Hi friends! Please join me for a fun painting tutorial today at 12:30pm Eastern Time on YouTube!12:30pm Eastern Time on YouTube! We will be painting this. Here is a traceable pattern.
Here is the reference photo:
You can watch the live stream or the replay in the player below but if you want to chat live with fellow painters or ask me questions while we paint be sure to watch on the YouTube watch page.
Supplies (Amazon Affiliate Links Used)
- Mission Gold Watercolors: I am using the Perfect Pan set of 24 because the palette is compact and fits on-screen, but this set of 36 is a better deal *BTW I just ordered this set and will review it soon! I also have and recommend the 24 pure pigment set before, I think it is the best value because you have all single pigment tubes (larger tubes than in the 36 set) and you can mix all of the colors in the 36 set from this set I believe. It is more expensive because you are getting more paint and it is a bit heavy on the red/pinks so it is better for flower/still life painters as opposed to landscape artists. You really can’t go wrong with any Mission Gold paints but a little goes a long way so just pick the set that meets your needs (you don’t need them all LOL!)
- 140# Arches Watercolor paper CP I am working 9″x12″ size and I tear my paper down from large sheets. I just saw this pack of 10 22″x30″ sheets on Amazon for $27.99 and I have never seen this paper at low! *I buy full sheet watercolor paper, tear down a couple of sheets at a time and store the paper in the shipping box under my bed FYI:)
- Brushes: For beginners I recommend Royal Majestic, this 5 peice set is a good assortment and cover most anything you want to paint. The bristles have more snap and hold less water which makes working with student grade paints easier as well, they are an excellent value! If you are more advanced I recommend the Mimik Synthetic Squirrel Watercolor Brushes as they hold a TON of water and paint and are a great deal!
- White gel pen (Uniball Signo)

Hi friends! Today I have a project that can be done in acrylics, oils or gouache.
I think I might want to do this one in watercolor too, well the pot anyway, maybe with a cup of tea and a pastry! Let me know what you think about that in the comments but for now here is the video tutorial!
This was the first time I tried Aqyla paint. I have a viewer request a review of it and I will have one for you this weekend. I needed to try a few techniques and experiments with it before I gave my final opinion. The set of 18 colors they sent me sells for $46 and every tube contains the pigment number. It acts like an acrylic but is easier to blend. Technically it is an alkyd resin. You can find out more about Aqyla here. They also gave me a coupon code for my viewers to save 10%: thefrugalcrafter This is not a sponsored post but they did send me the paint for free for review purposes.
I am working on an 11″x14 canvas, my sketch was done in a watercolor pencil:) I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and you give it a try yourself! BTW there will be a live show tomorrow at 12:30pm ET, hope to see you there! Thanks for stopping by and til next time happy crafting!

Howdy friends! It’s been a crazy week, the kids are on break so there have been sleepovers, softball practice and lazing around. The weather was so nice yesterday that my son and I took the kayaks out! We also had the water well pump bite the dust after 40 years of faithful service so I had a repair man in yesterday to replace the pump, boy, running water is something you take for granted until you don’t have it and then it is the most important thing! I am feeling so thankful:) This is what we will be painting today at 12:30pm Eastern Time(I must have water on the brain LOL!)
Sarah will be in taking your questions during the live stream as usual so it will be a fun and informative class. You can watch it live (or the replay) in the player below but if you want to chat with friends watch it on the YouTube watch page.

Hi friends! Earlier on Instagram I asked if I should keep this painting tutorial (which ended up taking longer than I thought) full length or if I should speed it up.
The vote was unanimous to keep the tutorial long and in real-time with live narration. Well, you have been warned LOL! So, grab your watercolors and paint along with me!
Watercolor (I am using Gansai Tambi)
Watercolor Pencils (Prima)
Watercolor paper (140# 5″x7″ Strathmore watercolor greeting card)
Masking tape, Paper towel
#6 Cat’s Tongue brush (or you can use round) Princeton
Do you think you will try this? I hope so! I was really pleased that you wanted me to keep the tutorial long, I want to be respectful of your time but art takes time and you deserve to spend time doing something you enjoy (every day if possible!) Thanks so much for painting with me today and til next time happy crafting!
