Hi friends! Today I am going to share my most requested gift, a DIY Scrapbook calendar! I started making these 15 years ago when my son was born. I saw a “scrapbook calendar” for sale when I went to pick up my photos at Wal-Mart one day and decided to make one for my mom, it was a simple project, you basically just glued your photos in the rectangles on the calendar pages. My mom LOVED it and requested another one. The next year the blank calendars were nowhere to be found! I had to come up with one from scratch or ruin Christmas! OK, Maybe I am being a bit dramatic, anyway, over the past 14 years I have got this process down to a science.

Break the project into manageable chunks starting with printing the calendar, photos and any other digital supplies I want to use. I usually make a couple of digital scrapbook pages too (at one time I was making 4 calendars at Christmas and for those years I made 12 digital layout and printed 4 copies, easy peasy!) Then I bind the book and adhere the photos and finally I embellish the pages. You can work a page at a time if you prefer but if you are one of those 4-hour-page people you might want to relax your standards a bit. When it’s done you will feel so proud!

Not sure what is going on in this photo, I thought hot rollers were a good idea today. You may question my hairstyle choices but I assure you my taste in gift giving is “on fleek” today! Watch the video to see exactly how to make this!

Video!

The Digital supplies I used came from the Christmas Design Bundle from DesignBundles.net and Fontbundles.net You can get this package of over 900 design elements (individually priced at $557) for $34 ! I am also giving away one bundle to a lucky reader! This contest is open worldwide, leave a comment for a chance to win!

Here are the techniques you will learn today!

*How to format and print a calendar for free
*How to print digital scrapbook paper to use in craft projects
*How to create a digital scrapbook page you can print
*Ways yo use digital products in traditional scrapbooks
*How to bind the calendar
* How I create quick traditional pages (using up old stash)
*Tips for mass production scrapbooking
*Tips for using lots of photos

Feel free to pop ahead, pause or re-watch different parts of the video until you understand a technique. Have fun and enjoy the look on your recipients face when they open up their custom photo calendar. Also make sure you allow plenty of time to complete this project (ie don’t start this on Christmas eve after a couple of egg-nogs.)

Supplies:

  • Cardstock
  • Photo paper (for printing photos and digital scrapbook pages)
  • Printer
  • Image editing software (I use Paint Shop Pro but Photoshop or GIMP will work the same)
  • If you want a free easy online software to print and collage your photos try ipiccy, image editing software and be tricky if you are not used to it. You can also use any scrapbooking software you may have.
  • Calendar to print, I use the free calendar generator PDF Calendar.
  • Digital papers & artwork, I used the Christmas Design Bundle.
  • Paper trimmer
  • Tan inkpad (optional)
  • Stickers and other light weight embellishments
  • Adhesive (wet and dry)
  • Binder clip & ribbon scraps
  • Binding machine and comb *if you do not have a binding machine I have a tutorial here for doing this with a crop-a-dial or a copy center will bind it for you inexpensively.

Let me know if you have any questions in the comments! I would also love to know if you have ever made a scrapbook gift for anyone. I think the thing I love most about this is that it is a gift for someone who has everything and it will be used everyday and not clutter up a house or collect dust. It is the perfect gift I think, and my mom agrees and she is the smartest woman I know so there you go:) Be sure to leave a comment for a chance to win The Christmas Design Bundle, I will pick a winner on Friday December 16th 2016. Thanks for stopping by and til next time happy crafting.

  2. I would love to be able to make calendars like this! What a great gift for the person who has everything or are snow birds who don;t have a real permanent home but instead stay one place in the summer and one during the winter months! Thanks for the chance to finally do something I have wanted to for a few years now!

    1. I have spent hours looking over the Christmas Bundle and I have to say that I am about to burst! Just the thought of winning this amazing prize package that will not only allow me to make my own calendars but will also allow me to realize another dream…. being able to FINALLY get my own business started with the access to making my own business cards, the business plan template, logo designs, banner templates for my blog and website to name a few.
I hope that whoever wins this utilizes ALL the different designs and templates that are included in it! I know that it is on sale for only $34.95 right now but that might as well be $3495.00 as far as my budget is concerned. I am keeping my fingers tightly crossed and will be praying that I see my name as the winner for this prize, (I think it should be called a Christmas Miracle instead of a Christmas bundle)
No matter what, thank you for the chance to win such amazing prizes!

  3. I’ve done a calendar before, with just pictures, through Walgreens.

  4. I’ve been making these scrap calendars for my daughter for years. The first one was for a Christmas we had decided to make our gifts, and this was such a hit with her, I’ve done one every year since. I print out family pictures accumulated over the years, and collage them on the various pages. It’s a walk down memory lane for me when assembling it, and often she actually cries when thumbing through it Christmas morning. It’s my favorite gift to give, and she loves each and every one of them!

I have made a calendar for my dad. I am currently working on 2 scrapbooks: 1 to my god-daughter again and the other for my dad!

  8. Loved this idea!! Would love to win! I’ve given a scrapbook with pre-made scrapbook pages for a baby shower. It had pages for all the big milestones plus a few extra pages. Thanks for sharing, Ms. Lindsay!

  9. Wow, that is some gift Miss Lindsay. I checked out the website, but to tell the truth I am so computer challenged at my age, I think some wonderful creative person should be the lucky winner. I downloaded the freebies on the Bundle site and will try to figure out what this is all about. One thing is certain WE all love your tutorials. Your voice and a good cup of coffee and I am ready to rip into the morning. Being retired I can craft all day totally uninterrupted if I choose. I may have to purchase (update Adobe) software on my computer to tackle this fun project. Be well and happy you are so adored by many grateful people, keep bringing your joy and humor to the crafting community!

  10. Your comment made me laugh. My Mom takes the calendar off the wall to write on it and sets it on the couch and covers it with papers. Then it becomes clutter and she can’t find it or use it!

  13. I make a calendar every year but so far I have bought the (one page) calendars and added photos from my past year of shooting. Last year I used my own drawings for the first time, this year my subject is roses. The Christmas bundle is really nice and your calendar is wonderful! I love the way you are talking to your mother! Does she really not look or watch? lol Either way, she will be over the moon to receive it, I’m sure. 🙂

  17. I really love that idea. Especially the link to free printable calendar, since that’ll be very useful for my 2017 bullet journal (binding it myself). I’d love to win the bundle since it’d add some really nice embellishments to my limited stash (fairly new to scrapbooking)

  21. Love the Christmas bundle you used … so much of the set doubles as great for hybrid scrapping and card making. I like to print the digital elements on cardstock and adhere to thin chipboard… think cereal box… and cut out for tags and cards. Cuts down on bulky stash.

  28. Love the scrapbook calendar! I have made scrapbooks in the past for my parents and in-laws of my son when he was an infant up to and including his middle school years. I included a page for each holiday with pictures of my son every year. My son was also involved in baseball for many years so I did a scrapbook from when he started playing Little League up to and including him playing baseball in college! My family members love the scrapbooks and I find myself leafing through them often to reminisce. Just want to say I have recently started painting in watercolors and I think I have watched every one of your videos on YouTube and your blog. I am learning so much from you and love your Friday watercolor tutorials. Thank you.
