Howdy friends! I spent some time today just playing at my desk stamping. I got a new stack of rubber from Lost Coast Designs and in it was this beautiful cityscape stamp:
The markers, buttons, doily and washi tape were all left on my desk from a previous project and I was just playing with no expectation…and sometimes that’s when you end up with something you really like. You can see how I made this card here:
So, what new products are you wanting to play with? They don’t even have to be new, sometimes when you revisit old product that you haven’t used in a while it is just like buying something new. No, really. I have been in the process of going through old tins of colored pencils and pastels and just playing (to curb my desire for the set of 72 Inktense Blocks that I have been coveting for months now) and I find that trying new techniques with old products fills that need for “new” and I get to feel good that I used something I already had rather than the guilt of buying yet another medium. Then when you do get something new, like the stamp I used today for example, it magnifies the uses of your old product and keeps it fresh. New stuff is fun but trying new techniques with old products is fun too and not to mention free since those supplies are already bought and paid for. 2 – QUESTIONS PLEASE
Lindsey since Inktense pencils seem to require very little water can you use them on the Georgia Pacific Paper, or should it be watercolor paper?
When using embossing paste over a stencil, is this also done on watercolor paper or again can you use Georgia Pacific? No video I
have watched mentions the type of paper they are using.

Hi Eileen,
You can use the inktense pencils on the GP paper, I do all the time for stamping. If I want to do a wetter watercolor painting with them I use watercolor paper. You can use stencil paste on the GP as well. that reminds me that I need to grab another ream of the paper at Sams Club next time I go!

You didnt say but Im sure I caught on the video that you used Memento Ink pens to color right? Also you were going to spritz with water but huffed instead, can you spritz with Memento Ink?????

I love the cityscape stamp and love your card. I ALWAYS love watching you make cards–well, anything for that matter, but especially cards.
What I’ve been playing with: my scrap paper…making valentine embellishments –fun and I’m proud of the way they turned out as well–often I feel like chucking what I make. Instead I put it in a ‘redo/reconsider/rethink” box–like the governor giving a stay of execution (awful comparison I know).
QUESTION: I hate paying a dime a piece for envelopes and want to make some off white/cream colored ones. (can’t stand putting a
cream based card in white evie.)
What weight of paper should I use? When I make white envies I use my copy paper–GA Pacific, or the white side of decorative paper I dislike.
Since I need to buy off white/cream paper I thought I’d ask first. I’ll probably pick some up at Staples. I know cover weight and card stock is too thick/heavy. But copy paper seems a bit ‘thin’–a more luxe feeling would be nice, if it doesn’t cost much more. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

I think the colored copy paper at staples might be 24# and I think that would suffice for envelopes. I know Waussau (spelling) brand feels heaver than copy paper, I’m not sure if they have cream but if so staples should have it or you can get cream resume paper which is heftier than typing/copy paper:)

Thank you!!!!.I knew your input would be a big help. I’ll check the weight of my GP copy paper and see how it compares to the Staples brand and I’ll see if the Waussau comes in cream–if not I will check the resume paper.
There’s not a lot of info on the internet when it comes to paper for envelopes. And I think the pre-made ones are way too expensive. I’ve even considered making my standard cards to fit the inexpensive envelopes that are $1 or $2 for a box of 100.
Have you ever gone that route? Making cards to fit the inexpensive pre-made envies that are $1-2 for a box of 100? I’d love seeing the end result if you have.
For the life of me I can’t understand the wide difference in the cost. Maybe it’s supply and demand? I inwardly cringe when I give a handmade card in an store bought envelope knowing that it will end up in the trash immediately after opening—does that make me cheap or just frugal?? Cost is why I started making my own.

I usually make my own unless I see a really good deal on A2 size at Staples or dollar tree. I use the leftover sheets from the 180 stacks of paper I buy, there are always leftover s and that paper is about only a 5 cents a sheet and I love u I have no idea why envies cost so much.sing it up! I use a kreate a lope because it is quick and easy:)

I took your suggestion –it was in one of your videos–to use the 12×12 stacks to make envelopes and use the leftover paper from making the envelope to decorate my card, thereby coordinating the two. Brilliant I must say. I find I am now using my stacks.
As for an envelope maker–I wanted the kreate-a-lope but when I was at a scrapbook convention last fall they were selling the envelope punch boards for $18…and I got to play with it firsthand and found it was easy and made a consistently good envelope. It was a now-or-never situation because I knew I would not get it at that price anytime soon. So I bought it and haven’t regretted it yet.

Love this card. I don’t normally buy those type of stamps because I never know what to do with them – love them, but don’t buy them. Maybe some will now jump into my shopping basket!

I’m not Lindsey, but I’m pretty certain the ink in the Momento markers is water based–hence huffing or spritzing would work.

Yes you can mist them, they are waterbased and my fave WB marker:) You did post the question to me but we all help out around here:)

Wow, this is a stunning card! I just love it. I am headed over to order that stamp now, and I will be sure and tell them I was inspired by the most awesome crafter ever-you! I had never looked into Lost Coast stamps before discovering your blog, but now I am so glad I did. I love their funky and different stamps. I have my eye on all of the Alice In Wonderland, Wizard of Oz stamps, and the sheet with the mini flying ladies-how cool!

I love these cards! I have lots of lovely stamps and some Promarkers, I am tempted to try them out together. What kind of ink pads did you use? And do you think big blusher brushes would work instead of the brushes you used?

The regular promarkers are alcohol based so if you want to do this technique you will need to spray your rubber stamp with alcohol to re wet the ink. Alcohol is drying for rubber so make sure you clean the stamp well and condition it with glycerin afterward to keep the rubber from cracking. I don’t think I used an inkpad on this tutorials, only waterbased markers. You need a stuff brush to blend, more like a mans shaving brush then a blush brush. Also you could sponge it:)

Well that’s good to know about the alcohol markers! I use Stazon a lot and clean it with a baby wipe, but maybe I should use some glycerin after that too if it’s solvent based? I live in the UK and I’m not sure where to buy it, but maybe I’ll have a hunt! The two things you dipped the brushes into, were they not ink pads? Thanks for replying so quickly 🙂

oh yes, they were dye ink pads, any brand, the juicer the better, distress works well but I was using stampin up I think:) You can find glycerin at Boots in the UK or online at amazon:)

Hi, I ordered this stamp along with two others on 1/23 and am still waiting and its 2/4/14 today. Anyone else waiting for their stamp that ordered it? Lindsey, hopefully this company isnt a problem is it? I never heard of them before your video nor have I ordered from them before so Im not familiar. A Linda told me she was shipping and I still havent received anything.

I just forwarded your comment over to Linda, the owner of Lost coast Designs. She is usually on the road doing stamp shows so it might have taken her a day or two to mail it from her office. I know her personally and she is honest and trustworthy, I’m sure you will get your stamps:)
