Bubbly Betta Fish // Gouache on Canvas

Hi friends! Sorry this post is late, I uploaded it to YouTube yesterday for Sketchbook Sunday but was too busy yesterday to blog it. My son is getting ready to take is drivers licence test and needs more hours of practice to be eligible so we drove down to visit my parents and sister and her family. We had a great time but got home late and I could barely keep my eyes open long enough to get through my email.

So better late than never right? This painting was a struggle. I almost tossed it in the fire pit about halfway through. But the awesome thing about almost giving up hope on a painting is the freedom in knowing “well, I can’t make it any worse!” and then you can relax and have fun. I hope this in enjoyable to watch and I hope it shows you that everyone struggles sometimes.

This page was fun to make. I was not sure if I was going to make a card or a scrapbook page but I liked the background so much I did not want to cut it down to card size (you can see how I made this background on my Bad Background Paper beads video) so on a journal page it went. Watch this video to see how this page came together:

What do you link of the soda can, yarn and drywall mesh on the page? I think anything is fair game on an art journal layout. The journal I am using is by Canson, the pens are by Micron and the journaling templates were all provided by Oriental Trading Company. I really like the way my letters turned out all wimbly-wobbly by using the template. I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and don’t forget to sign up for a chance to win the Art Neko stamps I used. This contest is open to everyone worldwide! I will draw a name at random on Monday, July 21st, 2014.  Also if you happen to shop at Art Neko be sure to use my coupon code Lindsay10% good for 10% off non-sale rubber! Thanks for stopping by and til next time happy crafting.

DIY Paper Ball Ornaments!

Howdy folks! Why does it seem like time speeds up after Thanksgiving? Is it just me? I spent most of the day picking away at card elements for my mass produced handmade Christmas cards and I think I may have developed carpel tunnel syndrome from stamping and punching…stamper tunnel syndrome…huh, I think I just coined a new phrase LOL! Well, if you have to oomph to punch some papers into circles you can make these cute ornaments:

Summer Flip-Flop Earrings!

Ahhh, summer, the lazy days…I wish! I have been running non stop all summer. Last night I told my kids “that’s it, we are not going anywhere tomorrow, we are going to chill out at home!” then I remembered that I have a kids knitting class to teach that the library this afternoon, well, at least we can ride our bikes, mostly I’m sick of being a taxi service 😉 I couldn’t wait to make some jewelry with the new lampwork beads I got  from Oriental Trading Company this week. They have given me some products to try so if you check them out please tell ‘um Lindsay sent ya! I made a couple pairs of earrings and an adjustable anklet:

The earrings are super easy, all you need are round nose pliers, a wire cutter, 20 gauge wire, 2 beads and ear-hooks. All of these supplies can be found cheaply at Oriental Trading if you do not have them already. This is a really basic project and if you are new to beading and wire work this video will show you how to properly manipulate the wire for strong, attractive and durable jewelry:

Pretty easy huh? The anklet is done much the same. When you put the flip-flop bead on the wire you can add larger beads of your choosing and when you make the top wrapped loop make it large enough for rat-tail cord to pass through and to attach 2 more dangles. To make the dangles take a lampworked headpin and slide on 2 beads. Make a right angle bend and the first part of your loop but don’t wrap it yet. Slide the wire through the loop on the first dangle then complete the loop and wrapping on the lampwork headpin. This will make strong connection because the loop is wrapped, not just closed. Repeat for the other headpin. Slide the completed bead cluster (use the large loop on the flip-flop dangle) on a piece of cord and make adjustable sliding knots on each end.  If you prefer a necklace use a longer cord!

So back top my busy week, my daughters carpooled to horse camp with another mom each day saving me a lot of additional driving so as a thank you I gave her the earrings I made in the video;)

I have 3 copies of the new book, The Rainbow Paints (now available on Amazon!!!), that I illustrated, a cigar box that I glued scraps of foam board in for dividers to hold some ink blending tools (yes, I broke down and got Judikins color dusters, Sky Blue Pink had 4 packs of the dusters on sale for $3.80 last month) another cigar box that I have my 3 lonely panpastel cakes in and cosmetic sponges I use for chalk blending and my old Stampin up box that I keep my homemade bottlecap ink daubers in. Here is a close up of the cigar box I just altered:
