How To Re Cover Shabby Cushions!

In today’s tutorial I’ll show you how to freshen up your patio with washable cushion covers!

Here are the covered cushions sitting in the chairs. Fabric by Waverly. The outdoor Throw pillow was purchased at Lowes.

Outdoor cushions are pricey so it makes sense to keep them around for as long as you can. Usually it the fabric that fades or wears out but the cushion underneath is fine so covering them is a wonderful option. Learn how in today’s video!

Here is the diagram I showed in the video.

It really is a great sewing project anyone can have success with. I hope you give a try and enjoy the last few weeks of summer in style! Happy crafting!

  1. Some young adults i see can’t sew but they have discovered fabric glue. It holds during washing. Glue is for easy projects like this one. Probably would not use to make a skirt. Yours turned out so beautiful. Betty

  2. Lindsay, this inspired me to do a project that I bought maybe 2 years ago and never tried it. I am a horrible sewer. lol. I was going to do a simple little cushion and the fabric is sitting there waiting. I have two sewing machines and don’t know how to use them. I don’t k ow how to thread them. Advice if you have. One is a big one and the other is portable. Singers. My mom had them and I inherited them when she passed. If the tread breaks I would not know what to do?? Can’t change color since I can’t thread it. Help!!!!This is why my project never got started lol. I would love to use those machines. but since I didn’t buy them in Michaels they can’t help me. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Oh I fail sewing class in school, as did my mom but my mom learned to sew quite well and I did not. I was making a project in school and made mistake one. Sewing with the leg up. and then sew my shorts both legs together since it was like a skort. My sewing lessons need to be from square one lol.

    • search for a youtube video on how to thread the type of machine you have or search for a manual of the machine, I bet you can find something. Before you untread it take a photo so you can see where the thread goes. You just need to put the new thread in the same way the old thread was in.

    • I’d use wallpaper paste to attach it and I don’t think I’d seal it unless you were sure you wanted it to be permanent in which case I’d use minxwax polycrylic
