As many of you know I lost my sister-in-law to cancer this week. She was a remarkable, amazing woman. For the memorial service this weekend her husband asked me to type up and frame a poem she had written down in one of her notebooks. I am not sure who the original author is so I can’t credit them but it is an inspirational poem and I hope it gives comfort to anyone coping with cancer:
Wands was a wonderful seamstress, she loved to make crazy quilts so i stamped a mat with lots of vintage sewing stuff and added stitches like she did on her quilts. I wanted some softness around the words so I stamped flowers (she was also a talented gardener) with clear ink then dabbed chalk on with a cotton ball around the verse.
I love the encouragement and hope in that poem.
Well, I did take a few photos of my desk today while I was working on the frame (I’m sure Wanda was up in heaven laughing at me as I tripped over binders of stamps while making this!) There are also a few gifts hiding in the piles but I don’t think anyone can tell what they are going to be…yes, I am still making my Christmas gifts. It is good to be busy right now.
I want to wish everyone a merry Christmas, enjoy what you have and more importantly who you have in your life and til next time happy crafting.
What Cancer Cannot Do
Cancer is so limited…
It cannot cripple love.
It cannot shatter hope.
It cannot corrode faith.
It cannot destroy peace.
It cannot kill friendship.
It cannot suppress memories.
It cannot silence courage.
It cannot steal eternal life.
It cannot conquer the SPIRIT!
In a few words, one of your best post ever!

Wow! This is the quote I saw in the CA Care Center while waiting for hubby’s testing to complete sometime last year. I jotted it down and created a layout including this on my page just last month. Why, you may ask? My hubby is currently battling this vicious disease.
So sorry to hear about your sister! What a cruel disease! Thoughts are with you.

I am so, so sorry for your loss. I lose my Auntie last year – after she battled hard for 5 years against the breast cancer that eventually took over her body and mind. The hurt gets easier to bear with time, but you’ll never stop missing her! I think of my Aunt every time I see a dill pickle (that’s what she loved to eat all the time after the chemo altered her sense of taste) or see a chic flick or when Fridays come – as every Friday we had lunch and then did some girl stuff! Even when she was in chemo, i would bring lunch up and we would have it together there. People you you love are always with you – whether they are physically here or spiritually here. 🙂 You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Oh Lindsay, that is gorgeous… I adore that poem and put it in a card I made for a friend who was undergoing cancer treatment last year. I can’t remember where I found it – floating around on the Internet somewhere, I’ve no doubt! It is so inspiring, and I love what you have done with it, with all the lovely sewing stuff, and what an unusual frame, too.
Thinking of you all in your loss.

Lindsay, I’m so sorry for your loss. The time of year makes it that much sadder. I’m sure that you took great comfort from making the framed tribute. I know that I did when I made memory journals for my sibs after we lost our sister. You did a beautiful job. Prayers and hugs to you….

Thanks for your visit and lovely comment, Lindsay. Continuing to think of you all. Thanks for the info about the bake and bend clay – I’ll have to look out for that. I’ve got quite a big tub of silicone molding stuff which should keep me going for a while, though.

Lindsay, so sorry about your sis in law… i lost my sister 2 years ago to c also (she only found out she had it almost 3 weeks before she passed, and worked until 2 or 3 days before she left. I have still not recovered from it, I think because only a couple of people knew, she was such a private person, so getting a phone call saying she was gone, I still cant deal with it. anyway, sorry for your loss. 😥 ❤
