“Owl” make a fun card for you today! {Stamp School}

Hi friends! Today I am going to show you how you can stamps as pattern for painting with acrylics. This is really useful because you can extend an image to fit a shape or in this case a die.

I had always loved this gothic arch die set that I got ages ago in the bargain bin at a stamp show but the challenge came in finding stamps that filled the space well. Nothing ever seemed to fit right and the shape looked awkward on a card. I thought this owl and castle stamp would be perfect with this theme so I decided to make it work and ll show you how in today’s video! BTW if you don’t have a gothic arch die simply fold a piece of paper in half and draw half an arch and cut it out, open it up and you have a template to trace. Easy peasy!

How fun would this be as an invitation to a Halloween or Harry Potter themed birthday party? Tutorial sponsored by Top Flight Stamps! Use coupon code thefrugalcrafter10 to save 10% on your order!

A viewer on YouTube asked if he could use gouache instead of acrylics and yes, you sure can! When in doubt, try it out (it’s only a piece of paper after all!) I hope this project got you thinking about new ways to build cards and use your stamps! Let me know what you think of this project in the comments below and if you liked it please share it with a friend or pin it on Pinterest, there are handy sharing buttons below this post:) Happy crafting!

Stamp School #8! Scoring, Reinking and using a Stamp Positioner!

Hi friends! Today in stamp school I will answer some of your questions and show you some basics that we have not covered yet:

  1. How to Re-ink an inkpad.
  2. How to score cardstock before folding.
  3. How to use a stamp positioner and how to make one with Legos!
  4. 4. How to draw a banner and sentiment.

Video! We will also color a sock monkey, yay!

Let me know if you have any questions you would like answered in stamp school, I can’t believe we have completed 8 weeks so far. I plan on branching out with now other supplies so you can see if they are something you want to add, like embossing powder, regular colored pencils and alcohol markers. I will also give options for the materials we have been using as well. Let me know if you have any suggestions! Happy crafting!

My friend made this cool tool!

Hi Friends! My friend Jody made a really cool stamp positioner that rivals a certain store bought one that costs over $50! the best part is that she made it in minutes using supplies you probably have or could get easily at Hallmark Scrapbook. Watch her video to see how! Video! Regardless on whether you want to make this tool or not I think the clear DVD cases they sell at Hallmark would be great for storing stamp sets of colored pencils/pens for crafting on the go! Did you like the stamps she used? I have that set of Vintage Roses Layering Stamps coming my way so look for tutorials coming soon (and they are in stock if you want to stamp along, yay!) Thanks Jody for giving me permission to share your video with my frugal crafty friends and that you for stopping by and til next time happy crafting!

Tip: To save money on cards and envelopes wait until the large craft stores (Joann, ACmoore and probably the other ones too) put their packs of 50 5″x7″ card/envelope packs on sale. They come in white, cream and kraft and go on sale for $5 several times a year, especially around Christmas. You can get a card base and envelope for 10 cents and no cutting! They are not the thickest cards out there but they are perfect for this technique!

By masking I give the illusion of depth. Notice how the circle in the center seems to be on top? Neat huh? Watch the video to see how it is done!

Mistakes happen! Check this out, it is my favorite card because of a mistake I made while masking.

Notice the ginkgo branch in front of the center circle, I forgot to mask the circle when I started to stamp! So I grabbed my colored pencils and colored it so it looks like it is there on purpose! Shhhhh…don’t tell anyone. 😀 I hope you give this easy card a try. Sometimes it is good to get back to our stamping roots and revisit old techniques. Have a great weekend and til next time happy crafting!
