Don’t be a chicken, enter to win this stamp!

Hello friends! I do love a good pun! And a good giveaway! Today I am giving away this beautiful stamp from Art Neko. It is the state bird and flower of Rhode Island (OK it should be a Rhode Island Red but I thought it would show up better as a lighter bird, my apologies Rhode Island) and the stamp is on sale for $4.50. I have the complete set of 50 state Birds and Flowers and they are all wonderful, especially if you like to color. It includes 54 ATC sized images that are super detailed and crisp on deeply etched red rubber. It is such a lovely set for anyone who likes nature. In all honesty it is my favorite stamp set.

DCF 1.0

I colored my chicken with my new Spectrum Noir colored pencils. I got to try the Spectrum Noir blending solution too. It is Gamsol (it says so right on the label and it is made by Gamblin for Grafter’s Companion.) I have never used Gamsol thinking it would be just like odorless mineral spirits and it does work just like OMS but there is no smell at all! I could not believe it! That said, keep it away from kids and pets because it looks and smells like water. Usually I prefer to blend with baby oil but you cannot add more pencil over it but with the Spectrum Noir Blending Solution you can continue to layer colors after blending. I used a very smooth cardstock so if you want deeper colors you can use a rougher paper. Watch the tutorial for the coloring demo. If you like to listen to me jibber-jabber while I color for 19 minutes than this video is for you…don’t say I didn’t warn you LOL! Oh, I will show you how to make the card and the distress ink gelato background too so there’s that. Really, sorry about the long coloring video…and the mess at 13 minutes…that said, if you still want to watch the video here you go!

If you want to win the stamp I used and a $10 gift certificate to Art Neko leave a comment below and I will pick a winner next week! Good luck and happy crafting!

  1. Cool! I have wondered about the Gamsol. I’ve used the “odorless” mineral spirits, but the Odor was still too strong for me. Thanks for trying it out and letting us know! And, yeah, enter me in the drawing!

  4. Hi Lindsay from a wet and cold south west UK. Ooh, I would LOVE to win this stamp. I think you showed us the complete set in one of your earlier videos and I thought then how lovely they are and was saddened that we don’t have any equivalent over here for our different counties. I live in the county town for Cornwall, which would be a bit like your state capital and would love to have a set of ‘county’ stamps. Still, perhaps I’ll win this one and gloat. xx

  5. Rhode Island Reds are my favorite chicken. 2 of our Reds have recently passed away of old “hen” age. If I win I could use the rubber stamp and stamp and paint the inside wall of the coup so the other chicks won’t miss their friends.

We purposely choose state destinations for a specific reason, like to see lighthouses or visit particular sites. This year, it was Rhode Island, to see several lighthouses. It was beautiful!!!! Last year, it was New York, next year, we’re thinking of CO.

  34. LOVE your blog and all of your tutorials! I tend to be a perfectionist and get too much into details on most everything. I do other crafts and never did painting because I thought it would be frustrating for me because of the perfectionism and not being able to get it just right exactly how it looks like a photograph; however, you break it down so simply and always include comments such as “do what you like because it’s YOUR painting,” or “it’s just a card” or “just give an impression of it because the eye fills in the rest.” and I can’t tell you how helpful that is. Other painting instructions seem so rigid and make it seem like there is no other way or other options, etc. I appreciate the freedom you give. Thank you!

FYI—my local Walmart is selling Neenah card stock. They didn’t have the white but had some others, including metallic and vellum and it was less than $5 a package. You might check yours to see if they have it if you like Neenah.

  93. What a lovely video! My sister and her family just adopted their 5th bird (2 have gone to the great beyond) and the kids love them. My parents have 2 birds. And me, as soon as I know that a bird is leaving its cage, I run for the hills, screaming like a banshee. Maybe it’s because of watching that Hitchcock movie way back when. Maybe it’s because a little bird flew into me as I was walking down Fifth Avenue in NYC (what could it possibly have been thinking?). I don’t know. But I think I need to get with the program, especially with my family. Hence, I would love to start by winning the stamp that is being generously offered…and then perhaps, if I am able to adapt, I too will come to love birds and be able stay put and not flee like a crazy woman. Even better, maybe I’ll get the whole set of stamps and consider myself cured.

  127. I love this tutorial, Lindsay! I have always thought chickens and roosters were the cutest things. My kitchen was done in a fruits and veggies theme years ago, and slowly but surely I have been changing it to more of a farm theme. I have roosters, pigs and cows sitting on cabinets and shelves. The stamp you used would make a perfect little picture for my shelf by my sink!

I ended up purchasing the entire set of Spectrum Noir. Did not get at the price you did but got a pretty good deal myself. The five sets of pencils, blending solution, file, sharpener, and 6 blending sticks for 123.00 and I love the pencils.
