Today I am reviewing the new refillable Color It watercolor brush markers and refills. A set contains 24 watercolor brush markers in a reusable zippered case for $29.99 and refill inks are available for $5.99 per color.  I will be giving a set of these markers away to 3 lucky readers. To enter the prize draw leave a comment below telling me what state you are from and what your favorite color is. The Review!

Pros:

  • Affordable

Cons

  • Only 24 colors
  • If you purchase all the refills at once it can be expensive

Color it watercolor pens are the only refillable option for a real brush marker pen that I know of and they are easy to refill. One $5.99 bottle of ink refills a marker 15 times so it is way cheaper than buying 15 markers. I think these markers are as good as any of the other real brush markers I have reviewed. The ink flows smoothly and they feel good in your hands. The tip is slightly larger than the Zig Real brush pen but smaller than Arteza. To be clear I find all of these markers to be comparable but an advantage to Color It because they are refillable and you can buy the refill inks as you need them. The fact that no refills are available for the other brands out there has always bothered me because unlike a felt tip pen the bristles are not going to wear out so you would be tossing away a perfectly good pen. I am so glad these exist. As for there only being 24 colors available I think that’s fine because with watercolor markers you don’t need as many to blend like you do with alcohol pens and you can scribble the marker on a tile and pick up the ink with another pen to mix and it won’t harm the tip like it may with a felt tip pen. If you desire more than 24 colors that these won’t be for you. I love sustainable products and I am so happy to partner with Color it for this giveaway!     9. Love all the bright colors in this marker set — and the refillable inks!

      I live in Southern Maryland, and I have several favorite colors, fuschia pink, purple, turquoise and chatreuse!

      I love making foam stamps and plates with my original designs, and using water based markers and watercolors to make prints. This set looks like it would be terrific!

  206. I have been looking for watercolor brush markers for the longest time. Probably, since 2008. The closest I’ve come is Pentel Arts brush markers. But, I don’t believe they are refillable. At least, I don’t see a way to refill them.

    Here in Washington our skies are filed with smoke. It’s also really warm outside. So, I stay indoors and doodle and paint.

  246. OMG this is just the sort of thing I am looking for in a product. ….re usable. I think all product manufacturers should make their packaging as reusable as possible, especially food packaging but there is a lot that can be done to improve art supplies as well, like refillable markers for example haha. My dad was a southern Baptist pastor for many years and my husband has been one since 1981. So we have moved around some. My favorite color is blue. Especially the different variations of blue.   372. Washington State is where I am located and I seem to be loving coral and orange colors these days. My favorite has changed many times. I have the Zigs but don’t tend to use them because they are so expensive when having to reorder when empty. I love the idea of having watercolor pens that are refillable. Even if I don’t win this set, which I never win anything by the way, I may still purchase these and try them out. Thanks for the video and review!!

  434. Hi Lindsay! Let me start off by saying that I watch your YouTube videos ALL of the time and they/you really inspire me to create, especially when I feel SO….for lack of a better word, UN-creative.
    Of course, you’re having this giveaway for the 1 art supply that I’ve been DYING to get…Real Brush (or any brush really) watercolor pens/markers. I LOVE watercolors.   455. I’m from the Show-Me State, Missouri, and my favorite color is every shade of blue (except electric blue). I love blue so much that one of my dogs is named Sky (for Sky Blue), and one that passed away was named Indigo. If I ever have a male dog I will name him Cobalt. (My other dog is Stormy which is a stretch for the blue theme, but storms can have grayish blue clouds, can’t they?)

I absolutely am all about being able to refill markers especially because my children and I go through them so quickly, especially all the blue variants. We do tons of water and sky. I’ve been going back and forth between Zig Real Brush and Arteza, but since seeing your video I see the benefits of the Colorit markers.     I’m a Jersey girl transplanted into North Carolina soil. I love it here, we get all the seasons without the *snow* (gasp, gasp, sputter, choke) oh how I despised shoveling the white stuff❣
    I digress,,,, whewwwww,,, back to your channel, & review. I adore your channel, and when you do a product review I really do sit up and take notes. LOL
    I think it’s wonderful these markers are refillable and actually affordable. Sometimes a company comes up with something that is new like this and wants to charge an arm & leg.

  951. Wow! I’m with you, FINALLY a refillable watercolor marker. I always cringe when it’s time to throw my used up ones away. At home, plastics were all recycled, but now that we live on the road, recycling isn’t always available in the community..which boggles my mind! And their carrying case makes them so portable. I’d probably take half out, choose my main colors and pack a pad of watercolor paper in other side. That way when walking the dog, I can sketch whatever inspires me! AWESOME idea, so thank you Color It!!

  959. Hello Lindsay from Northeast Ohio! Just wanted to share, I had my best vacation in Camden Maine. We took a cruise on the Windjammer Schooner Sail Trip! It was awesome! I only wish I would have taken a travel set of watercolors! Is Camden far from you? I had so much lobster that week, my hands were changing into claws! Lol

    I would love the set of watercolor refillable brushes! I’m taking a calligraphy class in Sept and would love to have them for that. Zig paint brushes are a little too steep for me right now.

