I was going through my school supply stash today and saw some boxes of Crayola markers that I bought at Target for $1 a few years ago at back-to-school time. I wondered if I could use them for stamping. Turns out I can and they work great, have a look at them in action in today’s video:
I saw the marker packs on sale for $1 this year too. You might want to splurge on a bigger set now that you know they work but I love the vibrant colors in the classic and assorted sets plus you can mix the colors on a tile or on the rubber stamp itself. It is easy to tone down a bright color but you cannot brighten up a dull one. What do you think? Have I gone too cheap with this tutorial? Just think, with all the money you saved on markers you can buy more stamps! The stamps I used are from Art Neko (formally About Art Accents) and the bamboo and peony are among my faves. Regarding glitter, I just wanted to let you know that the Dollarama Store sells Glitter Caddy, which holds six colours, and has two types of holes in the top of the cover: one hole, the width of a pencil and the second hole looks like the top of a salt shaker.

Love your ideas. I was in Office Depot one day and saw a lady and her daughter digging through a container and it was short Crayola markers for 13 cents each. So when they finished I picked one of each color not knowing what I was going to do with them but now I know. Very pretty. Have a good rest of the day.

I love your videos so much Lindsay. One a day would be about right for me! The wonderful kids stuff you find that is as good as big name stuff is awesome. Do ya think maybe it all comes out of the same box so to speak and just gets labeled differently? Would be awful expensive to do the packaging etc for a new product.I hope you can understand what I am trying to say here. Echhh. I confuse myself sometimes. I just ordered the 36 set of Reeves watercolor pencils. What a deal. I am going to have a gazillion pencils. LOL… Can’t help myself. Love you Lindsay. Your friend in Florida.

Some products are just rebranded and repackaged (and re priced!) For instance the Art Grip pencils from Faber castell are made for kids with bright colors and for crafters at a higher price with chic colors. It happens quite a bit between kids supplies and crafter supplies. When it is marketed for artists there are standards for artist quality supplies including lightfast and toxicity information, pigment content and sources etc. That is why artist quality is more expensive but often crafter and kids quality are the same.

Nice video Lindsay! I found a leaf watercolor tutorial that you did and I am having a ton of fun with it! You made it last October. Loving all your watercolor videos! Fun, Fun, Fun! More supplies that add pizzazz at a great price. Only the FrugalCrafter has the creativity that makes everything jump off the page. Does that really rub off on us, or are we just living in a day dream? Naa! Lindsay wouldn’t do that to her loyal fans. . . our success just adds more fans from our SOI. . . who will also find boldness to go beyond the pot of paint. Lindsay I use these markers to make my own custom rainbow pads and spritz them with water to refresh until they need more marker ink. Candice (Artneko)

OMG this is crazy. Just this morning I found my grandkids Crayola markers and tried them out. They were great. We must be on the same wave link. This is weird.

Beautiful stamp images and they turned out wonderful using the Crayola markers. I bought some when I started stamping and have found they work well on rubber stamps. Haven’t had much success using them on clear stamps though. Love the water color technique with these markers. Great tip and no you have not gone too cheap.

Love it as always, I have some old ones too, gotta try. Have a question, you showed the glossy paper, where do u find glossy paper? I have looked at joanns hobby lobby and more, I need for another card I want to make…I even tried the photo paper, but didn’t work? Thanks for all u do!

that sample was on photo paper actually:) But I get my glossy paper at my local print shop for 25 cents a sheet, the paper is Kromecoat. Stampin up used to sell it too:) Judikins also has it

not a camera shop a copy/print shop, staples might even have some behind the counter, ask them to sell you a few sheets:)

Great video as always!! Thank you for the cool idea, back in June my cousin got me a case of all different Crayola stuff for only $5. She knew I love to color, and I would be able to use the pencils and crayons but to be honest am not very good in coloring with markers so this is a great way for me to use the markers! Don’t you just love cheap art supplies? I’ve been eyeing the set of 50 super tips Crayola markers for quite some time now. I thought a pack of those and a blender pen, and boy would I be in business. I’ve just been too cheap to shell out the all of 7 bucks for them! Lol
