticks a neat appearance and keeps the feathers secure.
4. Embellish with beads and rhinestones as desired.

DIY Organza Ribbon Cords for Pennies!

Hi friends! When I saw organza ribbon necklace cords for sale online I knew I could make them on the cheap using high quality supplies from Papermart:

Supplies:

• 1/4″ Organza Ribbon (100 yards for $3.22)
• 2mm Rat tail Cord  (200 yards for $8.03)
• Jewelry findings: cord ends, jump rings, barrel clasps
  Tools: Chain nose pliers, needle nose pliers, scissors
• Optional: 3″x5″ clear bags for packaging finished jewelry like I showed in the video (1,000 bags for $12.20)

Directions:

1. Cut ribbon and cord to desired length.
2. Center cord over ribbon and place on cord ends and crimp closed with chain nose pliers.
3. Add clasp.

Sure, pre-made ribbon cords are not that expensive, you can buy them made for a dollar or less a piece but they are probably made with cheap supplies, you can make them with really good supplies for 5 cents worth of ribbon and a few inexpensive findings and only a couple of minutes of your time. How to Line an envelope & Make a Quick Card!

Hi Friends! Do you ever need a last-minute card to send? Or maybe you want to make a stationery set to give as a  gift or sell at a craft fair? Well today I’ll show you how to line and envelope and make a chic and trendy card in under 5 minutes!

I think it took me 10 minutes to make the set of three! Talk about a great craft fair idea and you can do it affordably using supplies from our sponsor Papermart:

Supplies

• white envelopes
• scrapbook paper
• cream cardstock
• organza ribbon
• adhesive
• ink pads
• embossing folder and die cut machine
• Optional: Clear bags for packaging up your card sets for sale-I like the 6″x9″ size

Directions

1. Measure envelope from under the glue on the flap to the bottom of the envelope. Measure the width minus 1/8″ Cut paper scrapbook paper to that size.
2. Trace the flap of the envelope on the scrapbook paper and cut on the lines.
3. Insert liner into envelop and attach with a bit of glue.
4. To make the card emboss the front panel of a card with and embossing folder and fold in half. Ink the raised design if desired.
5. Adhere a strip of leftover scrapbook paper to the front and tie a ribbon around that area.

Scrunched Organza Flower Tutorial!

Howdy friends! Today I am going to share a fun and easy project with you. And I mean EASY! I had seen beautiful organza flowers in boutiques  and thought boy, I bet they are really time consuming to make. I was also worried that it was a hit-or-miss type of craft. I knew making these involved using a flame to singe organza fabric but I could not believe that it is this quick and easy, not to mention fun! So if you know any little girls, own a hair-bow business or sell your stuff at craft fairs you are going to want to try this, especially considering that they only cost about 25 cents to make (using supplies from Papermart that is) and they sell for $8-$16 bucks! Don’t believe me? Check ETSY! This craft is not for children, we will be using a candle to curl the fabric. Watch the video to see how.

I recommend you have a clear work surface and you wear short sleeves when making this project. Be sure to put the candle out when you are done with the heating the fabric bit, I know how easy it is to get distracted when creating, let’s be safe out there!

Supplies available for cheap at Papermart:

Organza Fabric (60″ wide fabric, 10 yards for $10.40, 25 yards for $17.33 or save a couple bucks a bolt if you are placing a large order!)

Glitter (99 cents a tube, yay for cheap thrills!)

Organza Ribbon

Hair Clips (I used the 3 1/8″ but there are other sizes available, bags of 100 are $4.75-$8.80, that’s only 5 to 9 cents a barrette!)

Fabric Flowers (I used them on the pink hair clip)

Other: Hot glue gun and sticks, buttons or brads and other embellishments you might want to add such as beads. You can also attach the flowers to inexpensive headbands if you don’t want a barrette.

I think these would also make wonderful party favors or baby shower gifts (make a headband with soft fold-over elastic BUT never leave a baby unattended with a headband on) or even a wonderful surprise for your daughters or granddaughters. I have a few flowers left over that I think will be lovely on a scrapbook page, oh, you could even make them smaller to go on cards! This is an idea with potential and I do hope you give it a whirl!
