How to Store it: Ribbon and Lace!

I have a tutorial on how I made the ribbon shelf here. It is very cheap and easy to make. Let us know if you have any great ribbon storage ideas in the comments below, your ideas can help fellow crafters too! Thanks for stopping by and til next time happy crafting!

  1. I keep my ribbon in plastic shoe boxes by color and then stack them on top of each other. If the spool is too big to fit into the box, I wrap it around my hand and slide the bundle of ribbon into a snack bag. I’ve been tempted to do that with all the spools of ribbon because it uses so much less space, but would rather spend the time making cards. LOL The wider ribbon or those rolls that I’ve purchased at Sam’s Club with yds. and yds on the spool, I just leave those on the spool and store in a cardboard box. Oh, even though the shoe boxes are almost clear plastic, I put a tag on the top and end of the box, so not matter which way I store the shoe boxes, I’ll know at a glance what color/colors (orange/yellow) are in the box. This works well for me. I already had a lot of ribbon and then my mother gave me all of hers.

  5. I have my ribbon stored in rain gutters that have been cut down to fit on the back of the door. These work well but I also love your ribbon cupboard – great idea!

  6. I inherited more ribbon, lace, fabric and thread than I could every use. In order to see what I have I started out with foam core then switched to Capri Sun Boxes (cheaper) and cut them to fit into a letter size hanging file. I then sorted the colors of ribbons, removed it from the spools and wrapped the ribbon around the boards. I have 2 boards per file. All I have to do now is open my file cabinet and I can see all the ribbon at once. The file cabinet also protects it from dust and sunlight!

  8. Great stuff!
Could you do a video sometime on the different crop a diles and big bites? I have gone to buy one so many times with 40 or 50% off coupon in hand, only to come home empty handed because I am overwhelmed and just don’t know enough about them to make a good decision.
    Thanks a bunch!!
Love your videos, keep them coming as you have inspired me in too many ways to count!! ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. I’ve just spent all evening reading your blog (and last night I watched tons of your videos) and had to just comment. Love the making money with arts & crafts-series! So many useful ideas. I’m also insanely jealous of your supply stash. But anyhoo, you are very inspiring and keep up the good work!
    Best wishes from Finland.

  10. I loved your video on ribbon storage and how to build the foam core holder. Will the SVG file on cutting holder for the odds and ends of ribbon work on the Cricut Expression? Also could not load the PDF file on the holders. Please help.

  11. I make 2 inch X 3 inch ribbon cards from cereal boxes. I notch each of the 2 inch sides using a square punch. Then I wrap the ribbon around the card and secure it with a rubber band. I place the ribbon cards in photo boxes for storage. I label the boxes and organize the ribbon by color. I have been able to store ALOT of ribbon using this method.

  12. I keep my ribbons and twines in small plastic containers I bought at kinda dollar store years ago. Those has lids, and separate by colors, and since I have too many of ribbons, I do the same for twines/cords. By the way, I luv your earrings! That’s what I noticed today at first! ๐Ÿ™‚

  13. Lindsay…just a quick comment. When I am in full costume sewing mode, I store my ribbons on a small accordion drying rack. The one I have was old, and the dowels came right out, so I could slide the spools of ribbon on, then push the dowel back into its hole. I use satin ribbon for seam binding trimming and all sorts of other things. This keeps ribbons handy so that I can cut off just what I need.
Thank you for all of your creative ideas!
