Evenin’ folks! It officially feels like fall ’round these parts. I watched my son compete in a cross country meet with 7 schools today and it was so chilly (I can’t imagine how all the shorts and tank-topped runners felt) that it must have taken all my energy to keep warm because I zonked out on the couch after dinner! I was chilly all day really, I brewed a pot of tea and put it on my coffee-cup warmer while I worked in my studio and drank cup after cup of raspberry zinger. It won’t be long until snow falls…anyway, I’m gonna keep it short tonight (yawn) and share another quick watercolor tutorial:
I love irises and I filmed a quick video to show you how to draw and paint them. Today we will use a new item, wax, in out painting, nothing fancy, just a hunk of wax like an old candle or white crayon. We will also use my most useful, yet least fancy tool: a piece of cut up credit card. Have a look.
I hope these quick free watercolor tutorials help you discover the fun in watercolor painting. I try to introduce a new technique each time so you can create beautiful paintings while adding to your bag of tricks. If you want to learn more about watercolor or try longer projects please consider one of my PDF printableĀ Learn to Paint With Lindsay painting tutorials. the new Autumn stream tutorial uses the wax technique you learned today.
Well, I better mosey before I fall asleep at the keyboard. Thanks for stopping by and til next time happy crafting!
Loved this tutorial thank you.

This is such a beautiful painting!! I am loving all your tutorials as despite reading about watercolour in loads of art books and going along to demos etc at my local art club I never ‘got’ how to watercolour until I started watching your demos and think I am going to have to purchase some from your shop. Thank you so much for sharing your talent.

who cares if the painting is rubbish? Nobody has to see it unless you want them to, it’s only a piece of paper anyway. If you don’t try you won’t succeed! Give it a try!

Excellent tutorial and it just solved one of my many problems as a beginner of water colour painting. I realized myself that I was overworking it – I’m too used to tole painting I think…but I couldn’t figure out why I had harsh lines and it was because the water was pooling. So, now I know how to correct that. Thanks again for a wonderful lesson. I’m still not ready to post any of my water colouring on my blog but one day I will!

I LOVE your cards!! I have been painting for last three years, and just found your YouTube demonstrations! I am hooked! I have been having my cards printed and am just now beginning to make some money. I used to do a lot of alcohol ink paintings, not the abstract. Thank you. Love your iris and the cat!
