Hi friends! Today we are going to have fun making a card with mixed media techniques and you have a chance to win the stamps I used today from Art Neko. Simply leave a comment on this post and I will randomly draw a winner in a week. This contest is open to all residents of the world:) Also Art Neko has a deal for all my blog readers: Save 10% off your next order of any size or get free shipping on orders over $50 (whichever discount is greater you get!) just by mentioning thefrugalcrafter!
It was brought to my attention that in my Distress Crayon Review & Comparison video I focused too much on what the Distress Crayons don’t do well so today I will show you what they do very well, act as a resist for Distress ink. We will also play with mica powers and gelatos too in today’s Stamp School video!
Video!
Supplies:
- Stamps (Art Neko) Dragonfly Collage & Dragonfly Trio, Script
- Embossing Folder (Cuttlebug)
- Black Cardstock
- Watercolor Paper
- Distress Crayons Set 1 and set 2
- Metallic Gelatos
- Metallic Thread
- Dragonfly Eyelets (Eyelet outlet)
- Pearl ex , Perfect pearls or any mica powder
- Distress ink
Now it’s your turn! Try these techniques on your next card! Before you go make sure to leave a comment for a chance to win the beautiful stamps I used from our sponsor Art Neko! Thanks for stopping by and til next time happy crafting!

Beautiful as always! I need to do more mixed media and I need to use my Distress Inks more so may well give this a go and maybe make a card or a canvas panel out of it. Somehow I only just learned how to frame the latter, which has encouraged me to use them!

That came out incredible. I love the mixed media. The distress crayons react differently with the collage mediums such as vintage, crazing, and matte which came out at CHA with the distress crayons. Another way to use them perhaps? I do love this project and the stamp is divine!

I really like that metallic look you gave that panel! I remember you mentioned in another video about how the color could be in the binding material and maybe that’s the case I think with dollar store eye shadow. They dye the binding and add the mica as a little extra sparkle, maybe. Anyway, really enjoyed your video and the stamps are really neat!

Lyndsey, sometimes we crafters need to know what a product won’t do. Please don’t feel bad about telling us. There is nothing more frustrating than using our time and supplies to find that the technique didn’t work. Sometimes those mistakes are happy accidents and sometimes just train wrecks! What your fans appreciate about you is your honesty. You give us the good and the bad. That isn’t negative; it’s helpful.

Oh my gosh, I love that stamp and the card you created with it. I have learned so much from watching you.
I got rid of ALL my craft supplies last year as I was having difficulty using my hands due to the injury I received after I was rear-ended.
After surgery and lots of physical therapy, I’ve been bit by the creative bug again! I live in a little one bedroom apartment but I made a space for a craft area with a dedicated 3’x6′ shelf I bought.
I’ve been collecting supplies here and there and I have been able to create several projects that I’ve been happy with.
You were so brave painting the couch but it turned out great.

I was wondering where else I might go to pick up the embossing folder you used in this card. I went to the link you had for it but that particular folder was nowhere to be seen. Perhaps I overlooked it somehow…Thank you for all you do, Lindsay. I really appreciate all you do in showing us comparisons and how to’s. 🙂

I’m not sure the TH distress crayons will be at the top of my have-to-have-it list, but I was super impressed with the metallic gelato panel and the background on the black card. You get extra kudos from me because it WASN’T a butterfly. Am I the only one tired of butterflies? 😉 That’s a lot of techniques squeezed into one card, which is very helpful to see. I’m a big fan of metallic thread, too, so you’ve got another winner in my opinion!

Hi Lindsay,
Another great video and I loved the finished card! I’m not too sure if I can enter your competition living on the other side of ‘the pond’ as I do. I would love to be considered for the prize though as I find it VERY difficult to find Art Neko stamps where I live down in the far south west of the UK and would love to have the chance to own and use some.
I had my sister staying with me last week and I have to say that she thinks my papercrafting hobby is a waste of time and money…however…she watched your distress crayon comparrison video with me and was really interested, in fact, she gave you a thumbs up on it…praise indeed lol.
