Sketchbook Sunday: Lupines!

Hi friends! Today I thought we would paint a flower in abundance in my neck of the woods: Lupines! If you drive around Maine this time of year these flowers spring forth from fields, near ponds and lakes and even on the side of the road.

Easy Peony Flower Painting & Viviva Colorsheet Review!

Hi friends! Today I have a new product review and a tutorial. We will paint a peony flower and learn about Viviva Colorsheets, a new watercolor that comes in a paper booklet.

I recommend using a paper with a good amount of sizing, these watercolors work well on cellulose watercolor paper like Starthmore Visual Journal.

Review:
Pros: Very transparent color, convenient to carry (compact), bright concentrated color (a little goes a long way), I really like this for coloring stamped images for cardmaking

Cons: Dye based color may fade easily, limited amount of color on the sheets (vs tubes or pans) might not be the best value for large studio work

Bottom line, these a bright and fun, they can be slipped into a bag or sketchbook for travel. I like them for small sketches or cardmaking. You can find out more about these watercolors here. Happy crafting!

A Pretty Flower for a Very Sweet Viewer!

Dear friends, I don’t think you realize the impact you make on my life when I read your emails, messages and comments. Today’s video goes out to a very sweet lady LaVonne who shared a lovely photograph of this bromeliad flower growing in her yard and gave me permission to share it with you.

Grab your paper, paints and brushes for a fun tutorial using only 3 colors! You will need Hookers Green, Lemon Yellow and a cool red like Magenta, Alizarin crimson or Rose Red. This can be painted with only a #6 round brush but you might also want a 1/2″ angular for leaf shading. I am painting on a 140# Strathmore watercolor greeting card.

I hope you enjoyed this relaxing tutorial and if you give it a try, please let me know how it went. I also have another favor to ask. This dear lady who shared the photo is back in the hospital, if you could send some positive thoughts her way and maybe leave a word of encouragement for her in the comments I know it would make her day. She has no idea that I am mentioning this and I hope I am not speaking out of turn but it is the least I can do for someone who lifted me up recently. Take care of yourselves and til next time happy crafting!
