Creative play with a new “old” tool & lattice edge cards!

Well helllooooo my crafty friends. I snuck down to my craft room to play a bit yesterday, here are the results:

DCF 1.0

I even made 2 videos! The first is how to make the lattice edge braid on the edge of this card. BTW the can can girls stamp is from Lost Coast Designs. All you need is cardstock, scissors, a pencil and a ruler. A 45 degree angle is handy too if you have one, if not take a paper square and cut it from corner to corner and you are in business! Let’s make a lattice edge card:

Well, that was easy huh? I got rummaging around, as I often do, in my studio drawers and came across a tool I got years ago called a Roltap. It is like a tiny sponge brayer and I used it to do some nifty techniques, watch as I finish this card! I also dusted off the color dusters, stencil brushes and chalk!

So, then I got to thinking, I wonder if Colorbox still makes Roltaps because now I see how cool it is I want more so I have one head for each color family. No such luck, I guess I’ll have to come up with a frugal replacement…I’ll keep you posted! That’s it for me. If you have any questions on anything I posted today feel free to leave a comment, thanks for stopping by and til next time happy crafting!

  1. Great card and really cool tutorials. I just invested in some stamps and want to try something like this. I love the combinations of materials with that soft, old-fashioned look.

  2. Great ideas, Lindsay! The lattice edge is new to me. Just love the “ribbon” look of the Roltaps tool. Hope I can find one! Thanks for all you do! ♡

  3. Just happen to have a roltap in my stash from years ago! You have encouraged me to take it out again. Also love the hint of the quilt tacking spray. As always a great post. Thanks.

  4. Ok, what about those little paint rollers at the home improvement stores? The ones for detail work maybe????? I am just not sure what the smallest size might be…… Thank you for the lattice folding technique, that looks really pretty. 🙂

  5. I looked on-line and found it on Amazon.com for $69.95…they only have one, but it is a bit pricey for my budget. I’m sure you did NOT pay that when you got yours…LOL! E-bay did not have it, nor Stampamania.com – guess they sold the one they had?

    1. oh no! I went to my sisters shop and she still has some for $4 each (handle with 2 ends) ans she said it would not be much to ship. She does not have a website but she will do mail order. The number is 207 968-2498, it is a department of Lakeview Lumber ask for Bry-ann in the craft department. She has about 6 left:) I think the thing at amazon was a part of the large colorbox tool and stylus set with inkpads and stuff…gosh for $70 it should stamp my project for me too LOL!

  6. Great video and love that stamp and the technique too. Dollar stores sell cheapo paint rollers made of foam, I bet you could cut down the foam roller, mine is about 4.5″ wide and a little sturdy with a plastic core about the thickness of an ink pen barrel, sure hubby could cut through it though. I think they make even flimsyier ones, the deluxe models that come with a mini paint tray, bet you could cut them into multiples. ~Diane

  8. You might be able to use foam hair rollers cut in slices to put in the Roltap brayer. Of course I don’t know how easy it would be to put it in the little ends.

  10. I have one of those old templates that do that and I seldom used it. It’s still kicking around somewhere so maybe its time I dusted it off and used it again. I think I was recovering from brain surgery when I bought it and the timing was not right to use something like that!!!! Thanks for another inspirational idea!

  11. Never saw lattice before, love it! Thanks for the easy tutorial and all your helpful hints. Can’t wait to see where your creative brain goes in finding a substitute for the roltap.

  12. Thanks for sharing these techniques. I can’t wait to try the lattice card. Does it make a difference what size card you use it on? Is an A2 card too small and would you have to change the 1″ measurement? Thanks.
