Let’s Paint a Goldfinch in Acrylic!

Hi friends! Tonight we are going to paint this cute little goldfinch!

This is a beginner level tutorial so don’t be shy, give it a try!

Supplies available at our sponsor Jerry’s Artarama:

Feel free to substitute the surfaces and acrylic paints you have on hand. You can even try this with tempera paint. I have had many younger viewers asking if you can use poster or tempera paint in place of acrylics and YES you can. It is an economical and washable choice for kids. It might not be as opaque as acrylic but is it better to paint with what you have than not to paint at all!

Speaking of painting, I am taking part in a year long art class called Wanderlust with 26 other fabulous instructors! There will be a new class every week for 50 weeks! It is on sale until December 15th for about $100 for 50 classes! That is $2 a class, sweet!

My class will be on India ink next summer. I can’t wait to see what the other teachers have in store! The teachers will all be sharing projects with different mixed media products including in-depth info and techniques so if you have collected a lot of supplies and want to put them to use this is a great opportunity! You can find out more about Wanderlust here.

Thanks for stopping by and til next time happy crafting!

  1. Thanks for this lovely tutorial. Would you please do a follow up one showing a way to mount or mat and frame an acrylic picture. I wonder if you put it under glass, spray it with a sealer or leave it be. Thanks for your help. I do look forward to every one of your tutorials. Judy

  2. I LOVE this painting. One of the things that I have absorbed from watching you paint is the ease you have when you work. I have watched all your painting videos for the last few years and have enjoyed each one. I know that athletes do a lot of visualization as part of their training. I feel the same goes for painting and I think you have given me that gift with EVERY project you do. I have a pile of jewelry I’m trying to finish right now for a gallery, and when I do, it will be paint time. I now have the confidence to just let it “rip” and have some fun. THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH. I sooo appreciate all you do to spread art and who cares if you have sponsors. I know it bothers some, but not me. Keep up the great work. And, Happy Halloween. I bet your family will have a blast!

  3. Your bird is so cute!

  4. The Wonderlust class sounds awesome. Would you recommend it for a beginner? You can access the classes forever correct?
