Ask a Crafter 35! Chicken bathing and color theory LOL!

Howdy friends! Another week, another Ask a  Crafter! Lorraine is in the craft room with me today and I have to give her credit, she did not zone out when I mentioned the words “color theory”, then again after today’s episode I am the last person to scold someone about staying on track. Without further ado, here is this weeks AAC:

I just wanted to reiterate that if you asked a question last week and it was not answered please look for a reply to your comment either on the YouTube watch page or the blog post, whereever you left it. I do answer all of the questions, just not all on the show. If you have a question for next weeks show, such as “how do you give a chicken a bath?” just leave it in the comments! Thanks so much for watching and til next time happy crafting!

  1. May I suggest you feed your chicken black berry leaves and it’s little behind will not be so dirty and you won’t have to give that chicken bath’s.

  4. This is a response to the person who wants to make videos and isn’t sure what topics she should choose. One thing you should consider is what your goals are. Are you trying to sell your work? Are you trying to sell in-person classes? Are you doing it for fun and your main goal is to chat with other crafters? What your goal is will help you determine who your audience is (potential customers, potential students who live in your area, other crafters from anywhere in the world) as well as guide you on what they want to hear about. I hope that helps.

  5. For the person learning to knit. I highly recommend checking out VeryPink.com Stacy has amazing video tutorials that are professionally done and has helped my knitting so much. Her site is a wealth of knitting info. Here’s the link for the traditional diagonal dishcloth with an addendum for a less traditional rectangular one.

  7. I sooo love that I found you on the net. I have been wanting to get back into watercoloring and you are my teacher now..I live in Utah, right next to the Uinta mountains…How would I paint the mountains in stormy weather, as you always do the sky first. And here the clouds ‘sit’ on top and actually roll down the mountain into the cravases?

  9. Storage question?
You gave such good advice on how to store ink pads by type on ink. So can you tell me tips on how to store adhesive by type of product in order to use with ease. Especially the new fine glue pens.

  10. Hi Lindsay, I love your videos and really have learned so much from you. Thank you so very much. One question: I have seen people spray color onto their art journal pages and want to ask if this is watered down watercolor, acrylic and/or inks they use? Is there a place to get really cheap spray bottles for this technique? Thanks so much! Keep up the great work that you share.

  11. I understand that alcohol ink is for non-porous surfaces. I’m not able to get it to stick to aluminum tape. I made a mermaid out of aluminum tape and would like to paint the tail with a translucent or opaque ink, paint or whatever. Any suggestions? Thanks for all you do.

I remember watching you use hand sanitizer to make a something but now I can’t find it and I am not sure if it was even you! I purchased hand sanitizer, but don’t know what to do with it now! Do you have any hints for special effects using hand sanitizer?
Your tutorials are awesome! You have made me a very happy crafter with so many new things to try! Thanks for all your wonderful advise!

  14. Hi LIndsay and Lorraine, great video and I enjoy you both so much that time just flies by. Question I posted from your last AAC (34), and I decided to also post it here as I reviewed it and didn’t see a response. When you make cards to sell, do you put an insert inside for people to write on? In other words, an additional piece of card stock stuck to the writing side? Also, for selling watercolors, do you matt them and put the painting and the matt inside the plastic cover for sale, or do you just sell the painting for $25, or so. Thanks so much I truly enjoy all you do.

  15. Hi – annoying repeat questioner here. I like to draw faces. Can you incorporate watercolors into a face in your journal so you can mix it up with markers, pencils or whatever? Can you explain or demonstrate the difference between Prang & Peerless watercolors along with the liquid ones? What each type of paint is best used for and what is best for a watercolor newbie. Also I have a can of fixative … I know this is going to sound realllly dumb but can I use it in place of Aquanet before Mod Podging a journal page? Love your videos! They are motivating! Five weeks and I have five art journal pages. I’m definitely making time for art, thanks!

  16. Hi! I love your You Tube channel and your video on making sprays and daubers. I am confused tho. I ordered some liquid watercolor. Yay! And I was going to make alcohol and markers sprays too. But is there any difference? And why do people use alcohol in ink sprays? Have I doubled up on supplies? Easily confused with all the variety of supplies! Cheers, Cherie from New Zealand. 🙂

  17. Ps just wanted to make my question clearer!;) Is there any difference in effect between watercolor based sprays vs ink/dye based sprays? And why do ink/dye sprays have alcohol in them? Cheers, Cherie from NZ.
