Homemade Resist Spray {DIY Goosebumps!}

Happy Monday Folks! Last month while I was at the Heirloom show I saw Pat from Technique Junkies make some fun samples using the product Goosebumps. I planned on buying a bottle (Pat did not sell it or I would have got it from her) but then I got too distracted by all of the other goodies at the show and forgot I wanted some. So I decided to see if I could make my own, here is a project made with my homemade version:

Not bad and totally fun! My homemade version does not have texture like the store bought Goosebumps spray but the look is pretty darn close. Watch this quick video for techniques:

Lindsay’s Resist Spray Recipe

1 Tablespoon white glue (non-washable)

1 Teaspoon metallic liquid watercolor or a bit of fine mica powder (optional)

3 ounces water

Place all ingredients into to a spray bottle (with a cap) and shake well before use each time. Make sure to replace the cap when not in use so that the glue won’t dry in the nozzle. Measurements do not need to me exact, if your sprayer will not spray well flush it with water and add more water to the mix. If the spray is too fine add more glue. Use what you have on hand for glue such as Elmers, Mod Podge, tacky glue or whatever.

Stamps a Stencil & a Stipple Brush = Awesome!

Happy Friday folks, it is the first day of Summer Vacation and I have started my kids on their pre-TV routine: 30 minutes of IXL Math (a school recommended math program) and I have also informed them that their rooms have to be tidy before the TV is turned on! I know, I’m awfully mean, they also have to read 30 minutes (at least) a day but they don’t mind that. I went down to my studio the other day to tidy up but was distracted by the bin of new stamp show stuff so after clearing a spot to work I played with my new stash, I liked my first try so much I simply turned on the camera (which is always set up) and filmed the process. You can use whatever stamps and stencils you have, stencils with bigger holes work best, and dye based ink, You can use any large brush you have too.

Pretty fun huh? Now between this and the gelli-prints I am going to have to actually use these backgrounds before my pile-o-backgrounds gets out of control. Thanks for stopping by and til next time happy crafting!

DIY Gelatin Plate & Prints!

Happy Friday, another rainy day, well it has been dry up until this week so I’m not complaining! Yesterday I played! I made my own gelatin plate inspired buy the expensive Gelli Plates that everyone on the “net” have been using. The two problems with those are: 1. They are expensive and 2. The stores around here don’t carry them. What’s a girl to do? Oh yeah, maker her own! And you can too, here’s the video!

True to from I liked the prints I pulled after I turned off the camera much better! Here are some still shots, here is the example with ribbon I pressed on the plate, look at the texture, it’s almost like a photo. I need to try this with leaves and plants!

This one was rubber bands! AKA “Elastics” LOL! (only one person will get that joke ha ha!) The little tag on the side was done with a mesh lemon bag.

I like this because it was printed 3 times with different colors. I keep printing on a paper until I am happy with it!

I mainly used stencils in my experiments today but you can use so many things, you can press cheese cloth, bubble wrap, plastic wrap, crinkled paper, yarn, twine, leaves, feathers and a myriad of this into the plate for texture. You can draw on the plate, paint on it with brushes and scrape soft tools (like silicone cooking tools) across the inked surface. UK MaryAnne has a great post about making your own tools on her blog that you should see too. Oh the creative possibilities this opens up! I know what i am doing on this rainy day! Stamping with Watercolor Paint {use what you’ve got!}

Howdy friends! Today I have a quick, fun technique project for you that will have you making cards in minutes. Feel free to substitute supplies I used for ones you have on hand. You can use ANY watercolor paint for this. I use Gel Sticks on the card base but if you don’t have them try watercolor crayons, oil pastels or even kid’s crayons. It’s not about having the most resources at your disposal, it’s about being the most resourceful! Here is the video!

Here are a couple close ups of the quick cards from the video.

You can do this! You don’t need hours to create something worthwhile. Use those little snippets of time and make something wonderful! Thanks for stopping by and til next time happy crafting!

Another Stamping Tool YOU can make!

I have always had a problem with evenly stamping a background. Oh, I can stamp a random background just fine but a lined-up pattern….no dice. So, inspired by the new inkadinkado stamping gear I made a tool to stamp straight backgrounds and I used it to stamp the background in this card:

Here is a quick video to show you how to make it and use it, easy peasy!

Here is a photo of the two tools I made. I made one to work with my inkadinkado stamping gear paddle and one to work with my home-made stamp machine paddle:

Give it a try and you will never stamp a crooked background again (unless you want to that is!) Til next time happy crafting!

FYI, the stamps used in this card are: Fairy (Crafter’s Companion), Sentiment (Stampin’ Up!), Frame (Rubber Stampede), Background small flourish (inkadinkado), Background round stamp (Inque Boutique), background cover-a-card (Impression Obsession) PS-after stamping my background with my homemade tool I stamped a large swirl pattern over the entire panel.

Mmmm, vintagy goodness!

I love anything vintage! That is what inspired one of my newest cards, I used my new Sew Pretty Digital stamp set and until midnight you can get it for 25% off as well as all of my sets at The Lindsay’s Stamp Stuff shop at MyGrafico!

Digital Stamps: Lindsay's stamp Stuff, Rubber stamps: SU! (sentiment) Inque boutique/Darice (pattern background)

To make the card I took a 5″x7″ cream card base and covered it with a glue stick and I layered bits of paper in a crazy quilt fashion then I drew stitched around the pieces. To make the sewing supplies image I used the spool, tape and thimble PNG stamps from the sew pretty set and overlapped them in my image software and erased the parts I didn’t want. easy peasy! I colored them with my Copics then O used a pon-pom to apply tan chalk to the background then I too a dress pattern rubber stamp and inked it with clear ink and stamped over the whole image. After that I took a pon-pom with brown chalk and rubbed the chalk over the background areas only to make the dress pattern appear, cool huh! I love to print my stamps on Neenah cardstock (thanks Micki!) but I hat that what background staring at me so this solves that problem while letting me have the rich bright marker colors that are achieved by coloring on white!

Here is a look at the set I used, remember the 25% off sale is only until Midnight tonight!
