…and then I gave up and cleaned the ‘fridge.

Hi friends! Is there something in the air the last couple of days? Is there some big Muse Convention stealing away my creativity? Full moon maybe? I love making bookmarks, I usually find them fun and carefree to make. Fun and carefree go right out the window when your laminator decides to eat them. The other title of this blog post was going to be “The Laminator Ate My Homework.” Mamma said there’d be days like this…well, not exactly like this but you get the point…

Video!

I hope you learned something or at least got a laugh:) If I ever felt the need to apologies for a video, this would be the one.

Supplies:

  • Large Shipping tags
  • Wizard of OZ Stamps by Carmens Veranda and Lost Coast Designs
  • Tree background stamp
  • Stencil (A moldy oldie from Club Scrap)
  • Fibers (that’s just fancy yarn)
  • Hole punch
  • Laminator or contact paper or packing tape is desired
  • paper for backing the tag if you like

In case you were wondering I did call it a day after this video and I went upstairs and cleaned the fridge, then I went to the grocery store and filled the clean fridge. After all I can’t be a slacker housewife and a slacker artist all in the same day:) If you were in a creative funk I hope it has passed! Thankfully mine did, til next time happy crafting!

Follow the yellow brick road…

EDIT: I forgot to post the printable sheet of Dolly Parton Quotes, you can download or print it directly here.

Happy Friday Folks! Well, I had plans of making a tofu scramble for dinner tonight but I was overruled 4 to 1 so I grabbed a pizza and we plunked in the living room and watched Once Upon a Time while we enjoyed takeout. They has pizza and I had a veggie Italian (and french fries…I’m a vegetarian, not a saint LOL!) I love how they are bringing OZ into story-line, I also love that it is a show I want to watch with my children and not some show with obnoxious teenagers in it LOL! Anyway, this recent TV show has inspired this card:

DCF 1.0

Wizard of OZ stamps: Lost coast designs, Quote: Dolly Parton

I used the Wizard of OZ stamps from Lost Coast Designs that feature the precious illustrations from the original book. I did not use many supplies for this card and I bet you can make do with what you have too to make something like it! Watch the video for tips and hints on masking, embossing and coloring!

I hope that tutorial inspired you to dig out some of your older supplies and show them some love. Thanks for stopping by and til next time happy crafting!

Make your own Metallic Watercolors!

Howdy! This is cool. Did you know you can make your own metallic watercolors on the cheap? Well you can! I was at the “Dollar Tree” on Saturday and found metallic tempera paint by Prang. It came in 9 colors and of course I got them all (a buck each, can you blame me?) You can use any metallic tempera or poster paint but not acrylic because when acrylic paint dries it goes through a chemical chance and cannot be turned into paint again. Squeeze the paint into a plastic palette, muffin tin or tackle box. Anything with compartments will work and if it has a lid bonus! Let it dry so you have little cakes of color. The paint will shrink to about 1/3 due to the water content of the paint. Then to use simply dip a wet paint brush in the dry paint and you are good to go! You can paint on a rubber stamp before stamping, color in a stamped image with the paint or brush some paint around the edges of a card as I did here:

Now you are probably thinking “Why Bother?” I can leave the paint in the bottle and squirt it when i need it. True you can but the paint contains a lot of water and if you let it dry and use a wet brush to bring it back you control how much water is in the paint and how bright and shiny it will be plus it is a whole lot easier to tote a small palette to a crop rather than 9 bottles of paint! If you want to be really frugal just by the white pearl color and mix it with whatever watercolor you have to make your own custom colors! Have fun & Happy Crafting!
