Aloha Card & Selective Die-Cutting Technique!

Hi friends! Today I am going to share a technique that will help you get more use and versatility from your frame dies such as Nestabilities.  I will show you how to safely use your dies to partially cut a frame or window. You can use this technique on cards, tags or scrapbook pages and is really useful for shaker cards!

Tips for Impressionism in Acrylics and a Kit for Beginners!

Hi friends! Today we are going to paint Monet’s sunflowers in acrylics. I am using a guided canvas from the Paint by Pablo line available at Heirloom Traditions Paint. Use the coupon code FRUGAL to save 10% on your order and all orders over $75 ship free ($5 flat rate shipping for orders under $100.)

linnysunflowers

These canvases are wonderful tools for beginners to give them the confidence to attempt a painting that they otherwise might be too intimidated to try. It is also a great tool for teachers and they offer teacher package too if you want to become a Paint by Pablo instructor and launch your own “sip and paint” style business. Not everyone needs or wants a guided canvas, I get that, so feel free to grab any canvas you like, some acrylic paints and paint along free-hand.

All the supplies (except brushes) came in the Paint like Pablo kit.

Supplies:
18″x18″ canvas
Assortment of synthetic brushes (1″ & 1/2″ flat, #12, #3 round, 1/2″ angle)
Acrylic paint: Prussian blue, Crimson, Mauve, Cad yellow, lemon yellow, burnt sienna, Emerald green, Permanent green light, white, sky blue)

*Since I had to stretch my own canvas I needed a staple gun, right angle, and the canvas and stretcher bars that came in the kit.

monetfinal

Tips:
1. Paint the background first ad let it dry before proceeding.
2. Work back to front. Acrylics are opaque and you can paint over previous layers so don’t be scared, it’s only paint!
3. Stop before you think you are done and take a break, when you return you will know what final details it needs.
4. Relax and have fun!

To order this or any other Paint Like Pablo home painting kit or to become a Paint By Pablo instructor or find a retailer/instructor near you visit our sponsor Heirloom Traditions. Don’t forget to use the coupon code FRUGAL to save 10% on your order! Thanks for stopping by and til next time happy crafting!

Awesome weekend! Great students! New friends and STAMPS!

Hi friends! I wanted to post this Saturday but i could not get wifi or good enough cell reception from the stamp show. I am home safe and will have a haul soon! Friday i taught classes and Saturday and Sunday i got to shop. I was blessed with fearless artists as students in both of my mixed media classes! I wish I was as savvy as other bloggers and got more pictures of everyone but I did manage to get a few of the first class.

I really need to thank Kathy for assisting me in these classes. I would not have been able to pull off these large classes without her support. Kathy, Lorraine and I wanted to live stream last night but the WiFi was not sufficient in the hotel ( it was like dial up internet circa 1996 lol.) But that was OK because we got to spend time with all the new stamp show friends we met! Have a great rest of your weekend and til next time happy crafting!

Die & Jewelry Kit Giveaway! Rainbow

Hi friends! I have a fun tutorial for you tonight and a giveaway! Craft Chameleon has so many really clever products perfect to keep you (and the kids) creative this summer.

SAM_5039

I will be giving away 3 packages containing: 2 dies, 2 card packs, 5 bracelets, package of oval jump rings (shipping included US only) from Craft Chameleon. To enter just leave a comment and I will pick 3 winners next Friday! Good luck! Now let’s learn how to make these!

Supplies:

If you are doing this project with small kids you will probably need to open and close the jump-rings as it take a lot of coordination but they can help by die cutting plastic shapes and coloring them with permanent markers. It is a great family project! Don’t forget to leave a comment for a chance to win a bracelet kit! Thanks for stopping by and til next time happy crafting!

Winners and a quick background!

Hi friends! The van is cleaned up and packed for the Heirloom Stamp Show (good thing I end up driving because it motivates me to do a yearly vacuum LOL!) Before I go I wanted to congratulate the winner of the Steampunk Stamps…..Ginny! Since I realize there might be more than 1 Ginny (and I don’t have a last name) I have emailed you so check your inbox if you are a Ginny LOL! Also, the first 10 people who commented to win tickets during my flash giveaway have been emailed printable tickets so if you were in the top 10 and did not receive your ticket check your spam folder. It would be sent to whatever email address you use to comment on my blog. Make sure you stay tuned here all summer because I have a lot more giveaways coming up!

Today I filmed a few tutorials so I wouldn’t leave you in the lurch while I was gone and I couldn’t bear to toss the pretty Dr. PH Martin Radiance watercolors leftover in my palette so I made a background:

13323310_10206453527122401_7021408726201614966_o

It is a great way to use up that paint and get ready for another piece of art. The video is pretty raw but the technique is fun at least!

Here is what it looks like dry:

plasticwrapblog

I plan on using pastels or watercolor crayons over this, what do you think? I hope to see some of you at the Heirloom stamp show this weekend (still a couple spots open in my second class!) and I am hoping to film a bit at the show, we will see as it is a mini vacation for me, I might not feel like working LOL! Can you call it work if it is this much fun? Thanks for stopping by and til next time happy crafting!
