Easy Painting Project!

Have you ever thought about learing to watercolor? Spring and summer is the perfect time to be outdoors and watercolors are so easy to bring with you so you can paint on the go. This Coastal Landscape lesson is the easiest one I have created AND it teaches you techniques you can use to paint any landscape you like.

All of my Learn To Paint with Lindsay beginner lessons use the same 3 brushes: a 1/2″ (#12) flat, a 1″ flat and a #6 round. I limit the beginner projects to these 3 brushes so you don’t have a to spend a fortune to get started. In the future when I add the Intermediate lessons to the shop I may add a couple of brushes BUT we will still be using the same 8 colors I recommend in the basic supply list.  My goal is to teach you how to paint and use your tools, I’m not selling paint or brushes:) What a drag it would be to have to buy a new tube of paint or brush every time you went to start a project! My goal is also to have you painting independently so you can paint whatever you like and you are not dependent on buying a lesson each time you want to paint (although I’ll try to keep challenging you with new techniques to build your skills!)

So, if you are looking for a relaxing painting project please have a look at all of the beginner watercolor projects available at Lindsay’s Stamp Stuff:

Feels like Summer!

The sun was out and it was 72 degrees yesterday! I had all the windows open in the house and my watercolors out. This is what I made:

Would like to paint this too? It was very easy and it uses a few fun (they look hard but are easy as pie) techniques. You can get all of the instructions with step by step photos and pattern in the Learn to Paint with Lindsay Kit: Watermelon!

 Learn to Paint: Watermelon!

If you ever wanted to try painting but thought it would be frustrating or time consuming to learn please try my kits. I have 15 year experience teaching watercolor and I break it down into simple steps that anyone can do. Each kit teaches new techniques while reviewing others. You build confidence with each lesson you complete. The first kit in the series Learn to Paint with Lindsay: Birch Trees is on sale for $1 so you can try with little risk to see if it is for you. I hope you will learn to paint with me! Here are the other kits in this series (so far!)

Watercolor Basics {video}

First off I have to say “Thank You!” To all of the folks who purchase my first ever painting kit! I am so honored that you will allow me to teach you. I have been busy today designing another beginner painting packet that I hope you will enjoy: Learn To Paint Pussy Willows, isn’t it so springy? Well, it’s what spring looks like here in Maine, brown, gray and white:

I decided to make a video explaining the basic watercolor supplies and a few basic techniques. I’m sorry it is so long, when I looked at the clock during filming I nearly fell over, it is almost a half an hour…as my husband would say, watching it take a commitment LOL! So you might want to grab a beverage and get comfy 😛

Here is the basic supply list I mentioned in the video, you can print it out and take it to the store with you.

I still have the Introductory special on the Learn to Paint Birch Trees project going on ($1) so if you are curious about this series of lessons you can try for a buck, not much of a risk if you ask me 🙂

Video Tutorail: Coffee Filter Flowers!

Howdy folks! I love paper flowers, they are as much fin to make as they are to use! Here is a card I made today using a flower made from a coffee filter:

Huh, I always seem to craft with bright colors on rainy days…I just realized that LOL! The paper I used is from MME and the stamp is from Purple Onion Designs. Check out this quick video to see how to make the flower from a coffee filter:

Here are the steps written out:

1. Cut a round coffee filter into a spiral. You can cut several at once because they are so thin.

2. Spray with ink or paint with watercolors and let dry.

3. Starting with the outside of edge of the filter, roll the filter up to make a flower fluffing and shaping as you twirl.

Hope you give this a try, it’s a cheap frill for your next card, tag or scrapbook page! Til next time happy crafting!

Need some quick Easter favors?

Howdy folks, just a quick post today to share a new template I created. It is a cute bunny shaped basket that can be crafted in minutes. The Bunny Basket kit comes with an SVG cutting file and a printable template. I think it would be fun to print off the bunny templates on white paper and let the kids decorate and cut them out. It is really that easy!

And of course our bunny has a “cotton tail” it would be cute to use a white pom-pom in place of the tail cutout, don’t you think?

You can grab the kit here at Lindsay’s stamp Stuff and be done way before Easter rolled around, ain’t it great to be early for a change 😀

The Softer Side of Stamping…

Boy, after weeks of rain we are being spoiled by wonderful warm sunny weather. That means more time outside and less time in my dungeon of a basement craftroom. Still, I need my daily crafting fix so I took a few minutes…7 to be exact and made this card and video so you can see how easy it is to squeeze a few minutes of stamping time in daily during the busy summer months.

Stamps: Large Butterfly, swirls (Tattered Angels), Text background (Stampfrancisco), Frame, sentiment, small butterfly (Papertrey ink)

This card only uses a few supplies, a half a sheet of cardstock, chalk pastels (AKA decorators chalk) and a couple of colors of ink, some stamps and a clear embossing ink pad or glycerin. See how easy it is to use clear ink and chalk to make the above card:

This card qualifies for the following challenges:  Cheerful Stamp Pad , DDH Challenges, Cards For Men, Incy Wincy Designs, KB Cute Monday , Make it Monday, Stamp with Fun, Stamps & Fun = Creativity, The Outlawz , Dream Valley Challenges, Allsorts, 2 Sisters, Inspire Me Fridays, and Flutterby Wednesdays

Perfectly Stamped Ribbon!

Another rainy spring day in the Northeast…talk about a broken record..all the more reason to stay inside and craft I guess! I wasn’t intending on making a video but I got to playing around with my Hug Snug Seambinding and rubber stamps and I had the best luck ever stamping on ribbon:

I used Hug snug seam binding in the color “Natural” from Sewtrue.com. I like the natural color because it has a lovely off-white vintage color to it but you can use whatever color you like. I set it on a foam mat (you can use a mouse pad or a sheet of fun-foam) and stamped the sentiment (Purple Onion Designs) repeatedly along the ribbon using Versafine Onyx Black pigment ink but any pigment ink should work. Let the ribbon dry a few minutes before using but don’t heat set it or it may curl up on you. Here is a video on making the ribbon and also coloring the focal image using the new Vivid Promarker blending kit:

That was so fun! BTW the Hug Snug Seambinding is also great for making Vintage crinkle ribbon, check out my tutorial here.  The colors I used on the scallops stamps (also from Purple Onion Designs) are More Mustard, Cameo Coral and Mellow Moss classic dye ink from Stampin Up and if you told be a week ago that those colors would be pretty together I would have suggested that you have your head examined but heck, I guess I was wrong (will wonders ever cease?)

This card qualifies for the following challenges: Crazy Challenge, Make it Monday, Simon Says Stamp and Show…, Emerald Faeries, Card Makin’ Mamas and Crafty Catz

Thanks for stopping by, I guess I will start on the big kitchen repaint project today,We have decided to paint the kitchen a deep cornflower blue (it is currently apple green) and I have to repaint the ceiling white (never done that before) so wish me luck! Til next time happy crafting!
