Father’s Day Gift Box Card with Scene Stamping!

Hi friends! I was cleaning up after cooking a meal from a dinner kit and I was about to toss the box in the recycling bin when I realized that it could be upcycled instead!

The box had a fold out flap which concealed the cooking directions for the dinner kit and I thought it would be cool to make it into a greeting card and since it is already attached to a sturdy box it can be a gift box too!

Supplies:

Here is a tutorial on masking if you need it. This was fun to make but if I was going to do this again I would save several boxes and cover and decorate them all at once while my supplies were out and I was in the groove. I can see these being useful for birthdays too and you can make more in less time if you batch them out. I hope you use some of these techniques in your next project and til next time happy crafting!

A Thoughtful Gift for Dad!

Hi friends! I heard recently that the best thing you can give someone is time. What better way to make Father’s Day more special than giving dad back some time by doing one of his chores. This is a thoughtful gift for a child to make and they will also learn to appreciate all the things dad does for them after tackling one of his chores (and what kids doesn’t like to wash a car?)

I also like that the tags can be used as bookmarks too. You could even give a book to go along with it, there is some good “dad humor” in Jim Gaffigan’s book Food-A Love Story but if you have any other suggestions leave them in the comments. My hubby was laughing out loud at Food so I read it too and it was super funny and clean so no worries if your kids pick it up:)

Watch the video to see how easy and affordable these IOU chore coupons are to make using supplies from Papermart!

Video!

Supplies:
Kraft tags
Kraft Jewelry Boxes (I used 5 1/8″x6 1/8″)
Washi Tape
Baker’s Twine
Pattern Paper (I used a 6″x6″ paper pad by Teresa Collins)
Dies: (Darice, Spellbinders)
Glue Sticks and Wet glue
Stamp (IOU ticket from Inkadinkado)
Ink
Cream card stock
Small office hole punch

Directions:
1. Cut shapes out of kraft tags and adhere tag over patterned paper. Die cut or punch complimentary shapes from paper scraps.

2. Stamp IOU ticket with brown ink on cream cardstock and cut out. Adhere to tag with washi tape. Add extra die cuts with wet glue.

3. Re-punch hole in tag and add bakers twine.

4. Write what the “coupon” tag is good for (such as a car wash, raking the yard, sweeping the driveway etc.) on the ticket and package in a kraft jewelry box that you can decorate with paper and tie with string.

Think of other ways YOU can adapt this idea to your needs, maybe make a set of bookmarks to give someone with a gift card to a local bookstore or a booklet of “free babysitting” coupons for a friend or sister. What you are giving someone is time to do something they enjoy and time, like all the best things in life, is free and priceless. Thanks so much for stopping by and til next time happy crafting!

A Fathers Day Gift Kids Can Make Today!

Hi Friends! Today I have a craft for kids to make for their Dads or Grandfathers using items you have around the house or in the recycling bin and basic craft supplies:

DCF 1.0

You will need:

  • Cardboard (mine is 9″x12″)
  • Colored paper (Blue, white and green, this can be construction paper, cardstock or typing paper)
  • Twine or string
  • Googlie eye
  • Markers or watercolor crayons (or something similar)
  • Metallic eyeshadow
  • a spray bottle of water
  • A hole punch and scissors
  • Optional: Patterned scrapbook paper to use as a mat, I used a 8.5″x11″ necktie pattern I’ve had in my stash forever.

Directions

  1. Distress the cardboard panel by pulling off bits of paper then you can add color, if desired, to the ridges with markers or crayons.
  2. Glue scrapbook paper on cardboard.
  3. Glue a smaller rectangle of blue on top and add a strip of green as shown. Accent with markers or crayons.
  4. Cut a fish shape (I used this free SVG to die cut one) from white paper and color with markers, spray with water to blend (or you can use spray ink) *I dry embossed my fish for texture so do that too if you like before coloring.
  5. While the fish paper is wet dust it with metallic eye shadow.
  6. Adhere fish and draw a hook and line on the background. Glue on googlie eye.
  7. Punch holes and add twine for hanging.
  8. Write or Type “Fishing you a happy father’s day” on a strip of paper and adhere.

Pretty neat for a last-minute gift huh? It would go great with a fishing licence and a new box of tackle I think! Thanks for stopping by and til next time happy crafting!

Happy Father’s Day & Easy Inky Landscapes!

Well, now, it finally feels like summer! I went out to let the chickens out and it was warm and sunny! I was up last night playing with some of my new stamp show stuff and I made a few cards, they can be for Father’s day or a manly birthday:

DCF 1.0

I enjoyed making the sponged background landscape so much that I flipped on the video camera and filmed the technique. A card like this is great to have on hand for a guy’s birthday! PS the car and gas pump stamps are by Local King Rubber Stamps.

Here is a close up of the card I made in the video:

DCF 1.0

At first I wanted to do the background with the new Crafters Workshop cityscape stencil but it seemed a bit busy, what do you think?

DCF 1.0

I had some old tourist maps that I cut for the background panel on this card, I also used the map to make envelopes, sorry no picture.

DCF 1.0

I hope you have a fun Father’s day and til next time happy crafting!
