Could you recommend a good color guide source. When you’re mixing your watercolors together, you talk about combining the colors. For example, how do you know what red and what yellow to use to get a certain shade of orange? Is this only from experience or can you recommend a book or site for color theory where you can learn it?

Regarding the Tim Holtz scissors, I have seen recent ads for a new 9.5″ shears/scissors–like the shorter blade one with rubber handles-longer blade good for cutting everything from chipboard to scissors–think it retails for about $20l

One quick question: I’m thinking about buying a few of the twinkling H2O’s. I’ve seen a few videos and am intrigued. Can you tell me if this would be a a wise investment? What’s your view about this product? Thank you for inspiring me to be more creative.

I was a Stampin UP demonstrator, and it’s 20% (not 30%) and they don’t want you to use anything but their product which is not reasonable to me. If they don’t offer a particular product I don’t see why I can’t use another company’s product. I also think their items are overpriced.

Have a great time at the Heirloom Show…our group, the Paper Dolls, went 2 weeks ago to the one in Portland, OR…best show ever even tho’ there were only 22 vendors. We thought we would only be there a couple of hours tops…we stayed six hours plus! What a fun time! They even took our picture because we thought it was such a great show – LOL! So look out…they will have their camera ready!

On this AAC 39, someone asked a question regarding “floating” paint, or something like that. Your answer was that it helps with “side loading”. My question is: what is side loading? Thank you! Lindsay, you and Lorraine and Kathy certainly deserve the summer off–but boy will I miss Ask a Crafter! (I’ll watch reruns) So my question is about Starbella Yarn. First, I was so clueless, I bought some on clearance, just thinking it looked pretty. I knitted it up just like any other yarn, and it made this nice very sturdy panel that was perfect to make into a tote bag! Then, I realized I had two more skeins in my stash! So I researched it a little after looking at the pattern on the label, and realized that you simply loop this yarn onto your needle, and knit across the top edge and it naturally makes a ruffle scarf–so easy. Again, I was clueless with the first two skeins! Anyhoo–I had already rolled this into a ball. But what’s happening is I’m having to constantly untwist it as I knit to keep knitting on that top edge straight. I wonder if I shouldn’t have wound it into a ball, of if I should have wound it onto a piece of cardboard or just left it alone. I love how it looks though. Have you knit with this type of yarn? I have found that if you unravel the whole skein and then wind it up again around the empty cardboard rolly thing that comes with a toilet paper tissue roll or a paper towel roll it works wonderfully. It does take some time to do this, but you will save it plus more in the long run by not having to deal with the skein getting all twisted out of shape as you are knitting. Good luck,

Thank you for another great AAC video! Regarding the Tim Holtz scissors: I have a pair that I used a 40% off coupon on at Michaels and I use them all the time. They’re great for cutting rubber, plastic, tin, …. all those materials you don’t want to shred your good scissors on. Have fun at the stamp show! Wish I could go!

I do not have a cutting machine but would like to. You mentioned that you have few dies because you use a digital cutter as well as your Big Shot. Would you please explain the different cutting choices and what specific products you would recommend and why.

Hello again!
I forgot to say that I just want to cut shapes, not print images withe the machine. Also, do all dies work with the various non-computerized cutters? For instance, do the dies you bought on sale for $10 work with all machines? If not, how can we tell which will work with which?

generally all consumer dies will work in a consumer machine, I have a Big Shot and can use all dies in it. Commerical dies are rhick wook and work in commercial machines like Accucut.

There are many electronic die cutters on the market, I would choose one that you can cut fonts and computer images like the Silhouette or the Sizzix Eclipse (With ecal software) that way you are not locked into buying expensive cartridges for everything. You can use Sizzix cartridges with the eclips too and they are reasonable (unlike Cricut but that is another rant LOL!) I reckon the Silhouette is more accurate but the eclips has cheaper mats and blades. There are other makes and models out there. You want to do research to make sure you get just what you need:)

Hi Lindsay!
After spending hours online comparing die cutters I am undecided between the Sizzix eclip and the Big Shot. Am I right that the eclip will not emboss? Also, I can’t find the nested die shapes for the eclip. Is that because I can change the size on the computer? If so, are they in 1/8 inch increments like the manual dies. I’m looking for the traditional shapes but think it would be cool to design some non-representational shapes and cut them out.
Any help you could give in deciding which to chose would be most appreciated.

I purchased a set of Tombow dual brush waterbased pens. They came with a blender pen. I am not having any success making this bending happen. How should I be doing this? Is it possible that the blender is dried up even though new? How do I moisten it up? If you have a tutorial already please direct me to it.
What type of scissors do I use to cut my set of “Garden Friends” rubber stamps from Art Neko/Accents up with? Kitchen shears? Sewing? Exacto Knife?

I have a tutorial on blending with the waterbased blenders here, if it feels dry add equal parts water and glycerin to it, I have stampin up blender pens I keep refilling for years with this. For trimming the rubber I use KAI shears for rubber stamps because I mount a lot but You can use any heavy duty scissors or a knife, just be careful and don’t use your sewing scissors because it will dull them. Ok, after more hours of research on both the Big Shot and eclips I have decided to wait for the blue tooth version of eclips out in a few months. Now my question is do you think it a good idea to eventually own both products. I’m not certain since I know I can emboss w/o a machine thanks to you! So, I guess my question is, other than embossing what could I do with the Big Shot that I can’t do with the eclips?
