Happy Saturday friends! I still have a couple requested storage videos to shoot for you guys, hopefully tomorrow, but tonight I will share how I store my pastels, gelatos and blending tools. This video feels really long to me. I filmed it last week on a snow-day (hence I am talking about the snow) but heck, it’s Maine so every day is a potential snow-day! There is a winter storm watch from 1pm tomorrow through 1pm Tuesday so I guess it is still a timely video.
I have mentioned it before, the cool thing about making this storage video series is that I have tweaked my storage a bit so it is better for my workflow. I worked downstairs for a bit this morning and it seemed more streamlined than it was before the storage tweaking. I have some critics that say “You’re a hoarder!” or “This is not organizing, you are just showing piles of stuff!” and I can’t say that I disagree with them but I use my stuff, I have a place for everything, I have duplicates because I teach and work for companies where I have to design with their products and I can afford the items I buy. No one has exactly the same stuff but I think that you can get ideas from seeing how others store their stash. i love seeing art rooms packed to the gills with creative goodies because I can imagine the potential of what those supplies will become in the artists capable hands. My studio is not the prettiest but it is hard-working and I love it! I need to see my stuff to use it and I love to have many options. My sister is the opposite, everything is neat and tidy and she only keeps what she needs (it works out great because I gladly take her leftovers!) everyone is different. It’s OK to have less, it’s OK to have more as long as you bills are paid, you are not getting into debt, and nobody’s going hungry. Enjoy your supply stash no matter what size it is and as always happy crafting!

Hi Lindsay, I’ve been loving all your organisational videos. I’m a self confessed craft hoarder and until my recent reorganisation of my crudy (craft/study room) I regularly had what I’d call a “stash”alanche where all the piles of stuff would collide with each other and end up on the floor. Inspired by your videos and a furniture reshuffle in my home, I spent my free time in January tidying and organising my craft space and even though I’ve still only got a tiny space to work in, I’m loving the fact I know where everything is. Oh Lordy, I get the same crap from people. I have lots of crafts and also teach, so I have duplicates. I hear, you are just bragging by keeping things out. But I am the same way, if I don’t see it, I won’t use it. I use all of my things. I don’t just have one hobby either. So it all is out. Depends on what mood I am in. I also have lots of paper, because I hate running to the store for a piece of paper that may match. I like to try many possibilities before I glue it down. Besides, I live in a very small town and running to get a piece of paper is a two hour drive round trip. I like bargains. If I see a bargain I buy a lot. But I also use it. I take really good care of my things, so they always last forever. Then there is always something new and better to try. I remember embossing over a light bulb. I have been crafting for years. So yep, I have a lot of stuff. But it all gets used. Usually I do not make just one of anything either. I use too, but then all my friends wanted one also to use as a sample, then I would have to go back and make more. Now I just make a lot all at once, it is so much faster. When I have a few minutes I can just run into my room and get going, I don’t have to stop and look and get everything out. Such a waste of time. If I get interrupted, I just leave it and get back to it when I can. Some may say it is messy, but not in my eyes, it is a work in progress. No one is starving in my house either. I don’t drink. My husband does not mind, he said it is better then being in a bar drinking every night. At least I have something really nice to show for it. Some people should think about all the money they wasted on the liquor they have consumed, I could have bought a lot of crafts in one night of one persons partying. If a drink is $7.00 and you drink 4 drinks that’s $28.00 plus tips. I can buy a set of markers for that and they will last for years. So maybe it should be called an investment. Craft on girl. I have your back, and I am sure there are thousands of people just like us out there. I think most people are just jealous. I use the example drinking because the worse offender to me is a wine drinker. Her and her husband can consume 2 bottles of expensive wine every single night and brag about how good it was and how it relaxes them. Different strokes. Our stroke is better. We are an inspiration to others, where as drinking 2 bottles of wine in no inspiration to no one. They can brag all they want about their wine, but I don’t think it inspires anyone or makes anyone else feel good.

You are so right! Ever thought about how much some people spend on cigarettes? Being creative is SO relaxing and will surely keep us from getting Alzheimer too ……..

Also include smoking. I have a friend who has no hobbies but she smokes. She spends more than I do easily in a week. Maybe she should get a hobby.

I just retired, from the corporate world and finding your blog, was just what I needed! Please never change anything – you’re perfect….

Rock on, Lindsay!!! Great ideas, as usual. I vote for getting the trays/containers that will fit in your space. If they don’t fit in, then you have to find a place to put them. That place will likely be out of sight, and that is out of mind! I love the way you use what works, no matter what it is! Thanks bunches!!

Well Lindsey, I am a 70 yr old great-granny that is called a ‘hoarder’ by my loved ones (lovingly) and like all the above comments, SO WHAT!!! I agree with all about your many and varied talents, it’s why you are adored by us all. Being a good wife and mother requires so many talents and being thrifty is very important. It’s those talents you are blessed with that will keep you and all of us CRAFTERS sane in our waning years!!HAHAHA!(or is it LOL??) All your videos are wonderful and your personality makes it a joy to listen and learn from them. I feel those that do not have a craft or hobby of some sort have very empty lives. With all the stresses in life, we all need an outlet. As for your organization, ‘you ROCK’! And, it is the only way to do all the things you do (so well, I might add) and not have to be searching for something you need. We should all be as organized. Enough said…..except never stop your videos, I look forward to yours everyday and it is why I log on this contraption!! Because of you I have started to do watercolor!!! Love your video’s, and getting all kinds of great ideas. Of course i have been on somewhat of a buying spree but now that it is over, and my Abyss is getting back in order I can start creating. I love the stamp set, and am Aries the Ram (have always loved rams). I fall asleep watching your video’s at night and wake up to them in the morning and when I am awake off and on through the night I watch as well. Even my husband will now say “What is Lindsey up to today”. Watercolors never touched them before but have some now. Glycerine, never knew you could buy it as a liquid. Time to get crafty!!!

I say go for the container that fits in your organizing scheme – if you can afford it, do it! 🙂 I find people who criticize usually have too much time on their hands and fill it with finding fault in others. I say to them — “get a hobby” or “do something productive”. I saw a quote once that said something to the effect of “Selfishness is not doing what you want, it’s wanting someone else to do what you want!” Criticizers are selfish! 😛

Lindsay, we need more role models like you in the world. People who, like you, are upbeat, positive, generous, giving (not petty), and absolutely real. Notice I didn’t say you were perfect; you are human, warm and loving which is much better than perfect. Naysayers have a need to build themselves up by putting others down. Let’s all say a prayer for them in their weakness. They are people too.
