Supplies for today’s tutorial: (affiliate links used)
- Caran d’Aache Neocolor 2 15 color set: Blick or Amazon
- Pan Pastels: (20 painting color set recommended) *not needed for class
- Derwent Pastel pencil in white *not needed for class
- White gel pen *not needed for class
- Surface: Mat board scrap coated with clear gesso
- Reference photo
Watercolor crayon alternatives (I recommend the set of 30 Caran d’Ache Neocolor 2 watercolor crayon set but you may already have other products in your stash that will work well too!)
- Caran d’Ache swisscolor set if 15 half sticks
- Lyra Aquacolor crayons *If buying new products for the class I would pick the Caran d’Ache or Lyra crayons for the best results.
- These products will work well with the techniques from class but will be a bit different: Crayola Portfolio water soluble oil pastels, Mungyo/Prima/Hashi water soluble oil pastels, Gel crayons or Gelatos
Paper recommendations:
- I prefer a paper with a bit of tooth but other people prefer a smooth paper, Canson MiTintes is double-sided so you can try both a smooth or rough side to see what you like. Because of that, I recommend that paper first. The assortment pads are nice.
- Canson XL pastel paper
- Strathmore Art Again (recycled and budget-friendly)
- Matboard scraps (if you have them)
- Any watercolor paper
- Fabriano Tiziano
- Strathmore Mixed Media paper (I prefer the toned tan) is very smooth and nice if you like to add markers to your work.
