Hey friends! Just a quick tip for you tonight! Have you noticed when trends come into fashion they affect everything around us even our product packaging?
Why not die cut cute embellishments from pretty foiled packages like I did from the pink/gold foil box my make-up came in. Watch the video to see how!
You can find beautiful foiled cardboard on everything from tea, skin cream and other consumer goods, heck, I even consider the pretty packaging when I am shopping and I am a bit embarrassed to admit I have bough things because the packaging was cute. If we think about how we can use the packaging as well as the stuff we are buying there will be less trash in the landfill and more treasure for us to craft with! Happy crafting!

Great idea Lindsay!!! I cut strips from my old Christmas Cards to use for FAUX QUILTING cards….really pretty and everyone loves the outcome…sometimes I use the card as is with a die cut sentiment, but most times I die cut the faux quilted card – a deer, cat, etc. and use it to embellish a new card. Have won recycle category at the State Fair and County Fair with this idea. Will be keeping my eyes open when shopping!!! Thanks Lindsay.

Chocolate candy bags are good too. Like the foil from the Lindt truffle bags. Pretty colors too.

I even have a couple of Lindt bags in my house right now. Great idea.
The only problem is that now I have to go out and purchase some embossing dies.
I also need to get one of those pH testing pens. I’ve added memorabilia to my scrapbooks without thinking about the future. I never knew they existed.

Great idea. I do a lot of recycling too. I don’t have much foil packages though because I don’t buy candy or make-up or much packaged grocery items – I’m a cook from scratch kind-a person and a vegetarian – but I definitely recycle the glitter strips from cards and any other bits I can use. I like to take flat stickers and cover them with Glossy Accents and they look like totally different.

I’m a cardboard alcoholic..if I think I can used it…I grab it…for Christmas I keep a silver foil cardboard box…don’t know what Im going to do with it…but I have it… I love this idea…but I don’t have any of those dies…wish I did …thanks for sharing….

I too buy things because of great packaging; it always sucks me in. I use metallic poster board. It die cuts beautifully.

Hi Lindsay. Sounds like you have a cold. Hope it’s not making you feel bad. Well, to answer your questions, I did like this video. It reminds me of yet another type of substrate to hunt for in the bin and the mail. I look for papers and cardstock I can use in my mixed media, and I also save our empty Kleenex boxes. I cut an X in the top, across the opening, (caddy corner), that makes flaps, then I staple them down to the inside of the box. Voila, I have a container. I am always needing one to temporarily hold or store supplies, card components, even spray ink bottles when you have to go somewhere else to spray. I’ve even covered a few of them with paper and they look pretty nice, but most of them already have a pleasant pattern on them. xoxo

Fabulous tip Lindsay. Will def watch out for this type of packaging. Will not mention to hubby tho ‘cos he thinks I ‘save’ enough stuff. My stash is forever growing lol! x

I’m ALWAYS saving pretty packaging for my crafting. Even stuff like the seals that peel off of jars of food in my kitchen if it is sturdy enough to use (and of course it should go without saying it has to be clean! LOL!). It is often either shiny silver or brushed silver and can be die cut and/or embossed. I’ve trained my husband so well to be on the lookout for stuff like this, he doesn’t throw anything out without asking me if he’s not sure about it. LOL!
