A Welcome Baby Card with Bold Colors!

Hi Friends! Today I have a simple idea for a card using cardstock and ribbon:

DCF 1.0

I love the contrast of the rich colors and the white but you can use ribbons in any shade you like! I am using grosgrain and satin ribbon from Offray in this project!

Supplies:

Directions:

1. Cut a sheet of 8.5″x11″ cardstock in half. Fold one of these halves to make your card base. Cut the other half down to 4″x5.25″. Die cut a star in the tip section of the smaller cardstock, then place it in an embossing folder to add texture.

2. Center the star window panel on the card base you previously folded and lightly trace the star. I traced it dark so you can see it in the photo but you want to keep it light otherwise the lines might show through the ribbon.

3. Apply double stick tape to the card base over the star.

4. Apply ribbon to the tape. Be sure to cover the entire star you traced. Trim the excess ribbon.

5. Apply foam tape to the back of the embossed panel.

6. Adhere the panel to the card base. Cut a slit on the fold of the card near the bottom. Thread the orange ribbon through, wrap around the front and tie. Add a stamped sentiment. Embellish with buttons if desired.

You can change the theme of this card simply by changing the window shape and color of ribbons used. If you do not have a die you can trace a stencil or print a free clip art shape off the internet to use as a template. This is a versatile idea to make a card for an occasion!

Bright baby cards and invites!

Hello there! Today I thought I’d show you how you can make some baby cards that are cute as well as quick to make. Think of using one of these shaped designs the next time you need to make a card for a new parent or when hosting a baby shower. I used SVG die cuts from my Sweet Baby SVG set (I cut them with my electronic die cutter and SCAL software) but the kit also has printable templates too! These cards are easy on the wallet too, I made 12 shaped cards using 6 sheets of 12″x12″ cardstock, stamps and scraps of ribbon/trim.

The diaper cards are my favorite! I like how quick and simple they are. After I die cut all of my card templates I used round and scallop paper punches to punch shapes from any excess paper. Then I layered my punch outs on my card as shown. I stamped “cute as a button” (Pink Persimmon) on the circle them stamped one of the buttons from the kit on a 1″ circle of cardstock then I clued 5 1″ circles together with the stamped button on top to make the 3-D button. I used my heavy-duty Crop-a-Dial to punch out the button holes and tied a short ribbon through before gluing it on my card. A bit of organza ribbon threaded through the slots in the front of the card finishes it off nicely.

Another thing I love about the diaper card is the liner. I simply cut a sheet of white cardstock in quarters, cut off the corners where the leg holes in the diaper are and used a scallop border punch along those edges and along the top. Then I slipped the lined in the diaper card and trimmed the top corners to fit. You can see how to trim a 8.5″x11″ sgheet of cardstock by looking at the following diagram:

The rattle cards were also quick to make, I was able to cut one diaper card and one rattle card on a 12″x12″ sheet, cutting both together saves paper. The rattle cards were stamped and layered much the same as the diaper card:

The onesie cards are a big hit! These always sell well at craft fairs so make a few extra. You can cut two from a 12″x12″ sheet of cardstock.

digital Stamps/templates: Lindsay's stamp Stuff, Paper: DCWV, Cardstock: Staples, Markers and Pencils: Prismacolor

To make the envelopes I simple cut the SVG file with my Cricut and SCAL software, Don’t worry if you don’t have a Cricut because you get re-sizable jpg templates in the Envelope Bonanza set too so you can print if you prefer 😉

Stamps from the new On The Line set from Lindsay's Stamp Stuff.

These cards were simple to make. First I layered my stamps and text the way I wanted them and placed my arrangement on a new 8.5″x11″ document. I printed both cards on one sheet of cream cardstock.  Then I dragged apart the banners and printed them again on a piece of copy paper. After that I taped scraps of patterned paper over the spots where the banners printed and put it through the printer again so that the banners were printed on my pattern paper. Then I simply cut out the banners from the PP and adhered them to my card over the printed banners. I stamped “DAY” and “BOY” with rubber stamps (inkadinkado) and punched them out, inked them and added them over the banners with foam tape. This is an easy pattern you could make a bunch of quickly and have on hand for birthday’s and baby showers. Just don’t forget to make matching envelopes too!

