Paint a Purple Cupcake in Watercolor Pencils!

Howdy friends! The other day I shared this watercolor pencil painting I did in my sketchbook:

I had a few requests to do a tutorial so I thought I would for our beginner tutorial this week. I have been posting beginner (probably over explained but I just want to make sure even beginners can follow along) tutorials on Wednesdays and I hope they are useful:) Let me know if they are just too simple or if I hit the mark:)

Photo credit: thescranline. If you like baking check them out. Their Instagram account is fabulous! (I don’t bake so I follow their IG account for the pretty photos and they encourage fan art!)

Supplies: Affiliate links used. Watercolor pencils and paper from Arteza *Use coupon code FRUGAL10 for 10% off if shopping on the Arteza Website.

As always use whatever watercolor pencils (or watercolor crayons) you have to follow along. Heck try it in watercolor or regular colored pencils is you like. It’s your art and I want to inspire you to create with whatever you like! Thanks for stopping by and til next time happy crafting!

Have a Cupcake & News to Share!

Hi friends! Is there anything cuter than a cupcake? I think I need to do a pastry painting series because I think painting them is more satisfying then eating them and hey, no calories!

This is fun and easy to paint! Grab any watercolors you have and some paper! You might also find watercolor pencils and a white gel pen handy but if you don’t have them improvise! Watch the tutorial to see how it’s done!

Supplies (links to Hallmark Scrapbook and Simon Says Stamp)

Substitutions: You can sketch on the cupcake with a regular pencil. For the white highlights you can use white watercolor/gouache or acrylic paint, heck, you could probably use white out or white nail polish but I don’t know if that is acid free LOL! The importing thing is that you find some time to paint, you are worth it!

Exciting News!!!!

I have been asked to teach a class for Life Book 2017 at! I am so excited an honored to be included with the other amazing artists on board. More info about this later this month!

Crazy huh? I am so excited to be a part of this year-long art class, I will be doing a new mixed media art journal page, I can’t wait to start creating it! Well, that’s it for today! I’ll have a stamping tutorial for you tomorrow (it is up on YouTube already if you need an early fix LOL) so until then happy crafting!

I need a cupcake…..

Howdy friends! Well, if today isn’t a Monday I don’t know what is! I got the kids off to school and hubby off to work then I went to walk the dog and promptly locked myself out of the house. Every door was locked. I knew it as soon as I heard the click. I did not even have a cell phone with me.  I had to stack up lawn chars to climb in a window which luckily by some divine luck was not locked.I am inside now none the worse for wear, obviously or I would not be blogging. It is definitely the kind of day where I could use a cupcake.

I made this journal page the other day when I was feeling rather blah, I needed some fun, whimsical, bright color art therapy and this page fit the bill. Watch the video to see how it was made:

I used supplies from Oriental Trading Company on this Art journal Page. If you shop there please thank them for their support and don’t forget to tell them Lindsay The Frugal Crafter sent you!

Well, I better get back to work. The house is in desperate need of a deep clean and I have the grand idea to re arrange the living room. Wish me luck. Thanks for stopping by and til next time happy crafting!
