Find the Freebie week 2

It’s Thursday again and time to see what the Lindsay’s Stamp Stuff design team has been up to! I grabbed this weeks sketch over at 2Sketches4you as the inspiration for my card:

I used the Cool Girl card kit and the brand new Cupcake Tree Digital stamp colored with Bic Mark-its. I cut my stamp out with my cricut (accent essentials cart) and then cut the same shape 1/2″ smaller and used that to emboss it so I would have a “nestabilty” look without the price! See yesterdays post to read how I did it. Here are a few of the new stamps in the shop this week:

2Sketches4u and Fabulous Prizes & Freebies!

Have you heard of the 2sketches4u blog yet? Well it’s pretty cool, every week they post 2 card sketches for you to do and then they pick a winner and they get an awesome prize. This week the challenge is sponsored by Creative Cuts and More! The winner will get a $20 gift certificate to the shop and let me tell you $20 goes a long way in die cuts! I don’t often use sketches because I’m afraid that I either following the sketch too close (just copying) or I’m way off with my ‘devil-may-care’ cardmaking style…what is sketch etiquette anyway? But for fun I thought I’d try, It was fun, here are my attempts:

This is my attempt of sketch #1. The girl is from a free font called Pucca club, you can get a link to that and my free Cricut cutting flies below.

I did this for the second sketch. Again I used a cute Pucca girl for my focal point and a sentiment from Inque boutique (Perfectly Paisley set), dragonfly is from Cricut

Why don’t you try too? It could win you $20 in free die cuts! Speaking of free I have some freebies to share. I made cutting files for the Kimono card:

Get the Kimono card SVG file here (I used this file for my card), you can cut this with your cricut using SCAL software.

Get a Design Studio version made with the George cartridge here, it’s a bit different but the same idea.

Download a printable template here, it’s my first time making a pdf file and I didn’t add any text so when you print it you may want to write “Kimono card template” on it so you will remember what the heck it is!

Do you like the cute little Asian girls on the card? Guess what, it’s not a stamp, it’s a free font called Pucca and you can snag it for free here. Grab the word document I made to print my images here (you must also download the font to view it)

I laid out a 2 sheets of the images in Word and printed on cardstock and colored them with Bic Mark its. Ink Jet Printer ink is water/dye based so I knew that I could use solvent based makers on them and the colors would not run. You could also use Sharpies, Copics or Prismacolor markers to color them but I love the inexpensive Mark Its! To get a Copic-like effect start with light colors first and add slightly darker colors to shade around the edges. Easy Peasy! I trimmed my “girls” with my creative Memories circle cutter.

The real stamps I used on the card are by Personal Stamp Exchange (Asian Images) and Inque Boutique/Darice (sentiment). The PSX stamps were some of the first clear stamp ever made and IMHO some of the best. That company is now out of business but I still use their stamps regularly!

I hope you enjoyed the cards and the freebies and I do hope you chek out the 2sketches4u blog and play along too! Till next time happy crafting!

You’re The Man card and markers on sale!

Hi there, here is another card I did using Bic Mark-Its and a Prismacolor blender to get the look of Copics. If you want to read my faux Copic tutorials you can check them out here and here. I just got my Jerry’s Artarama catalogue in the mail yesterday and their Prismacolor markers are on sale for $2 each! If you don’t already have a colorless blender now is a good time to grab one since they are $4+ in stores! Also I have a $10 off coupon code: JAJB082 (not sure if it’s an “o” or a zero) and it good on ANY size order! A nice chance to stock up on some pastel shades or colors where you want a nice fine tip or a good wide one. So here is the card I made, I’m a girly-girl so manly cards do not come easily!

Inkadinkado, Studio G
a 10 minute card with bic Mark-Its. Stamps: Inkadinkado, Studio G

Yes, those are pink tagger tails on the card, their all I had, gimme a break will ya! Word to the wise, make sure you don’t do what I did and punch your taggertails through the back of the card or it will not open…one of those days. Keep crafting and enjoy the sale!

2 Tips: I used my Sizzix Gelly-o dies to make the bookplate out of a scrap of mat board. Ask your local framer if you can have some scraps and you can make custom chipboard embellishment with you Sizzix, big shot or other old fashioned die cut machine! Also I cut the Thank You stamp apart so it would fit in the frame.

PS if you are in the central Maine area on September 6 2008 check out my sister’s shop: Bry-ann’s Art’s and Crafts rt. 202 Lakeview Drive in China Maine 968-2498. She will have the entire store on sale 40% off the entire day! She has the brand spanking new BoBunny fall and winter papers in (she is waiting for the sale to get them out!) plus new Core’denations (spelling yikes!) card stock plus yarn, fabric, Windsor & Newtons full line of artists paints, tole painting supplies and more. If you are local don’t miss this sale! There, now you have had you fill of daily propaganda!

“Copic” Marker Technique

I sure have been hearing a lot about copic markers lately. Copics are a solvent based marker similar to a sharpie and available in a myriad of colors. I saw a you tube video where a lady made a card using Bic Mark-It markers (also solvent based) for the same effect. I just so happened to have the set of 36 Bic Mark-It markers so I gave it a try. I bought these to write on slick surfaces like plastic or metal. I always just used water based markers or watercolors for paper. The Markits have an advantage though, they blend, they don’t leave streaks or “lines” in your work and they are not water based so they won’t warp your paper and you can use them over water-based die ink stamped images w/o them smearing the ink underneath. I used a clear dollar stamp from JoAnns, stampin Up Basic Black ink and the Mark-Its. Work one section at a time. First color the dog’s body light yellow brown. Add more of the same color where you want more depth. Add a darker brown to the edges for a shadow. Continue in the same fashion for the rest of the card. Have a great weekend!
