Hi friends! I am feeling like a big doofus tonight because, as you will see in tonight’s video I am seriously clueless as to how to use a Wink of Stella pen. I just got my first real one this week and I loved how sparkly it was but at my rate of consumption I was going to use it up in a week! Apparently after you get it going for the first time you do not need to squeeze it (although I am pretty sure it says push or squeeze on the side of the barrel and I did by golly!) So, if you get one of these don’t squeeze it so much LOL! Many YouTube viewers said their pen lasted over a year and you can add water to it after round one is used up. Also don’t toss it because it is a really nice water brush when you are done too! Tonight I am going to use a very underutilized tool in my studio, embossing folders, with watercolor pens to create a couple colorful cards!

Supplies:
Embossing folders
Watercolor Markers (I used Kuretake/Zigs but you can also use Distress, Spectrum Aqua, Tombows, or even Crayola!)
Watercolor Paper or Bristol Board
Waterbrush
Bender pen
Spray bottle of water
Wink of stella pen in clear
Try this technique with the embossing folders and watercolor markers you have (or pick up some at Hallmark Scrapbook, it helps support my blog) and til next time happy crafting!

Aren’t the Wink of Stella pens AMAZING!!! I have 5 of the clear ones so that I NEVER run out! I am obsessed with them and don’t know what I did before I discovered them!! Can’t access the video but I think it is just my computer being stupid. LOL Have a great evening!

Wow…..your cards are gorgeous!! I use my embossing folders a lot, but haven’t ever tried anything like that. Thanks for a great video, as always.
Also wanted to mention that I have heard that Winsor Newton Iridescent Medium is a good (and economical) refill for the clear Wink of Stella pens. I have it on my wishlist at JoAnn.com waiting for a terrific sale. 🙂

I love your cards..and am a fan of wink of Stella pens. I do own the clear pen but also pink, green and brown. I like these because not only do they make the image sparkle but add just a hint of color to make the whole image pop.

Your tutorials are always easy to understand and fun to watch…love your positive approach to projects. I have to say that I was totally enthralled with the Hallmark website until I got to the shipping costs. It seems that cost would diminish the product savings.

They have free shipping on orders over $100, I am not sure what it is on smaller orders. I save up until I can meet free shipping amounts:)

I wrote to you a few days ago asking for some information regarding the “sameness” of the Prima Marketing watercolor pencils versus Spectrum Noir pencils. I understand they are the same pencil with the same number. My confusion is that the Prima definitely says watercolor and the Spectrum Noir are used with gamsol. Are the Spectrum Noir indeed water color pencils or gamsol only. How does that work? Thanks for your help. Kelley

the colors are the same but the Sprectrums are not watercolor, they are wax, the primas are lovely watercolor penicls. I think it is helpful to know so you can layer:)

The cards are gorgeous. The wink of stella brush marker/pen should be stored upright with the cap and brush upward. I also wipe the brush before I put the cap on as well. I wish you all the best with your classes next weekend and wish I was able to attend.

Thanks for the great tips and videos, I’m a huge fan. I have had a wink of stella pen and it was great, but didn’t last long. Then I discovered Sparkle Mod Podge and love not only the look but the frugality of it. Have you ever tried it? Granted you have to use a brush, but the money savings is well worth it!

Hi Kelly, I replied to another of your comments, it must have been lost in cyberspace:) The colors are the same but Primas are watercolor and Spectrum Noirs are regular wax colored pencils. There are only 48 unique colors in Primas vs 120 in Spectrum Noir as well.
