Win a signed copy of The Rainbow Pants!

Howdy friends! Yesterday Kelly Brooks Bay (the author of the Rainbow Pants) and I (the illustrious illustrator) had a book signing…a darn early book signing might I add.  The event was from 9-10am about 20 minutes away, no prob I thought, I’ll leave at about 8:35 and have plenty of time. Well, Kelly knows me all to well (Lindsay will be late and she won’t bring a pen) and offered to pick me up. The phone rings at the crack of dawn (AKA 6:50am) and I dive for it as not to wake up my husband of kids and it is Kelly letting me know what time she is picking me up:

“Hey Lindsay, it’s Kelly, we have to be there 30 minutes early so I’ll pick you up at 7:45”

“What? Seriously? You have got to be kidding.” Said the undercaffeinated illustrator.

“Ah, OK, well, I’m not sure where we are going but I’ll push it to 7…maybe a bit later.”

“Awesome!” I’m telling you, I have the temperamental artist act down pat! And look, here I am (rocking the cell-phone self portrait) at 7am sitting on my porch, drinking cup #3 and waiting for my ride:

And let the record show we had plenty of time! Unfortunately the harsh early morning sun (aka 8:35am) was not as flattering here:

The school we signed books at was so cute! It was a historic building with high tin ceilings and lots of sunlight. I love the farm mural in the background on this photo of Kelly reading The Rainbow Pants:

Look, We are rocking the hand held cell phone portrait.  I really need to become famous because I have this skill down…photos with fans, oh yes! Not sure what I’d become famous for though…I wonder if many illustrators get recognized walking down the street…probably not…oh well.

Sorry about the blurry pic here, I handed my phone to someone else to get this picture of us at the book signing table.

A 1st Place Float, a Book Signing and a Craft Fair Booth!

And that sums up my day! It was a wonderful Old Home Week event, or shall I say events, yesterday! The town showed up for the parade, it was covered by two news stations and my daughter’s girl scout troop won 1st place for their root beet float float!

After the parade the girls sold hundreds of root beer floats to raise money for their troop! We did much better than we expected, in fact  one of the moms had to run to the store twice for more ice cream and root beer! I did a lot of running that day because it was the release date for the book The Rainbow Pants written by Kelly Brooks Bay and illustrated by me! Here we are at the book release party signing books:

And here is my little craft fair booth, pretty much like it looked last time 😉 We had a pretty good day in sales, I sold 3 watercolor paintings, several bracelets, some earrings and a lot of cards! I had not sold any of my bracelets up until this fair so that was a relief! I hired my son to watch my booth while I was at the book signing and he handled it like a pro, he even made 3 sales, one of which was a painting! I think this is a great way to teach math, maybe next time I’ll put him on commission and teach him fractions LOL!

What there was my day in a nutshell. I hope to check out more of the Old Home Week events this week…wiffle ball tournament anyone? Til next time happy crafting!

WOYWW: Ask A Crafter {week 3!}

Hellooooo friends! It Wednesday so that means it’s time for What’s on Your Workdesk Wednesday over at the Stamping Ground. My desk, well, this is how it looked at 11pm last night when I closed up shop. I am in the middle of illustrating a children’s book.  I am hoping to have everything wrapped up this week and off to the publisher soon. I can’t wait to share some of the illustrations with you but for now here is the desk littered with my drafting tools and watercolor pencils and a mirror. Oh don’t forget the wine glass, I was working late last night, The beauty of being self-employed, don’t judge.

DCF 1.0

Also since it is Wednesday it is time for another episode (I’d say installment but episode is more me…look, there’s Lindsay having an episode LOL, see it fits!) of Ask a Crafter. I had another epic 3 pages of questions submitted by blog readers and YouTube viewers and I got to them all without my camera running out of juice. I’m golden this week I tell ya!

So, if YOU have a question just leave a comment and I will answer it on next weeks Ask a Crafter segment! If you want to see more crafty desks check out WOYWW at the Stamping Ground. Thanks for stopping by and til next time happy crafting!
