Pandora Style Paper Beads!

Howdy folks! I have been playing with the idea of making Pandora style paper beads. I had bought some metal bead cores (you can get a pack of 500 for less than $5 with free shipping on Ebay) and made some glass beads but when you get many of them on a bracelet it can get quite heavy.  So why not paper? Here is a bracelet I made with the beads I made:

It was a joy to wear too, I love the sound the beads make with they move and the bracelet is so light! The beads don’t really take all that long to make either. I do the assembly line style: roll a bunch, glaze a bunch and glue in the bead cores. Here is a video to show you how:

See it was easy! I used ultra thick embossing enamel (UTEE) to glaze mine but you can use clear embossing powder as well, it might take an extra coat or two but that’s no big deal. I found a size 9 (5.5mm) knitting needle is perfect if you are using cardstock or thicker scrapbook paper but if you are using book pages or magazines go up to a size 10 (6mm) knitting needle. Also if you are using thinner paper you will need 3-4 strips rather than the 2 I used. If you can’t find bead cores you can use sewing or scrapbooking eyelets. Bead cores are cheaper overseas through the seller 8 Seasons ebay though. If you have any questions on this project or just want to let me know what you think you can leave a comment below. My First Crack at Pandora Style Beads…

I remember the first time I saw a Trollbead, it was at the Grasshopper shop and it was lovely…the price, however, was not. I have a new-found respect for these stunning beads since I started lampworking glass last month, by golly making an even round bead is hard! It is also hard to make 2 beads exactly the same size for earrings, here was my first attempt at both a Pandora type bead and identical earring beads:

What do you think? I did not have proper bead cores so I used scrapbooking and sewing eyelets, looks pretty good I think:)

I wore the necklace a couple of times but it is too symmetrical ..or something, it just ain’t right. I will be pulling it apart and trying again, maybe it’s the ribbon, I’m not sure…it just is not working for me, any ideas?

Well, I best boogie, I volunteered to decorate for the Cub Scouts Blue and Gold banquet tonight and then I am taking one of my best friends out for lunch for her birthday and I still need to slap on some war paint before I leave 😛 Thanks for stopping by and til next time happy crafting!

WOYWW: One Hot Mess!

So this week I took my What’s on Your Workdesk Wednesday photo BEFORE I tidied up….

DCF 1.0

Honestly, it does not look much better now LOL! I have been experimenting with glass and clay this week and I am teaching a quilling class tomorrow so I have my bins of quilling strips in the upper right corner. I will be filming a candle making tutorial and I have the supplies for that in a tray next to the quilling stuff. I pulled my clay drawer out of its chest because the drawers of molds, tools and other clay paraphernalia were so full that they would not open so a major clay reorganization project is in store for me this week, it has never been properly organized, I just seem to add to the stash…we all know how that goes! I have a box of eyelets out because I was making some Pandora style beads with glass and clay and I couldn’t wait to get proper bead cores but as far as I can see eyelets are just about the same thing. After I took this photo I went back to my torch to make another bead and the torch would not ignite  I just replaced the gas tank and I was using it hours earlier so I have no idea what is wrong  I can hear the gas hiss out but no spark…I wonder if I can light it with my long reach lighter…I’m kinda scared to though. I hoping it will work itself out and the next time I try it will light…a girl can dream 🙂