I have a hard time with "boy" cards and clean and simple but I think this time I pulled it off 😉

These cards qualify for the following challenges: Aimee’s (something for a girl: It’s your Day card), Craftalicious (anything new), Drunken Stampers (Birthday),  Cupcake Inspirations (it’s your day card), Incy Wincy (paper piecing), Pile it On (Quirky), Stamp Something (use a Digi), Dancing Pajamas (alphabet stamp) and Artful Inkables (a new technique: paper piecing with a digi).

Digital Stamps: Lindsay's stamp Stuff, Rubber stamps: SU!, Inkadinkado, Paper: DCVW, Sketch: 2s4y

I was looking for some inspiration this morning so I popped over to 2 sketches 4 you and mad 2 cards using both Laura’s sketch #49 and the bonus sketch. This card uses the bonus sketch and the “Baby” theme from Caardvarks:

The chick digi is from the cute easter stamp set from Lindsay's stamp stuff. See stamping tip at the end of this post 🙂

There are some fun techniques on this card. I stitched 4 pieces of 2″x7″ tissie paper together, fringed  and crinkled it (I got that tip from Johanna on Leah Fung’s blog) and hot glued it to my card, fun! Also I embossed the little dots on the scallop circle with my Crop-a-dial just by placing my paper in the eyelet setter part and giving a squeeze.

All of the die cuts were done with Sure Cuts a Lot  (SCAL) software using fonts! You can save 10% on scal until the 14th with coupon code: 8774959 SCAL lets you cut fonts from your computer with your Cricut machine, cool huh!

I colored the scissors from the Sew Pretty set with copics.

Here is another cool tip from Johanna, look at the little bow, all you do is fold a scrap of ribbon in 3 and tie it with thread, saves time, money and look how cute!

I had a bit of trouble stamping the “it’s a girl” on the tall card, the ink kept beading up on the cheap-o clear stamp so I scuffed it with an emery board (fingernail file) and now it works so well:

Use a fingernail file or fine grit sandpaper to improve a cheap clear stamp! Please note, this if for the silicone cheapos that you find in the craft store (like the dollar stamps) high quality clear stamp will not need this step. Stamp first, scuff later:)

Boy that was a lot to get through! Thanks for sticking with me and til next time happy crafting!

Make a diaper cake!

Do you know a mom to be? How about making her one of these:

My first diaper cake...I'm so proud of myself!
My first diaper cake...I'm so proud of myself!

And these:

I made this card with Kathy's template, see link below.
I made this card with Kathy's template, see link below.

You can download the printable template or one to cut with SCAL from this post. Thanks again to my friend Kathy for letting me share her template!

To make a diaper cake you will need a package of diapers, 50 or so, usually marked Jumbo. If you are making this for a mom to be use a pack of size 1 diapers, I used a pack of size two because this was for my friend Kristin who had her baby 3 weeks ago! She is adorable BTW! You will also need narrow ribbon cut into 12″ lengths, wide ribbon, rubber bands, a short dowel or chopstick and baby items such as pacifiers, bottles and teething rings. An extra pair of hands are helpful to, my 4 year old twins helped my by rolling the diapers and holding them together as I tied them. Time needed: 1 hour.

Step 1. Roll up each diaper and tie with a narrow ribbon.

Step 2. Grab a bunch of diapers (6 or so) and join them by wrapping a rubber band around them. Add a layer of diaper rolls around that and tie with a wide ribbon (the extra hands come in handy here!) This is how you make the layers of your “cake” make 3 different sizes so they will stack.

Step 3. Place the large layer on a plate (I save the sturdy plastic trays that fruit platters come in for this but you can cut a circle out of cardboard and cover it with foil.) Then place the middle layer on that. Slide a dowel threw the two layers, then place the top layer on so the dowel is in the middle. This keeps it from falling apart. You could use tape but be careful not to use so much it ruins the diapers when it is pulled off!

Tie on the baby things with the loose ribbon poking out here and there from when you tied the diapers together. Done!

My girls had a ball making this and it is sure to come in handy for any new mother! Why not make one today.

Awesome Fonts!

After yesterday’s post I got a chance to play with my new fonts by Lettering Delight that I bought at the Scrap n Font dollar sale. Look at what I Made. I printed two transparency sheets of the Boho frames then made a card with one of the images.
