Hi Friends! I love all of the pretty paper straws that I have seen in store, on party blogs and on Pinterest but dang, they are pricey! Today I will show you how to make them and yes they really work. I left one in a glass of water overnight and it was still fine the next day. Here is a bucket of straws I made:

If you are just making these straws to use on craft projects or scrapbook pages you can skip the wax. If your wax is hot (like right out of the crock pot or just removed from the stove) you do not need to wipe off the excess, it will drip off. If you get a drip of wax at the end of the straw you can snip off the end of the straw with scissors and it will be fine. Just think of the custom straws you will have at your next party! too cute fun fun..have a stamp cleaning tip for you … take un-du that removes stickers …place in a tray place several paper towels put un-du it will remove every stain on stamp..ONLY USE ON WOOD BLOCK NOT CLEAR DON’T LET IT GET ON WHERE WOOD &STAMP ARE..

You are so clever. I follow lots of blogs to find stuff I can do for and with my Grandkids, (8 under 8 and one thats12). You seem to have the best mix of practical and artistic and inexpensive. Yes. In “Olden Days” it was melted on top of jelly and jam to seal in the contents without having to use lids.It is also used in making candy.

Love those cute straws. Can I just microwave the canning wax in a glass jar (Mason) and dip them in?

no, do not microwave the wax, it can get to hot and catch on fire as it has a low flash point. You need to slowly melt it in a crock pot or in a can within a pan of boiling water. Never microwave regular wax.

I hesitate every time I go to buy some of these. As you say. Expensive. So now this solves the problem and it is going to be fun to use my left overs from making beads.

Lindsay! This is sooooo cool. I have made paper straws before, but it never occurred to me to wax them. This is going to be a project I can use with visiting nieces and nephews. Made in sets, what an ideal gift for teachers, neighbors, and shut-ins who may need a cheer-me-up. Clever! “:O)

that might have additives that you don’t want in food, I’d stick to pure canning wax or beeswax
