Wanna win some fishy stamps? It’s giveaway time!!!

Hello friends! What an awesome night, we just got back from watching the Penobscot Theater’s presentation of Narnia, it was a delight and the play was done entirely by children, well done kids! My kids loved the performance and it is inspiring to see other children work hard and accomplish things I think, a better accomplishment that beating a high score on a video game anyway. 😀  So now I have another fun thing to do tonight, give away some rubber stamps, yay! Check out the beautiful stamps from About Art Accents I used on these cards and envelopes:

DCF 1.0

All you have to do is leave  a comment on this blog post for your chance to win. I’ll pick a random winner next Friday. If you don’t want to wait you can buy them here, be sure to use my coupon code (Lindsay10%) to save 10% on your regular priced purchase. I have to confess, I’ve had these stamps on my desk for about 2 months. I really loved them but I wanted to do them justice. “Enough!” I said this week, I’m just gonna play with them, and so I did! Watch the video to see how I made the stamped panels for these cards. We are going to have fun with glossy cardstock.

I had a viewer ask if photo paper can be used in place of glossy card, well sometimes it can, I always say give it a try and see but for the techniques I showed you tonight you need glossy cardstock like Kromecoat because it had a plastic coating that repels the ink a bit rather than glossy photo paper that promoted quick drying. Don’t despair if you don’t have glossy card, be resourceful, look through the magazines and junk mail in your recycle bin. Find ads and glossy pages that are mostly white and experiment! You would not believe the amount of “art supplies” we routinely toss away! Another tip, if you have a copy shop or printer nearby you can purchase Kromecoat for about 25 cents a sheet. Don’t let lack of money stop you from creating, it just means you need to be more creative! Here is a close up of the cards:

DCF 1.0

I used a Ranger resist pad of the jellyfish, you might be able to use your embossing ink-pad for this too as long as you don’t get too much ink on the stamp, embossing pads are spongy while the resist pad is firmer. Either way make sure you dry the paper well before inking. The pattern paper I used on both cards are from the Taj-Mahal mat stack from DCWV, I like the mat-stacks because I don’t waste any paper, they are perfect for layering on a 5″x7″ card.

DCF 1.0

I hope you found my creative play today inspiring. I hope you try these techniques and I really hope you leave a comment to win these fab stamps from About Art Accents! Have a great night and til next time happy crafting!

  5. There aren’t many tutorials out there where you can learn amazing techniques AND listen to them sing a tune now and again. You’re so fun to watch, and that’s just one of the reasons why I like you so much Lindsay. I really like the junk boat stamp (I think that’s what you called it), and how you made the inks look like waves.

  6. Hi Lindsay, great video as always. I love your more “random” videos because they let us get a glimpse into your creative process!! Anyhow, awesome stamps. I love the jelly fish. I think it would be a great one to do the “underwater-with-hairgel” technique with too!! Have a great weekend. Thanks so much for sharing your videos with us. Allison:)
P.S. The only tinking I heard was when you were thumping with the blender block, almost like a loose piece…not major, only picked up on it cuz you mentioned the tink sound!!

  7. Both of these cards are beautiful. I like each for very different reasons. I love your videos for the training I get in techniques. I am not a crafty/artsy person and in my senior years am trying to tap that part of me… (It’s not going so well, either.)

  14. Very pretty .I know what you mean about the snow sliding off the roof, several years ago we got hughesnet and the man that installed it put it under the metal roof over hang and said it didn’t need the bracing it was strong enough without it. I think he was to lazy to do it right. He hadn’t been gone 15 minutes when a big sheet of ice slid off the roof and knocked it out of position. So my husband had to fix it when he got home. Looked up Junk Boat is a Chinese sailing vessel. You have a good weekend. Love to see you play with different techniques.

  15. I love the jelly fish stamp! I think I have learned more art techniques from you than any of the art professors I had in college. My Mom is the “painter” in the family; I tend to be the “crafter.” Because of you, though, I am learning that there is a definite intersection between the two. You make it all seem possible. Thanks for your wonderful videos.

  17. I already replied on your YouTube page, but I’m happy to post again that I love seeing ideas for how to use alcohol inks. I have several nice colors but didn’t have any good ideas for using them. I will have to dig out my glossy card stock and give it a try.
I’d also like to be in the drawing for the free stamps. I’m in north central Kansas and have never seen a real jellyfish in my life. The stamp is as close as I will ever get. LOL

  18. Great colors. I never knew about those ink pads like that. I’ll have to be on the look out for them. I always wondered if the ink wouldn’t eventually get contaminated, from all the other colors, and be ruined.

  23. I like the jellyfish stamp, but it reminds me of a octopus.
I think the boat will have the mot potential with backgrounds and coloring it, maybe a watercolor or a maker sunset in the back and a soft resist off to the side. ? Wonder how it would look.

I amazes all the time about what I can actually use and looks amazing.

  45. Hi my Love Lindsay, great techniques and awesome stamps.
Here’s a little history lesson for you about the Junk: The Chinese word is chuán (船, “boat; ship”). It entered the English language in the 17th century through the Portuguese junco from the Javanese djong. Lesson over…lol tfs Thanks for the opportunity to win these awesome stamps. 54. The jellyfish is fab. I saw that Taj Mahal Mat Stack at Michaels ONCE and never saw it again — I wish I had gotten it when I had the chance. A “junk” is a traditional Chinese boat — they have asymmetrical sails with a fanlike ray of rods or booms that hold them out. The word (Anglicized) probably just means “boat” or “ship” in Mandarin or Cantonese.
