Watercolor Hydrangea Two Ways!

Hello friends! I have been having so much fun with water-media lately. I was stumped by what to paint the other day so I looked at my request list and painted a hydrangea. I did it both with watercolor paints and pencils and surprisingly I preferred the soft look of the pencils for this so I’ll show you that video first:

Actually I was not going to post the watercolor paint video. I was cut off at the end right before I said “bye” and the video was really bright because I had the “perfect auto levels” button pushed…perfect my foot LOL! It is kinda bright but I offered to post it if anyone was interested, don’t say I didn’t warn you 😛

Well, it looks like we are in for a whopper of a storm this week, please be careful if you are in the east especially if your area is not used to snow, I plan to make a trip to town tomorrow for necessities like the “store bought” valentines my daughters want to hand out (where did I go wrong?) and valentine party snacks in the event that school is not cancelled Friday and I need to think of a valentines gift for hubby. Any ideas? I was thinking of buying him some more stuff for his shop but clamps and wood glue are not that romantic. Oh well, i’m sure I’ll think of something:) Thanks for stopping by and til next time happy crafting!

  1. My favorite flower! I think that the watercolor pencils look less intimidating. I especially love how iridescent the jar looks. You did such a beautiful job. Is that how you would go about drawing bubbles?

  2. I usually bake my husband an apple pie for valentine’s day. Pie ala mode for supper hits the spot.With 8″ of snow predicted for South Carolina, we’ll be home bound anyway. 🙂

  5. I think most men like what ever you get them when it pertains to their hobbies. Now this is comming from a woman that her husband got her a tiller for her birthday one year because the yard needed tilled up and fixed after our house was built. Then a few years later he ran over it with a bulldozer he said he didn’t see it. I wasn’t going to use it anyway. The hydrangeas are very pretty. I like the pencil one also. Hope your weather doesn’t get bad. I am ready for spring we have had enough cold. Good luck on your valentine gift.

  9. I’m inclined to think if it is hard to figure out what your husband wants, then about anything you gift him will make him happy. My husband would be perfectly happy with wood glue and clamps.

    You could have his car detailed although this time of year that is probably a waste of money. You could give him a gift certificate to have it done in the Spring after the thaw.

    Does he have a favorite cake/pie/entree? Give him a coupon that he can present to you at which time you will make it. Be sure to put an expiration date on it and any restrictions to make it easier on yourself.

    These days I usually give gift cards. Better than cash because it is designated and gives permission to not be frugal when spent and to spend it on self.

    Love the hydrangeas–I prefer the pencils too, because they are softer.

  10. Love them both!! Thanks so much for painting my request!! I have a tendency to try to paint all the flowers in the cluster….you have shown me that less is more. (Which we all know, but seem to forget.). With more snow on it’s way, I am going to think spring and paint hydrangeas today!! Again, many thanks…..

  12. A thought for your husband’s valentine… How about patterns for beautiful scroll/fret work it is a challenging form yet perhaps more romantic than clamps and glue. But on the other hand clamps and glue may say you ‘get’ what he loves and support it. Sorry if this posted twice tech difficulties …

    I just wanted to say that you have inspired me to draw more and I am so grateful for that. I’m a pre-med college student and I used to be super stressed all the time; your videos have helped me in more ways than you will ever know. Because of you, I now use art as a form of stress relief. I would have never thought it could be so fun and relaxing! Thanks for your videos! 🙂

  16. It’s my favorite flower Lindsay. I can’t draw or paint them right side up. I watched your video and tried lol. You should see it (not). But if you stand it 50 ft away and then squint, it almost looks like yours.