I’m fairly new to watercolor & have tried them in conjunction with my Doodle Art. I have not yet invested in watercolor supplies other than a few cheapo pans, brushes, & markers from Walgreens (way low budget). I’m having much more success with the markers…even applied with a cheap brush & water.

    Also, I’m not of the chalky residue from the watercolor pigment bcz I like to draw/doodle on them & I’m overprotective of my pens! I plan to try watercolor tubes in the future, but right but the Color It Refillable Markers would be a great way to begin upgrading my kids Washable Markers. Lol

I’m in California and I love sooo many colors, but the one that is a sentimental favorite is what I call shell pink – a peachy pink that is inside a large shell my grandparents had on a shelf in their home.     My favorite color is listed in my email address—DMC 211 (cross stitch thread) which is lavender or any shades there of.
    I think the watercolor brushes would be great for travel. I don’t own any brand of watercolor brushes. I just travel with a few brushes, Tim Holtz mini ink pads and a small palette. I may consider buying if I’m not lucky enough to win.

I live in Colorado and I love my state. I’m from Ohio, (I don’t miss the humidity). I have a couple of favorite colors. I love Purple/Lavender, but I also love a teal.   1217. Hello, my friend! I am in North Carolina and I love this idea of refillable watercolor brushes! Color It! is on the right track and others are bound to follow soon! Even though there are only 24 colors at this time, I can see purchasing this set so I would always have a base of colors to mix more colors. You have often shown up that we don’t have to have dozens and dozens of colors when we an mix our own. How’s that for changing my “gotta have it all” philosophy.   1223. Dear Lindsay what a nice gift for someone to win. The idea of a refillable watercolor marker is so needed in the crafting world !! Money spent for pleasure or passion should never have a “Bottom Line”..However, it does. We love what we do as novices or professionals but when a sustainable product comes along that will save us money in the long run ..yet provide us with what we need is fabulous. I hope other marker manufacturers get on the band wagon and start understanding the mindset of cost versus pleasure..Thank you for what you do and your patience with teaching your craft.   1271. Lindsay, Thank you for the review. I hadn’t heard of Colorit before and I haven’t tried using any markers either. Intimidated to say the least. I’ve wish listed Tombow Dual brush markers. The cost for the sets, is a risk for a novice. Theses water colors seem easy enough to play with and not break my budget. Of course, you make them seem so easy to get great results. I’d give them a try and set myself free to explore free form art. Rather than just stamping images and blending backgrounds for cards.

I really enjoyed seein how you made the little watch paper that had how the color pen looked as it was in the three ways and to see how to fad out the color. I never thought of using watercolor markers to do the shading from the dark and then pulling with the brush to make the lighter shade. My favorite color is aqua or teal.

Sometimes even the most straightforward tasks can be intimidating if you’ve never done it before or if you’re like me and have a brain injury an what takes a few seconds to walk us through would be 10 min of anxiety walking through each step of the instructions and still manage to goof it up😆.   1318. I’m from Alaska and my favorite color is yellow. I have the zig markers but I’m also interested with this ColorIt Refillable Watercolor Brush Pens . This is cool that you can refill it, I don’t think zig markers are refillable so if you run out of ink you need to buy new pens and that is going to get pricey.

    Those water brush markers look lovely, and coming in the case is really terrific. I live in Minnesota, and it is REALLY hard to pick a favorite color! Recently I started wearing leggings in bright prints. I was surprised to find that almost everything I chose has orange in it! I’m really enjoying orange now, so I guess that’s my current favorite.

I am from the beautiful foothills of the Blue Ridge Mtns in North Carolina and I have too many favorites when it comes to colors and just one color is boring… so if I had to pick something it would either be the limitless hues and varieties of yellows, oranges and deep reds in a sunset or the many blues and purples and pinks in a hydrangea. So my favorite colors are sunset & hydrangea. 😊 hope that counts. Lol. Thanks for doing this awesome giveaway!

I love my Zigs….and I just purchased the Arteza brush markers…don’t really have much to say being the only use was making a color swatch…but these Color it brush markers seem pretty darn nice…especially for the price. I am wondering though, if they may eventually offer replacement brush tips?! Since they are synthetic, the brushes can end up fraying….I would really love having the chance to try these babies out😉 Thanks for sharing.

  1416. I like the long brush tip! Plus they could be refilled with PH Martin watercolors or even try PH Martin India inks. What fun…..also could possibly do grating of Derwenr ink tense blocks and add water to desired depth of color!!! This product is very exciting!

  1417. I am just learning how to water color myself. I just purchased the Arteza real brush markers and have been playing with those and seem to like them so far. I am very curious about these refillable water color pens and would love to try them out. Love your work huge fan! TFS!
