Pretty Watercolor Magnolia and an Idea for Your Artwork!

Hi friends! Today I will show you how to paint this pretty magnolia:

DCF 1.0
DCF 1.0

I teamed up with Snapfish to come up with a fun way to showcase artwork. I’m sure you know what a good job Snapfish does with photo printing but you can create so many awesome things with your artwork too! They have a lot of fun items you can have your art printed on in addition to cards, calendars, canvases and books! You can even have your art printed on blankets and pet beds! Take a look at what I had my painting printed on in today’s video!

Supplies:

  • Watercolor paper
  • Watercolors (Grumbacher set of 12 transparent)
  • Watercolor  (Koh-I-Noor)
  • 140# watercolor paper
  • pencil
  • 1″ wash and #8 round brush (Grumbacher)
  • Paper towel, water bucket, tape
  • Reference photo

I had a lot of folks ask me to do a long version of this painting and I am thinking of doing it again for Fridays live show. What do you think? Should I do a long version in watercolor, oils, pastels or acrylics? Let me know in the comments below. I had so much fun partnering with Snapfish on this video and I was really impressed with the quality of the print on the pillow, I also wanted to mention that unzip the cover if you need to wash it. Thanks for stopping by and til next time happy crafting!

  1. I just peeked ahead at the watercolor pencil video and was ready to buy. Thought I’d check the pricing elsewhere and so far haven’t found them anywhere else, BUT I found the set of 72 Derwent w/c pencils at Jerry’s Artarama for $110! I just got one of those “out of the blue” checks in the mail and was thinking of treating myself, since it’s becoming one of my favorite mediums to use with my stamped images and in my coloring book! What do you think???

    1. Realy, you can’t go wrong with either and both stores are fine company and sponsors. If you shop Jerrys they often have a 25% off coupon either missyou25 or welcome25 I think and it works on regular sale items (not super sale) but it is worth a try. I did find out that the aquablend pencils are 50-100 years lightfast so that is great and you get about 14 more pencils for near the same amount. Really, you can’t go wrong with either set.

  2. Love it, but then again, love everything I’ve seen since I found this site! Unfortunately, I also have gone out and bought evrything you suggest! LOL But I have also have the encouragement to try new medium so thank you for all! I have water color pencils I’d like to try working with so that’s what I vote for! Thanks!!!

    1. I can’t afford to go buy everything suggested. When I do buy art supplies, I give serious weight to the advice from Lindsay Weirich, Steve Mitchell, Angela Fehr, Susan Harrison-Tustain, and other artists whom I admire. I have learned collecting art supplies is highly addictive!

  3. I love watching you paint! Your pillow turned out great. I have several collage blankets from Snapfish. I love the idea of using artwork, if I can do something that is worth it. Thanks for your ideas.
