Edited to add a photo of the final painting. Have a safe Memorial Day weekend!

Hi friends! We are going to have our first hot summer like day today in Maine and I am so excited! My husband suggested that I paint watermelon (see what a good idea it was to put him on the payroll!) and I thought it was a fine idea! I am going to show you how to use plastic wrap to create the crisp and icy texture of watermelon flesh but there is some drying time involved. I will show the entire demo in the live stream today but I have prepared another piece of paper that will be dry by then so after I show the plastic wrap technique I will have the dried version to continue on with. If you want to paint live with me you will also want to prepare your paper to that point. As always the replay will be available so you can follow along later and pause while things dry.

The first thing you want to do is transfer the pattern (or freehand the picture) on to your watercolor paper.

Then wet one of the slices with clear water and add in rose-red.

Then drop in a smidgen of yellow ocher here and there and outline the rind with sap green. You may need to blot out some white between the rind and the red flesh.

Then place a piece of plastic wrap on the wet paint and scrunch it if needed to make a texture like this. Let this try. You can remove it before it’s totally dry if you want a softer texture or let it dry with the plastic on it for a crisper texture. You can also weight it down and leave it overnight if you wanted a super dramatic texture but that is not necessary for this. You want to repeat these steps for every slice of watermelon in the picture, refer to the first photo in this post as a guide.

Juicy…Watermelon!

Nothing says summer like a juicy slice of ice-cold watermelon, I used my Strawberries and Watermelon digital stamp set from Lindsay’s stamp Stuff to make this card:

Stamps: Lindsay's Stamp Stuff, Cardstock: Neenah (white), Kraft (SU!, The Paper Co), Tab: JoAnns, Markers: Copic

The stamps in the Strawberry and Watermelon set are perfect for coloring, and easy too, large open areas and plenty of detail, you can easily use them for cards, decor or scrapbook pages, these cards too minutes to make (I colored the images previously while watching TV:)

These cards qualify for the following challenges: Bunny Zoe’s Crafts, By the Cute and Girly, Crafty Catz, Crafty Creations, (Summer) and Color Throw Down.

Here is a look at the Strawberries and Watermelon set:

7 highly detailed stamps for $5!

And now here is the freebie (I am still in a vintage kick) Sorry there is not a proper preview (I’m running a bit late today) so just click the image to get the large size and right-click to save.

Now let’s see what the rest of the DT has for us today, please help us bid a fond farewell to Rebekah Doak, she has delighted up with her work the past 6 months, thanks girl, don’t be a stranger 🙂

More melon!

Happy Sunday! We spent the morning strawberry picking, the pickens were slim but we managed to get 4 quarts so I have plenty to make a pie or two and a batch of Jam, I’m not much of a cook but Jam I excel at! Speaking of strawberries I used my ne Strawberries and Watermelon digital stamp set to make this card (with a matching envie of course!)

I cleaned up my scrap pile for this card, the chipboard tag and slide were from a colorbok pack I got ages ago and the paper on the envie is from GSD (I think). I colored the image with copics, a quick and easy card!

I cut the cute ruler strip for a piece of pattern paper from the Inch By Inch collection from Lettering Delights, isn’t is sweet? I simply use a sheet of 8″ square pattern paper to make an envelope with my score pal to fit the card. I think the card and envie took 20 minutes to make, not counting the coloring because I like to color a bunch of digis in the evening while I watch TV 🙂

Reminder: Two cool sales are ending tonight! Summer products are $1 at Lettering Delights AND the Retirement sale at MyGrafico, all retired products are $1 until midnight and then they are gone so don’t wait!

This card qualifies for the following challenges: Crafty Catz (digital), Delightful Sketches (summer), Digi Doodle (anything goes),  Doodle Palace (red, green, white & summer), Handful of Stamps (summer), Little Paper Shop (bright & colorful), and Scrappekammeret (Love.)

Thanks for stopping by and til next time happy crafting!

Strawberries, Watermelons and a freebie!

Happy Thursday folks! What a week, rain, fog and humidity, I was so hoping to get out and pick strawberries but I guess this card will have to suffice:

Template (envelope bonanza), Digital Stamps (Strawberries & Watermelon) both from Lindsay's Stamp Stuff

I used my new Strawberries and Watermelon set to make this card, I printed the berry basket on Neenah and colored it with Copics. The decorative edge was done with a SU punch (love how it goes around corners, it is seriously one of the only 2 edge punches I own, are you sick of seeing it yet?)  I used My Envelope Bonanza set to cut the petal envelope using SCAL software and my Cricut, Easy Peasy! This card qualifies for the following challenges: ABC, Annebelle Stamps (pink & Green), Bee crafty (pink & girly), Bunny Zoe’s Crafts (girly), Cupcake Craft Challenges (strawberries & cream), Everybody Art Challenge (pink & green) and Little C’s (photo inspiration).

The background paper is from the inch by inch collection at Lettering Delights. It is so summery! Here is a look at the complete Strawberries and Watermelon digital stamp set:

You get 7 highly detailed digital stamps for $5! Perfect for summer!

Now for the freebie, There was a discussion at MyGrafico on where to find the popular shipping tags the Tim Holtz uses and I explained how to make some from manilla folders (incase you did not want to buy a bulk box of 1,000) and I thought, Hey, why not make a SVG file so we can cut them with our Cricuts and SCAL software! In the example I have glued on the hole re-enforcers but I recommend inking and decorating the tag first then gluing on the re-enforcers so it looks neater 😉 Click the picture to download.

Enjoy this handy freebie, it's the perfect project for a scal/cricut newbie 🙂
